I REALLY wanted to love this car...

I really wished these reviews had been on this website before I decided to lease this car. I REALLY REALLY wanted to love this car. I chose the 2016 Tuscon over a certified pre-owned Santa Fe and now I am regretting that decision. I got this car March of this year (2016) and everything seemed great at first. Oddly enough, I never noticed the hesitation when accelerating from a stop when taking the car for a test drive. I read a review on here that said that it was normal for a turbo engine but trust me, NOTHING about this engine is normal or safe. The dealership and Hyundai will also try to tell you over and over that the engine is normal. I receive BlueLink reports every month and EVERY TIME it has told me that the engine needs attention even though I have been getting regular oil changes and service performed. This never happened with the Sonata I leased before this car. Everything other reviewers have said about this car is true. It is extremely unfortunate because I love everything else about this car. I get compliments constantly on the look (I got the Caribbean blue) and the entertainment and safety features are awesome but I just absolutely hate the engine. Almost every time I try to accelerate from a dead stop, the car hesitates for a good 1-5 seconds and this leaves you completely stuck on the road. It feels like I'm being rear-ended whenever I'm in stop and go traffic on the freeway because the car is so jerky. It is also very jerky sometimes when accelerating. It's a nightmare!! Now I'm a person who gets motion sickness but usually I don't get car sick as long as I'm driving but I swear this car makes me feel sick! I was really hoping the software update would fix it but it didn't....I'm afraid it only made it worse because the car feels jerkier than ever. It also feels like the car isn't going to brake sometimes which is extremely scary. I have also had weird computer glitches. One time I turned the car on and the navigation system was stuck on the screensaver and would not work. Just recently, the car warned us that the back right tire had low tire pressure but my husband checked all of the tires and they were fine. I am also disappointed that it doesn't have a CD player....I'm sure most people wouldn't mind since everyone uses an iPod these days but I noticed that the other Hyundai models do and they're the same year. This seemed a little odd to me. It is VERY disappointing that Hyundai refuses to acknowledge this very serious problem (the transmission, not the CD player lol). I considered myself a loyal Hyundai customer before but I think I'm going to have to look somewhere else for my new car. I plan to transfer my lease and get into a new car ASAP. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!!!!!!!!

Dangerous Dual Clutch Transmission

Update: I traded the 2016 Tucson for a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. After multiple transmission software updates, multiple transmission resets, multiple trips to the dealership and overheated transmission warnings, I just couldn't stand it anymore. Every time I turned around, the transmission was overheating, it would get stuck in drive somewhere or it struggled to get up hills. I really liked the design of the Tucson but the Dual Clutch Transmission wasn't ready for primetime. I lost a lot of money trading to the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee but I feel secure and have had ZERO problems since purchase. 10 months ago I drove my selling dealership crazy because I wanted the 2016 Tucson Limited so bad. Now I am scared to death to drive my vehicle and recommend all buyers stay away until Hyundai resolves the problem with the Dual Clutch Transmission. On three separate occasions (after 11,000 miles), I have been stopped at a traffic light and depressed the gas pedal on green. The vehicle would not move. The RPMs ran over 4,000 and the vehicle still would not move. Verified car was in Drive on the cluster/shifter and parking brake was off. I managed to get the vehicle moving after several minutes of throwing the shifter into park and then into drive and then flooring the gas pedal. In all three instances, I was incredibly lucky to not be in an accident or cause an accident. I took it to the dealership and they kept it for 5 days. They could not replicate the problem and the vehicles had no error codes. They made me feel like a fruitcake or something. They reset the transmission control module which my Hyundai Case Manager verified won't fix the problem. I have been unable to get the dealership to give me a loaner so I drive my vehicle not knowing when the problem will repeat. Will I get into an accident this time or get killed? With the complaints building on Edmunds and NHTSA, Hyundai needs to stop selling the Tucson and order all of them off the road. At a minimum, Hyundai needs to admit publicly that there is a problem and that owners should be offered loaners by Dealerships if they so request one. Also, owners should have the option of requesting that Hyundai buy the vehicles back. I don't want to give up my Tucson but I want to live more!

At this point you probably have heard about the dct (daul clutch transmission) issues.... They are real! I've experienced them and its no joke! There are times when you step on the accelerator (gas pedal) and the computer doesnt let out the clutch or slips it way to much and the car may or may not go anywhere! It's only happened 5 times in 4,000 miles but is unacceptable!!! The vehicle has never left me stranded for more than a couple of minutes, but definetly not good experience and could lead to an accident..... That being said, I just had the new update for the dct software done today. It's supposed to fix the problem. The update is labeled TCU UPDATE (16-01-035). released as of 8-11-2016. Only time will tell if this fixes the problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.... Providing this does indeed fix the problem i will go back to saying this is an amazing vehicle in every way!!! The turbo combined with the DCT is simply brilliant! well, its been 2 weeks since my software update!!! this is an add on to the review i did a couple of weeks ago.... Congrats hyundai!!! so far so good. Vehicle is driving perfectly now!!! It really is a shame for the bad rap this car is getting. Trust me, i understand, however i really believe the issue has been resolved! I challenge anyone reading this that owns the vehicle that the problem has been resolved to please post something positive!!! I'm only doing this because i really love my tuscan turbo and would hate for people to miss out on an amazing vehicle. I would like to bet if this software was right from the get go that this car would be receiving rave reviews!!!

Our Tuscon is a Lemon!

Purchased the 2016 Tuscon Limited with all the bells and whistles of a luxurious car. Had a 2013 we traded and loved that car! Daughter has a Hyundai as well. We have never taken a vehicle in except for routine maintenance until this car. There was the delay with the double clutch but there was something more. At 5000 miles, called the dealer for the routine maintenance and told them about this new stalling that had began. Had probably happened 2-3 times at that point. It would act like I was pushing a clutch (that wasn't there) and the accelerator at the same time so the vehicle would start to stop/stall. This wasn't the delay but a complete stall. On March 11, it stalled going across 4 lanes of traffic and I was happy to get to the other side once the transmission started working again. At that point, started feeling like the car was unsafe. Was only a mile from home and the car stalled several times before I could get home. Ended up calling Hyundai Roadside Service and having the car towed because it was not drivable. Was put in a rental car for less than a week and was told it was a recall. Was thrilled to hear this because we really loved the car and was hopeful this was the issue. Never got the car home, which was about 25 miles, before the stalls were worse than before. Took the car back that night and got the rental back. Dealer called March 15 and it was the control actuary assembly for the transmission and the part wouldn't be in for about 12 more days but I had the good ole rental! I asked (after consulting with a professional with credentials as in a crew chief for NASCAR) for a new transmission because it could have caused damage to the other parts of the transmission like the clutches, etc and they never listened to me of course. Got the car back on March 26th and on March 30, called about more issues. the wiper in the back wouldn't turn off when the front were on, then the car started stalling again and this time with a loud noise. Each and every time it happened, I thought I had been hit by another car. I have been completely stopped on the interstate as well as other roads. Called the dealer and here I go in again. Got me another rental and they couldn't duplicate the issue so I had to come and get my unsafe car. On my next commute to work I decided to turn my video on my phone on. The car stalled and you could hear the noise so I have the tape. Took the car in with the audio and they had no idea. 4/18/2016 Was called back to the dealer to put a monitor on my car so I could push a button when this happened and it would record a minute before and a minute after. Within 4 days, I had MULTIPLE recordings. 4/21/2016 On my way to the dealer on the interstate the car stalled and this was yet a different stall. This time I was accelerating and the RPM's was stuck and the car wouldn't go over 50mph unless I floored it all the way. Called the dealer in tears and was given a loaner car that evening for ONE day. The following day with the monitor in hand, received a call from dealer stating it would be the following Tuesday before the engineer from Hyundai would know what was wrong and I needed to come and get my UNSAFE car. I refused and told them I didn't want the UNSAFE vehicle and they could have their loaner. On my lunch break while I was away, they came with my car (I didn't know they were coming)to my job to trade vehicles with me and put me back in the UNSAFE car. Since I wasn't at my office, they had to go back to the dealer and while on their way back, the car stalled and did it's thing twice (5 miles away). They called and said I could now get ANOTHER rental since they had heard and felt what was going on in my car. REALLY HYUNDAI????? TALKING ABOUT ADDING INSULT TO INJURY??????? BTW, at this point the computers have went out twice and been reset as well so been driving with no radio, media, phone, phone chargers, bluetooth, navigation, etc. I had been to the dealer 4 times in one week!!!! Yesterday I got a call from the dealer and got the same call from supposed to be the engineer about their next move and that is to replace the transmission and the complete computer on the dash. It's April 27th, and the parts will be in May 19th. Really????????? My car qualifies as a lemon under the lemon law and I've asked for another car. Who would put their family in this car at this point? I'm scared to get in it and have 2 daughters who drive that I will never allow to drive the car. I have also been hit by another vehicle because the car stalled. Hyundai do you have anything to say for yourself? Help me understand why you would put the safety of my family in jeopardy for weeks knowing there were transmission issues with the vehicle I have purchased from you. UPDATE: Transmission and computer replaced but it's still not always engaging in a gear. It was towed back to the dealer again tonight. I have a case with Hyundai and engineer coming Thursday

Leased the vehicle end of May 2016 - fell in love with the style, comfort, features... On July 25, 2016, took vehicle in for hood latch recall with 1332 miles on the vehicle. While at the dealership service center, they performed a software update. This update created the instrument panel too illegible - the instrument cluster was defected. The part was ordered and it was to take 30 days to be delivered. Fortunately, it took 10 days. Picked up the vehicle on 8/4/16 after work, drove less then 1 mile came to a stop light once it turned green the vehicle would not drive. Being in the center lane of the highway with flashers on, on coming vehicles just missed slamming into the rear. Finally got it back to the dealership, they have indicated it is the dual clutch issue. This is very unsafe vehicle to drive since you would not know when it would just stop shifting and driving. Have registered a complaint with Hyundai Motors as the service department does not know when the vehicle will be repaired. Thank the Lord no one was killed this time! Now I feel this car is unsafe to own. I have a case started with Hyundai Motor Corp. Will see if they stand by their warranties and safety policy!

I purchased the car in August 2015. A/C did not work properly but technician could find nothing wrong with it. After winter had NO a/c. Car was in shop for 11 days; they couldn't fix it so finally installed a new system. So far so good. Carried it in for oil change June 23, 2016. They managed to blow the cluster panel so I'm still driving (7/11/16) a used car not comparable to mine. It has now been in shop for 18 days for this repair and they have no idea when it will be ready. I'm paying a new car payment driving pretty much a wreck. Can't give it a better rating since it has been in repair 30 days so far out of the less than 11 months I've had it. It's bad points outweigh what I thought would be a great reliable selection. I contacted manufacturer and have received no response at all from hqtrs. I'm devastated! Worst auto experience I've ever had!

2016 Tucson DCT

The DCT is an accident waiting to happen. There are reviews about the transmission on NHTSA, Hyundai Forum, and other web sites. It only took one time to happen to my wife that I decided to get rid of this car. As expected, dealer couldn't replicate the problem (because it is a design flaw that needs to be addressed by Hyundai). Decided it was too unsafe to drive off the dealer lot. With only 3700 miles on it, decided to trade it in on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. Had 2 Santa Fe's before with no problem.

I've been leasing this car for about 2 months and the brand new car shut off on me randomly twice! First time it shut off I had to pick my toddler up from daycare that is 40 min away and they told me they will come in about an hour and half to tow my car and they will not give me a loaner or anything g to replace the vehicle while being looked at while my toddlers school closed and they are waiting for me to grab him I kept trying to start the car in a panic and 2 hours later befornethentow trick got to me the car started and I rushed to get him. The next day took the car to get looked at at Paramus Hyundai service center and spent the whole day there with my baby for them to tell me my car is fine and told me I gotta go that they are closing, meanwhile I tell them I do not feel safe driving with my baby in a car that shuts off with no warnings in middle of the road and I want a loaner and this car looked at more to find the problem they said no and that's not their problem. Following week sure enough the car shuts off again at 8pm in middle of the road with my dogs and baby in the car and this time it never went back on, cops stopped the traffic moved the car off road and when I called the sos they told me they cannot tow the car because the service center is closed and they can't get permission to part the car there... So we walked home from that area about a 15-20 min walk at around 10pm I had to drag the baby back with me early morning to tow the car and sit at the crevice center all day with my poor son crying and eventually that place brought me to tears, having me there all day not tellin me anything till the very end of the day giving me a lot of problems about giving me a loaner car and only "pulling some string and giving me a car seeing that I'm stuck there with a fed up toddler. No one helping me no one cared the first time it broke, now I do not feel safe in this car I also want money back from the time I spent without a working car I pay so much money for for for my time lost sitting on the phone and being transferred from person to person to tell me they cannot help me, calling corporate for them to transfer me from person to person for an hour me explains my issues over and over again to different people for them to tell me someone will call me that can help me in 3-5 business days!!! Are they crazy?! I don't want this car I don't want to deal with anyone from Hyundai anymore!!!!!! I'm fed up my family is fed up I have never had so many problems with a car or with customer service as I do with this Hyundai Tucson limited! I'm disgusted with the way I have bk even treated and I cannot believe I'm still in this unsafe car that supposedly was fixed, a car that shuts off like this after 2 months of driving it brand new is not a safe car and is not worth $466 a month!

On July 3 and 15 almost within a 2 week span, I was driving slowly uphill on a slight incline hill for about 1 1/2 miles and through 2 different tunnels. I was caught in 2 traffic jams. A vehicle stalled in the tunnels that caused only one lane to be useable and caused the traffic jams. The traffic was merging from 2/3 lanes to 1 lane, and moving slowly, bumper to bumper. I had the warning messages and sounds that the transmission was overheated and to stop my car. Since it was unsafe to stop in the tunnel, I forced my vehicle move out of the tunnel. I was only allowed to drive very slowly. Even by pressing the accelerator pedal, I could barely get the car to move. I could only stop at a safe location outside of the tunnel. Although there were numerous cars that got stuck in the traffic jams, they did not have problem like me and were able to drive faster once they passed the stalled vehicle and the other lanes opened up. I was lucky for not being stalled in the tunnel that could have caused a hazard condition and a safety problem.

Dangerous!!

The transmission is unreliable. Have about 3600 miles on my new car and I never know when it won't go into gear! Tried to go into reverse this morning and the car would not move when I stepped on the gas...dangerous! Have had it to the dealer twice about the transmission and they have a canned speal that says it performs like other cars of this year and model (in other words, ALL of them are flawed). Internet says they are working on a software update and Nissan dealer (who services it in my area since there is no Hyundai service dept. available) hinted a software fix is coming. Hope it comes soon and before I get hit or ram into another vehicle due to the flaw in the transmission! My advice: don't but a Hyundai Tuscon until they address this issue!!!!

I have always had big V8 trucks. Didn't have to worry about gas mileage because they were always weekend vehicles. I had a company vehicle during the week. I ended up with the 2016 Tucson Sport 1.6T mainly because of Edmunds.com expert review. New position at work required me to have my own commuter vehicle, so I figured compact SUV with great mileage. Granted, I have had this vehicle for a week now and have only put 115 miles on it... so take this review with stride. This is more of my first impression than it is longevity. I will keep reporting my views as I travel through the mileage. First off, it costs less then $35 bucks to fill up. I live in Texas, so gas prices hover around $2.20 - 2.40 at the moment. This is huge to me since I was used to $70 fill ups. I looked at all the comparable vehicles as well. My wife has the Mazda CX-5 Touring. I could have purchased one as well, but honestly, it's boring to me. The Ford escape is a good vehicle but they are super proud of their pricing... and the experience at the local Ford dealerships is lack luster and somewhat insulting. Then there is the Honda CR-V and Toyota Rav-4. Reliable? Sure. Boring, boring, boring. Like having a mini van. I am a 6ft tall, 200lb, 38 year old man who used to think it had to be huge and if it didn't have 350 plus horsepower, don't bother me with it. If your like me and looking for a compact SUV for a job, travel, or for some other reason go and test drive the Tucson Sport 1.6T. Put the vehicle in "sport" mode and punch it. It will surprise you. Points I like so far: - Quick little motor. Got Boost? Yes. Yes it does. - Headroom, headroom, and headroom. - Holy safety features Batman - 19" wheels look nice and set it apart. - Hypnotizing LED lighting. - Transmission shifts are like a magic trick. - Wife likes it. This of course it the final say all and high point. Give this thing a shot, you won't be disappointed.

Compare to more expensive cars

I've had this care for about 1500 miles and generally am very happy with it. I'm excited to get in it in the morning and drive it. I have the top of the line model so I think you have to compare this car to the Lexus NX and Audi Q3. Both are 10K more than the Tucson. This car has all the luxury features that the others have. I now understand the future of driver less cars with all the sensor the Tucson has. It really does make you a safer driver. Although I love driving the car, I do have one concern. The turbo lag from a stand still is very noticeable. Sometime the car just does not respond for a few seconds. I'm learning to compensate so I think it will get better, but that is one benefit of a larger engine. All in all I would definitely recommend this car.

Love This Car, Perplexed By Other Reviews

J Wend, 01/05/2016

I guess each car is different, which is why I made sure I did a nice long test drive on my specific Sport Model Tucson with the Turbo engine. My CUV decision was down to the Mazda CX-5 Touring and the Tucson Sport. I wanted the Sport/Touring models because both have the blind spot lane detection systems as well as the backup camera with rear cross traffic warning (like when you back up in a parking lot and someone is coming perpendicular to you). I had ruled out the Nissan Rogue and Honda CR-V based on rides, options and/or price. The Tucson was hands down the best LOOKING CUV, but I was not going to allow that to be my decider. I took the reviews into consideration, and even discussed them at the dealership. None of the salespeople had heard about the lurching issue, and several suggested premium gas really wasn't needed to assist "turbo lag". Maybe my Tucson had this "firmware" fix some other poster had mentioned. At a stop, I will concede that when I lift the brake, the car will start to move, but it is not a lurch, it is a very slow creep and it is temporary. My old Nissan Murano would creep when I let off the brake. Our 2014 Rogue does the same. Maybe people have different perceptions, I don't know. I have fortunately not seen it. I also have had no issues at all with Turbo lag, but will admit that one model I did test drive (I think it was the Limited, but it was the same turbo engine I have) did have a tiny stutter on a few occasions. Mine --- none at all! I have had the car about 3+ weeks now, and close to 1k miles. I love it, It is a very pleasant ride. Smooth, quiet, crisp. The layout and controls are very nice on the interior, and I love the XM Satellite option. I wish there were reviews written about any and all CUV's in terms of AWD. I am from Ohio, and AWD is important to me. No one seemed to comment if this car or any other performs well in snow. but it has been a mild winter. I am hoping it performs, but I really can't say. I do love the 19" wheels and alloy rims. Very sporty This car has really been a pleasant purchase from my experience. I really feel I made a great decision, and I will admit I was feeling a bit leery reading some Edmunds.com comments. But I just don't (thankfully) have anything but positive things to say about this CUV so far. Maybe that will change over time, but I do like the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty and roadside assistance, Both nice, Just to show my impartiality, I do have one disappointment so far. Oddly the option I told my wife I was least interested in has become a favorite of mine. The sport and higher models come with front and passenger heated seats. I was kind of like "meh, what a wimpy option" - just seemed like something else that could break over time......well, my only beef with the Tucson has been that it take a long time for the engine to warm and move the thermo needle off cold. I find myself about a good 8 minutes into a drive at least before it moves. So, those heated seats have been a darn nice option these last few days keeping my AZZ and back warm waiting for the heat to crank. Wish it warmed faster, but now I just start it a few minutes in my garage before I leave........but that's my one complaint. I love the comfort of this car, I love the look of the car, And it does indeed glide, quiet as can be at high speed on the highway. My advice? Test, test, test yourself. Test the exact car you are going to buy; maybe there are subtle differences from engine to engine. I think I got the best bang for my buck with this car!

After a couple of months, Hyundai was finally able to fix the dual-clutch transmission (DCT) by putting in a whole new updated software module. So far...so good. Otherwise, happy with the vehicle.

Traded Mustang for an SUV, and not disappointed

What? Traded in a Mustang for an SUV and not disappointed? How can that be you ask? Well first off you can't compare the two, one is pure American muscle rumbling down the highway sucking down gas blowing the doors off other cars. Will it beat a Mustang off the line? Uh no, of course not. Is it as flashy and eye catching as the Mustang? Again no. Are strangers going to come up to me at the gas station and tell me how much they like my car, eh probably not. So why am I so happy with my Tuscon? Three reasons, performance, convenience, and size. I'm sure it's also a lot safer than my old Mustang but let's focus on those other three. In terms of performance, as I said it's not a Mustang. It's an SUV. The Tuscon is a peppy little guy, the 1.6L Turbo is a huge difference over the 2.4L non-Turbo in the base model. Put it in sport mode and it can really get up and go. Gets up to freeway speeds just fine, has no trouble at all. Haven't really used the eco mode, I tend to keep it in normal or in Sport when I want a little extra zest. The 7 speed automatic manual transmission deal they got going on is really nice. Much better than the CVT stuff other manufacturers are using. It's a new trans so hopefully it holds up to the test of time. That's where the warranty comes in, if it has problems I'm covered for 100,000 miles. Now when it comes to convenience, you get all the gadgets and gizmos you would expect on a 2016, and with Hyundai you get a lot more than others. Bluetooth, touch screen radio, back up camera, all standard on the Eco (the middle tier trim level). The controls are all right there on the steering wheel and it is all intuitive. No need to read the manual to figure out what things do. So what about size? I'm not a small guy (6 foot and weigh more than I should). I fit just fine. Plenty of room to drive in comfort. I haven't really sat in the back seat, but that's for the kids so who cares. Speaking of the kids, they really like how the back seats actually recline a bit. Something our Kia does not do. And while talking about the Kia there is definitely more cargo room in the back than in my Sportage. The best thing about size, is the overall size. It's not a huge SUV. It drives like a car, and parks like one but there is still room for a family of 4 and our giant dog to ride in the very back.

When I first purchased the vehicle I noticed a significant delay between pressing on the gas pedal and acceleration. Within one week of driving the Tuscon I was almost in an accident because the SUV was slow to respond through an intersection. I reported this to the dealer and was informed by one of his technicians that there was a recall and a software update was needed. The update was only moderately successful. The transmission is unpredictable in how it responds to steep hills, sporadically jerky, and still, at times, slow to accelerate only now its inconsistency keeps you sweating it out at busy intersections. Every passenger that has been in this vehicle has commented on it. I've talked to the technician and he told me this is the nature of a dual clutch transmission but he would look at it. I have told the owner of the Hyundai dealership on two occasions that I believe this vehicle is unsafe and should not be on the road.

This crossover is amazing! The power from this little thing is amazing, don't let the size fool you. This thing has everything you could want in a crossover. Whether your looking for a family vehicle or just looking for something that's versatile for your everyday agenda, this will exceed your expectations. The interior is extremely roomy, I am about 6' 1" 175lbs and can sit in the back seat and have plenty of room to relax. The back seats recline just like the front seats do which is great for long trips. The dash layout is very logical but also feels high class. The exterior styling is very sporty and aggressive, plus the 19" rims complement the styling even more. I've had this car for a month now and love it. My favorite things are: -Panorama Sunroof -Beautiful leather interior -Super spacious -Great styling -Quick engine and transmission I looked at all the other cars in this class, but the only one that came close was the Mazda CX5, but I think this is better by far. I haven't had this car long so I will post in the future with a lono term update.

I love the look of the new Tucson! But I don't spend that kind of money for looks alone. I really like great in cabin tech. I thought Android Auto was going to be available from the start. Turns out there's a delay in the upgrade. The voice command system is horrifically slow. I think Android Auto or Apple Car play will do wonders for the system. The Nav is great but you'll want to type in the destination rather than use the voice command. The 8" touch screen is very responsive & you'll feel just like you're using your phone or tablet. The rear camera, back-up sensors, blind spot & lane departure are awesome! The interior materials are great (Limited edition/Ultimate package). Now the dual clutch transmission. This is going to be tough to get used to. It has a significant hesitation from a dead stand still. I find myself "2 footing" when I need to jump into traffic from a complete stop. (Left foot on the brake & give it a little rev) It's much better than any CVT I've ever driven (I really hate those) but I would have preferred a traditional transmission. The auto stick is awesome & I'll use that when I need to jump off a line as well. Backing up at low speeds will sometimes cause the car to "lurch". Not sure why that happens but when backing into my garage I have to "2 foot" it again. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase & I'm looking forward to the Android Auto update. ***Update I've owned it for a while now. I had the software updated which eliminated the hesitation from a dead stop & the lurching while going in reverse. The dual clutch transmission is still hard to get used to. It's just not a smooth shifter. STILL waiting for Android auto update. ***Update 2 I've owned it for 13 months now. They finally recalled the transmission problem. The latest update to the software seems to have finally fixed the problems. Still doesn't shift as smoothly as my wife's '17 Santa Fe Sport Limited. But it is lighter on it's feet & has a more sporty feel. The Android Auto update is amazing! I would never by another car that didn't come with Android Auto & Apple Car Play. ***Update 3: 3 years now. Still love it. Just normal maintenance. ****Update 4 Own it 4.5 years now. 28,000 miles on it. My only complaint continues to be the rough shift of the transmission. Hyundai says there's nothing they can do about it.

Major problems with my Tuscon

Currently the 2016 Tuscon is having major problems and Hyundai can't seem to put its finger on what to do or how to comfort those that bought this lemon. I took my Tuscon in after owning it for a month because the car didn't seem to know when to shift into the next gear. They told me it needed a system update and immediately after the update the car was shuttering when you come to a stop. Literally, the car starts vibrating and jerks back and forth as if it wants to move while your foots holding down the brake. Long story short, after talking to 2 different dealerships and customer service and corporate I was told to live with it. That they have no answer to the problem, no idea when it can be fixed and that it may be how the car is supposed to drive. I was livid, I couldn't believe what the guy from Cororate said over the phone. And this came out of Corporate. At that moment I lost all faith in HYundai and I knew I would never again own a Hyundai. Please, please, please do not buy the 2016 Tuscon until this problem is fixed. I am in the process of selling mine as soon as I can. And remember Hyundai may have the best warranty and that may be because they need the best warranty because this vehicle is awful to drive. A year later, and finally the jerking of the car is better(not perfect) but what a terrible car and experience. Now the Blind Side Detection doesn't work. Already brought in once but at the end of the day they told me I needed to bring it back for a more win depth look. Rough ride, noisy and the knowledge that I will never buy another Hyundai nor let anyone in my family or friends is all I learned form this purchase..

Update: 9/2020 car has 22,400 miles Purchased SUV in 2016 Fuel Economy - EPA rating was lower than I am getting. I am getting almost 25 to 27.5 mpg in the city depending on air conditioner use and weather. Performance - Acceleration, Braking, Road Holding, Shifting, Steering I tested all modes of performance and found none lacking in performance. Some people complain about power but I found that using the proper mode for what you want the car to do resolves all issues. Comfort - Front and Rear Seats - At first I thought the seats were a little uncomfortable (firm) but they are great once you get used to them. Getting In and out - I had no problems and did not have to use the handles at the top of the door. My friends range in height from 5'6" to over 6' and they all had no problems. Noise, Vibration, ride and comfort - The car is great I tested it over rail road tracks, uneven surfaces, pot holes. All bumps were absorbed very well. Noise was minimal compared to other more expensive SUV's. Interior - Here is where personal choice comes in. Cargo/Storage- Lets face it this is not a full size SUV but for the size it is great. I put a medium size dog kennel in it and still was able to put up one of the rear car seats. That left 1 passenger in the rear and a lot of space behind the kennel. Instrumentation - Once you get used to the different control modes it is fantastic. Interior Design - No complaints everything is easy to reach. It would be nicer if the center console was just a little bigger but I am being picky. Logic of Controls - Everything is easy to get to. If I had a suggestion it would be to move the transmission mode switch to the dash board, if it were possible to put it on the steering wheel that would make it amazing. Quality of materials - Some reviews said it had a lot of hard plastic and that is true but for me the car was fine. Safety - As far as I know everything is great. Technology - Fantastic but it depends on what you want. For me having the radio, blue tooth phone, cruise on the steering wheel is great. The blue tooth phone mode sounds great on both ends. The regular display size is also good. The sound system is good for most people again a mater of taste. USB ports are in a perfect place. Climate control on SE in manual and works as designed. Reliability - 2.0 with the regular automatic transmission - no problems shifting. I keep it in mostly in economy mode. If I shift it to sport it has a lot of pep. Dealer ship support - My dealer is ok and matches some competitor coupons. Dealer regular prices to high. Value - Fuel economy is great compared to full size SUV and other models of this size. Maintenance Cost - To early to tell, depends on were you get your car serviced, dealer expensive, I prefer local mechanic. Purchase price - Excellent when compared to other companies with the same options. Knowing how to negotiate very well can save you thousands. Warranty - Best warranty I found. I also purchased the Portfolio warranty that turned it into a 10 year/100,000 warranty for almost everything but wear and tear items because I will be having the car for at least that long (my last car had 174,000 on it and was 16 years old, had only 2 repairs a water and fuel pump in the last year (they do not make them like that anymore). Final Thoughts: Most of my trips are short and around town with my dog in a crate this car works great for that purpose. I thought I would miss my Ford Explorer but I don't. I found I actually prefer cloth over leather seats in the hot and cold. I do not regret this purchase. Repairs/recalls: In the first year I had an alarm horn replaced. In the 2nd year and 3rd year a manufacturers recall was done when I did an oil changed. The recall did not effect my cars operation.

At any milage this car can fail to start after a stop including while waiting to make a left turn into traffic. You will be told it isn't broken so it can't be fixed, they never heard of this issue before, you are not driving properly. Hyundai knows about this issue, many "tickets" have been opened ,they are "stonewalling". Check out other blogs, so far I have counted 90 people who have had this transmission issue and I suspect that is a fraction of what the total will be. The warranty that is so impressive was ignored because while the car did not work it was not broken. That should be a warning to all Hyundai buyers.

I test drove this car righ after this model arrived at my local dealership. Liked everything about the car except one fatal flow - the DCT transmission failed to move the car from the intersection when the light changed to green for about 5 seconds after I depressed the pedal. The dealer made an awkward attempt to convey that this is normal for this transamission type. I turned around, drove back to the dealeship and parted our ways. If I ever drive this car agin - I would like to invite the company management family members for a ride along and see if they value the lives of their loved once the same way they value the lives of their customers. Please stay away from this car - it may get you killed.

The looks are what get you to the dealership right? In it's market space, the redesigned Tucson is sleeker than everything else. The exterior looks futuristic without being over the top. The interior is wonderfully laid out and minus being unable to get my seat JUST right (the headrests are simply odd) and maybe a few too many blind spots, it is knockdown awesome. But then you drive it. During the test drive you can feel a bit of sluggishness coming off the line, and you are reminded by the salesperson that this car comes with a fancy "dual clutch transmission". So you think, "well, brand new car, probably something I can get used to". But you can't get used to it. You can't get used to driving a stick without it being a stick. You cannot get used to the rules having a dual clutch transmission comes with ("don't creep up on the car in front of you in traffic, wait until there is some space and then pull forward". Seriously?). But you bought it and you just think that over time everything will be ok. And then comes the gear stalls. When you are in first gear and the DCT doesn't engage second gear, but the computer thinks it did so now your in some odd wonderland between first and second, sort of gliding (or stalling is more like it). And if you stomp on the accelerator, nothing happens....you've got to "tap, tap tap" the gas pedal and get third gear to engaged. And after you shut the car off for a bit and come back, it's like nothing ever happened and the dealership just claims ignorance. Its really unfortunate to lose as much money as I will when I offload this and go to something else, but I feel less and less safe every time I drive it.

I purchased a 2016 Tucson in April . this was my all time favorite car, until last week. I drive on the interstate every day and often experience heavy traffic. this day was no exception. I was in stop and go traffic. it was about 90 degrees outside. I took my foot off of the brake and stepped on the accelerator and the car would not go. there were no indicator lights on. I put the car in park and retried and the car would not go. I was in a traffic jam so I put on flashers, called the Hyundai motor assistance and began the wait. the car continued to run not overheating no indicator lights. finally some concerned motorists came to my rescue and pushed me off of the highway, because by this time I was causing a traffic jam. while on the side of the road, the transmission overtemp alarm indicator came on. this was more than an hour after the problem began. I shut down the car. AAA came and he started my car and it was fine. I felt like an idiot. I figured that the dealership would say that I was making it up or that women don't know how to drive. I was on the highway stranded for 3hours and by the way the road side assistance never showed up. they called 5 hours later at my home to ask if I was safe. my car is still at the dealership. they do not have a fix and the service manager was very nice and honest. the big problem for me is that this car is not safe and Hyundai is in denial. I'm going to the tv networks as this looks like it fits the criteria of a lemon.

Purchased car four months ago and loved it until about 3500 miles when the transmission started acting up, at an intersection, step on the gas and car goes nowhere, just like you're in neutral. Took in in to the dealer was told the tranny needed a software update, got it back the next day took it for a long ride in the mountains and guess what happened. Dealer doesn't know how to fix it now, started a case with Hyundai, I am refusing to accept it back from the dealer until it is safe. Got a call from Hyundai a few days ago, they tell me they are working on a fix but it is three to five weeks out, they did however, offer to buy it back. I read the sample buyback letter and it looks like if I accept the offer I will pay for mileage, lose the money paid for gap insurance, and since I was about $1800 upside down in my trade in I will owe that money too, great, I will owe $3000 and have no vehicle. Awesome service for a defective car that could have killed someone. Thanks very much Hyundai, my fifth new Hyundai purchase will be my last.

ok I have been to about 60 dealerships in multiple states for over 2 years shopping and test driving everything in this segment many times, I am very picky, I wish I could take the best things I like and morph them together so I waited and waited for this car to come out and see if I liked it. I had no interest in the old Tucson and the new Santa Fe was of big interest to me but I felt it was overpriced with the added features......I really do like this suv so far, the one thing I think that is overlooked by the "professionals" that test drive this suv is this suv has 195 pounds of torque at ONLY 1500 rpms and that is sustained until 4500 rpms..... I used to drive a Santa fe and I still cannot get used to the power the turbo Tucson has.....I have whip lash pulling out of stop signs. For a SUV/CUV its kind of a smaller lighter one with a high torque rating....I have to drive in ECO mode to try to acclimate myself....I think I would have already killed myself if it had more power - I cannot find an accurate 0-60 yet anywhere- those published are being confused with the 2.0 engine.... I think the "professionals" that do the test drives are so diluted with the massive range of cars trucks SUV's etc that they drive they loose the ability to fine tune what matters to the specific group of people into this type of car.......Also there is a lot of room in the front seat - seems to have endless adjustment to it - I am a huge guy 6'3 and 250 pounds and just to feel like the Santa fe I have to have the seat upwards, I will slowly adjust this back as I get used to the car.....Also no one wants to discuss the arguments about the 19 inch wheels adding a little to the ground clearance - an engineer showed me this huge equation that in the end said it added 1.45 inches........who knows....But I am impressed with the power, I thought it was slightly bigger and more powerful that the CX-5 and handled just as good maybe better off regular roads...... remember I am not a car driver I have drivin the Santa fe for several years previously.... The Nissan rougue: I liked the looks of but did not handle well for me at all the new redesign was a little better but still not good enough (felt like I would flip it around bends). The Rav 4, Honda CRV, and Escape seemed kind of boring and handling was average or below for me and I am also annoyed by both the inside and outside of the Honda CRV and everyone's infatuation with it because the "professionals" are in love with it and it wins awards.......However the Subaru had superior feeling on handling - I came close to buying it - but I could not live with the square shape and boring colors even with the new redesign.... to each his own, I will give updates as I drive the car more....

BEWARE - TRANSMISSION NIGHTMARES

Update. I kept the car until August 2016. The dealer did several fixes and the transmission was still not right. I know the recall work they performed did not fix the issue either. I hope the new owners are still alive I bought my Tucson Limited in February 2016. This was my 3rd Hyundai and I never had issues before. The car was not right from the beginning..,,,the ride was uneven and the transmission was jumpy..I had it in 3 times in the first month for the rough ride and they ended up replacing all 4 tires. Things were ok until a few weeks ago when the transmission started really acting up. I was in traffic and stopped at a light and when i stepped on the gas to go, the rpms went up but the car would not move. It happened 5 times that day. I took it to service and they told me there was "no known issue" and they said they could not replicate it so there was nothing they could do. One week later I went to make a turn and the car would not move. I almost got hit. I called service again and this time they said they did a "software update" and it was fixed. That lasted one week and it happened again last Friday on my way to work. Its in the shop now. They have given me a rental. As soon as I get this car back I am trading it in. I know i will lose a lot of money but I am so scared to drive it again. I have submitted cases to Hyundai Consumer Affairs and the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration. This car is dangerous. Does someone have to get injured or die before they do a recall? It will happen if they let this go.

Like other reviews the DCT is dangerous and this car should not be on the road. Had 3 occasions when the car has completely failed to accelerate, luckily in each case no one behind me and not crossing a road. After the first occasion took it into the dealership they "updated" the software but did not inform me this is a known issue. Next day happened twice within a few minutes, plus overrevved when changing from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. Took the car back to the dealership and they admitted this was a know issue and the software update does not work. Hyundai are meant to be working on a new version, timeline unknown. I have requested a buyback from Hyundai and filed complaint with NHTSA, where there are hundreds of similar complaints. Hyundai and their dealerships should be getting this car off the road. Based on my customer service to date I will never buy another Hyundai or use this dealership chain. Even if they provide an update will almost certainly sell immediately.

As of September 25, 2015 I own a 2016 Tucson ECO model. Within one yes ONE week of buying it the gear shifter got stuck,. My car would NOT shift to reverse neutral, Drive etc. After several attempts I got it to go and took it to the dealer. They switched out the shifter for a new one (should have been a red flag at the time that it had to do with the transmission). In Jan 2016, at only 3,000 miles the car started jerking while stopped for over 2 minutes. It was pulling back and forth like if it wanted to continue to go, I took it back to the dealer and they suggested i tried higher grade gas. I tried switching up the gas I used and the problem continued. I took the car is a 3rd time, and this time they claimed it was a computer issue so they reset the computer and I once again drove off, WITH A VEHICLE THAT STILL MALFUNCTIONED. Finally, I took it in a 4th and last time before the determined the issue is the transmission and it needs to be replaced. When have you heard of a NEW vehicle needing a transmission replaced at only 4,000 miles???? Please save yourself the headache and DO NOT buy this Tucson!

I do have to say this CUV has surprised me, I am coming out of a 2015 Forester XT which I sent back under the Lemon Law, hated the CVT, and had nothing put problems with it after 10,000 miles, my first Subaru, may be the last. On to the Tucson, I read all about the DCT, and test drove the car 3 times before the purchase, at first was going to get the Base 1.6, but after reading all that came with the Sport decided to upgrade a little. It's worth the extra $1700, blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert with the back up camera, 19" wheels, heated seats, and the best part the automatic rear hatch opening when to walk up. I am 6'3" stocky, and fit fine, did not fit in the CRV hate the CVT anyway), the Mazda CX-5, or the Rav-4. Back to the DCT, I understand why people complain, but if you stay out of the ECO Mode, unless you are cruising on the highway, it's great, even normal has good punch off the line, and still no matter what I do getting 28-31 MPG. Interior fit, and finish is great, heated seats work well, two minor complaints, no locking glove box, and there is a dead spot when backing up slowly. If you are in the market for a CUV drive this one, just stay out of ECO mode, do Sport Mode you'll love it.

I bought my 2016 1.6L Turbo DCT Tucson Limited w/ Ultimate package the night of May 16, 2016. First incident: within 300 miles, stepped on the gas pedal & it didn't move; kept stomping on the pedal; it finally lurched forward, into oncoming traffic, then didn't move; kept stomping; it jerkily and slowly starting lurching forward; the engine was revving high through all the gears, but it didn't "kick in" until about 5th gear. Second incident: backed out of my driveway and put the car in Drive; it revved through about 5 gears and hadn't moved yet. Third incident: stopped at a red light; light turned green and car wouldn't moved; shifted through all the gears (Park, Neutral, Reverse, Drive) about 6 times before it finally peeled out and sped through the intersection (sure am glad the light was still green, because I wasn't looking). Headed straight to dealership. They discharged the capacitor and "re-taught it the system". Mine was not the first Tucson brought back to the dealer. Thought I noticed a failure to accelerate within a day or two, but was confirmed when... Fourth incident: Turning left, after stopping at a Stop Sign; mid-turn an oncoming car was approaching rapidly so I stepped on the gas pedal; it revved over 4K RPMs, but didn't accelerator; oncoming car swerved to miss me; frightening as hell! My Tucson has been at the dealership since June 24th. I've been told many stories: waiting on a back-ordered part; part due in 7/16/16; manufacturer instructed dealer not to install part because it isn't a "fix"; filed complaints at carcomplaints.com, NHTSA, Hyundai Corporate, and now here; as of yesterday (8/1/16), I've been told a "fix" was discovered last Friday. It's supposedly going through the approval stages and should be disseminated to the dealerships within 2-3 weeks. I know I didn't get to drive my Tucson for very long, but, what I did have the opportunity to experience (interior, comfort, & technology) I fell in love with, or I would have gone through the Lemon Law and gotten rid of it. There was even talk of a "buy back", but I really wanted to wait for my Tucson. I don't have buyer's remorse, I just have great disappointment that Hyundai sold me this 2016 Tucson in the first place, knowing they are death-traps that they can't keep on the road nor fix, and knowing they are releasing 2017s with the same faulty DCT. If there is not truly a remedy in the near future, I will be squeezing that Lemon.

Do not buy a 2016 Tucson Hyundai it is on consumer reports list of used cars not to buy the transmission no matter how many times you take it back it works a little better when you get it and then starts becoming very erratic vibrates hesitates it's terrible. In cold weather the heater only gets lukewarm there's nothing can be done about that either. The DCT, cannot be fixed properly in the early 2016 models there's been a class action lawsuit filed in California I keep waiting on Hyundai to send me something to take this car back do something

Great car if you can handle the turbo and DCT

I love the DCT and little 1.6L turbo. I get 31 mpg and drive 'normal'. And sometimes I'll hit sport mode and the car is really fun to drive (but I lose some of that great mpg). Lots of people complain about the DCT and maybe there are issues, but not with mine. You have to know what to expect with the turbo and the DCT. It has only a little 1.6L engine and you need that turbo to get it going. Once under boost, it is impressive. The DCT takes about 1/2 a second to engage, just like you would if you drove a manual. Give it the 1/2 sec and it all works great. I'd like to see better integration with iOS and Android and a lower cost for the Bluelink package. I had a 2003 Infiniti FX35. The 2016 Tuscon is a better vehicle.

The problem that I am having is when I start to accelerate going through the gears 1,2,3 and 4 there is a huge, pause/delay in shifting through the gears. In fact there has been may times when I start to accelerate the gears pauses and I hit the gas again and the vehicle does not accelerate at all the RPM's go up sometimes past 6 and the transmission start burning. I even got an safety display message that the transmission is overheated and to pull over for safety until it cools down. Note I only have 5719 miles and my 4th time taking it back to the dealership for service. I am driving in fear everything because this problem happens when it wants to sometimes the vehicles drives perfect then the next minute I'm having the same issue. This problem is happening at a street light, stop sign, stop and go traffic on the streets and on the freeway, when I am slowing down to make a turn then accelerate and in the morning, afternoon and at night. I am afraid when I start to accelerate then the next second I cannot accelerate that the car behind me or if I am changes lanes and stop accelerating than another vehicle will crash into me. I don't know if the problem is the actual transmission and or software related, but it is unsafe and I do not want to drive this vehicle anymore.

This car is not safe. Dual clutch transmission will end up hurting somebody. Vehicle will unexpectedly stall and put people/families in danger. Dealerships are not able to respond to customers. Not an isolated problem (see reviews). How is there not a recall on this vehicle? Vehicle is currently at dealership (shop)...I don't expect it back anytime soon. I really hope my dealership steps up and takes care of this....looking at a Subaru Outback.

This is the worst SUV I have ever purchased. I just had my third recall on a transmission issue. Car jerks and feels like it is going to stall frequently. The car is loaded with options... back trunk opens on its own while driving and stopped, front seat had to be replaced after 1,000 miles. Car has 18,000 miles on it. Dealership is awful they pretend the problem does not exist or frequently blame it on lack of driving ability. Look for another SUV.. for $33,000 you can find something a lot better. Getting rid of it!

Brand new Hyundai Tucson purchased February 2016. Weather turned hot in June. Car would not accelerate at all after stopping at red lights. Foot on accelerator all the way to the floor. Tachometer reving but car not going. Happened numerous times. Car brought in June 29 and kept by dealer at manufacturers request. Finally contacted by corporate. They state it is a "software"issue in the dual clutch transmission and they now have a fix. Turbo engine has significant lag even for a Turbo. They are still selling 2016 Tucson 1.6 turbos and now 2017 although the fix has not yet been validated and is not ready to install. Those cars at the dealers still have the faulty transmissions and are not safe to drive. If stuck at a light, stop sign, making a left turn, or intersection you run the risk of being hit and having a catastrophic accident because your car esssentially is not in gear and cannot accelerate forward. You are a sitting duck!

I recently leased a Tucson Limited. --This SUV looks nice from a stand still view. However the TURBO -CHARGER is a terror. When I try to get on a busy hi-speed highway and merge into traffic . the TURBO Charger -/engine all but stops. and I get left sitting in a hi-speed lane with NO POWER. This has happened several times both to MY WIFE and I. It has been back at the dealer for several days . no fix yet. Stay away from this vehicle

My wife had her 2007 Honda CR-V for almost 10 years and 140,000 miles and loved it. It never gave us a day of trouble--not one--and she didn't even mind that it was loud and rough and crude. Based on this, I assumed that when it was time to upgrade, she'd go with the car she felt comfortable with. Nope. She drove a new 2016 CR-V and was pretty surprised that it hadn't evolved at all. In a field of competitors, Honda had done nearly nothing to improve on a car that has fallen further and further behind. I'm shocked that it remains a top pick for small SUVs. I chose a few cars for her to sample. She really liked the Subaru Outback and the Hyundai Santa Fe, but then she drove this and fell in love. It's got a taut but smooth ride, a comfortable and quiet ride, great safety features, easy-to-use technology, and it's kind of gorgeous. There's a LOT here to love. My only complaint (it doesn't bother her at all) is that transmission everyone is talking about. By all accounts the problem is much worse on the base model, but even here on the top-line Limited it's odd. The transmission doesn't know what to do in certain circumstances, and feels unsettled until it gets it legs under it. It does concern me, but the 100k warranty soothes my brow a bit. All in all, it's a pretty great if imperfect car, and I was unable to find a better value anywhere.

I have now owned my 2016 Tucson for 7 months, and it's going strong. We have had an unusual winter here in Vermont this year. We have not received much if any snow, and had a lot of slush and ice. I wasn't sure how the Tucson would handle and it's been great. I live on a dirt road, and find that dirt roads are especially challenging with ice mud and snow. Mud season has come early in Vermont, and a few times when navigating thru the mud, I felt the Tucson wasn't handling well, I turned on the 4 wheel drive and it did great. My gas mileage didn't go down too much during the winter months, that too was a nice surprise. I still get compliments on what a great looking car it is, and often people don't know what it is.

I wanted to love this car....but...one week after having it I was on a canyon in California it began overheating. I pulled over as prompted to let it cool down, went to the dealer was told there was nothing wrong must have been a fluke. This morning back on the canyon had to pull over due to my 2016 overheating....back to the dealership and was told it is operator error. I'm causing the car to overheat with the stopping and starting...WHAT?? I apply the break when stopped and accelerate when I need to move forward....and that is the cause of this? While the technician was explaining this I began video taping his explanation...he stopped and told me I needed to speak with his manager. The manager told me there was not need to tape the conversation, the car will overheat if it's in stop and go traffic and there is nothing they can do about it. "That's the way Hyundai's are made" ......Ummmmmm.....what? This came from the Keyes Hyundai in Van Nuys.

Despite Transmission Issues

Updated 9/2017: After much heartache and difficulty in working with the dealer and manufacturer, it appears that Hyundai has finally resolved the transmission issues found in early model Tucsons. We have not had a problem in the months since the most recent major software upgrade. While I'll admit that my confidence in the vehicle has been weakened by our previous experience, I am cautiously believing that we will now be able to keep this vehicle for the duration. It is also my understanding that those units manufactured after the initial production run did not experience transmission problems to the degree that many of the first available units did. As stated in my original review, we love the new features and really enjoy the size of this model. If no further problems arise, we will be very content with keeping it as our main family vehicle. We want to love this redesigned Tucson. We actually traded a 2014 model to get the upgrades included in 2016. However, after owning the car a year, we can firmly state that we would not purchase it again. After less than two months of normal driving, we began to experience the huge delay and hesitation in shifting from a stop. More than a few times, I felt that my safety was in serious danger. We took the vehicle back to the dealership multiple times to address the issue, but they did not appear to take our complaints seriously until we escalated the problem to the corporate level. At less than six months, our vehicle got an entirely new transmission replacement. It had literally been in the service department a quarter of the time that we owned it. We were very hesitant to accept the "resolution" of a new transmission, however we decided to give it a try. Another six months later, we have begun to experience the same issues again, particularly if the A/C has been turned on right after starting the vehicle. While the Aug. 2016 software update has yet to be installed, we are extremely disappointed in this vehicle. Our feeling is that there will continue to be "updates" for the life of the vehicle. We do not recommend it to anyone, because the time and energy spent trying to fix these MAJOR safety issues is not worth it. We firmly believe that someone will end up getting critically injured in one of these vehicles, resulting in a class action lawsuit.

After driving the wheels off my current 10+ year old car I decided to test drive the Tucson. I researched for months before even setting foot onto the dealership lots. I was looking for an affordable, safe, fun, yet reliable SUV that I can depend on for 10+ years. The Tucson reviews were mostly good but many told tale of the ever dreaded DCT and dangerous lag in acceleration. However, I wanted to see if these claims were true and give the Tucson a fair chance. I test drove both a Limited and Sport model, for trim level comparison purposes. The Sport model is not as stripped down as you would expect but you get a lot of bang for your buck in the Limited. The 1.6L Turbo engine is in both models and is adequate but underpowered. Steering feels light giving the SUV a sporty drive. The technology is impressive and the interior feels upscale. However, like previous reviews warned, you begin to run into problems with the DCT. This car comes equipped with a Dual Clutch Transmission. These three words are often associated with reliability problems. During the test drive when going to accelerate from a stop there is a definite 2-4 second lag. No get-up and go. At the dealership they will tell you this is all due to the turbo lag. However, there seems to be more to this issue than meets the eye. The DCT is a hazard, something Hyundai defiantly needs to improve. Noted by other reviewers and those who actually purchased the Tucson, after months of driving the lag off acceleration only increases. This is a dangerous engineering malfunction. You simply cannot get out of the way of oncoming traffic. Some claimed while they are in drive they experience a feeling like the car is in neutral with the rpm in the red but there is no movement off the line. I waned to believe these claims were not true but even during the test drive it was impossible to turn a blind eye to the obvious issue. It is not one to be overlooked if safety and reliability are top priorities to you. Hopefully Hyundai will fix the issue in later models as I suspect minor software updates cannot save the current models. If you are still bucking for a Hyundai Tucson I would advise you to hold out until these issues are fixed and buy a later model or look elsewhere for an SUV. I choose the latter and left the dealership with my money and no dangerous DCT. Good luck and happy car buying!

UPDATED! The Most Reliable Vehicle I Have Ever Had

UPDATE OCTOBER 2023: This vehicle is amazing, but when buying used, make certain the software updates for the transmission have been installed. This is ONLY for the 1.6 Liter Turbo with the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). This vehicle is absolutely amazing, and you will not find a better value in the segment. Loaded with technology, loaded with safety and loaded with value. The 2016 was a first-year model for this generation of the Tucson, so keep that in mind. That being said, this is hands-down the best vehicle I have ever owned, and is definitely my favorite. UPDATE MAY 2020: Complete engine failure at 62,000 miles. All scheduled maintenance since purchasing new has been performed at the dealership —thankfully— and Hyundai has agreed to full engine replacement under the new/first owner warranty. Will update this review again upon completion. JUNE 2020: Hyundai has acknowledged an issue with the engine failure that was not caused by any type of misuse, neglect, etc and paid for a brand new engine. JANUARY 2021: All is still well with this vehicle. This is the first model year (2016) for this style of Tucson, and there have been issues. However, I love this vehicle, which has remained one of the best values of any vehicle I’ve ever owned. -and I’ve owned a bunch. Perhaps this review / ownership experience has -for me- turned into a review of Hyundai itself. I can’t ever recall hearing of an automaker stand behind its products like Hyundai has with me. They have been great, which is a large part of the ownership experience for me. In my experience, Hyundai has been nothing less than fully present, fully honest and very, very loyal to their customer. I think it’s fair to say that they have earned my loyalty as well.

My 2016 Tucson Limited Ultimate

I selected the Tucson primarily because it has all the safety features I wanted and because many reviewers said it is quiet. There are other good compact SUVs I drove and considered, but most of them did not have at least one of the safety features I wanted. My Tucson has only 2500 miles on the odometer, so I cannot comment on reliability or maintenance costs. It drives very well. It's agile, peppy, has sporty steering, and rides well. I have not experienced the jerky transmission performance many reviewers have commented on. Perhaps it's because I don't jump on the throttle when starting out and always pause a bit before shifting into drive from reverse. Wind noise is very low, even at 80 mph. Road noise, on the other hand, can be very loud, depending on the pavement. Perhaps it's due to the 19 inch wheels and low profile tires. The cabin is all black. The leather seats are comfortable and power adjustable, including the front passenger seat. On a recent drive up 395 with the outside temperature 114° the ventilated seats were very nice. The engine had great power, even at 8,000 ft. The mileage was 31.4 mpg for the 595 mile trip with the A/C on all the way. The navigation/entertainment system works fine, but has a steep learning curve. It did not have Apple Play initially, but it does now by download at Hyundai . The BlueLink system has three components, Connected Care, Remote Package, and Guidance Package. All are subscription based extra cost. I have used them all during the 90 day free trial period. The Guidance Package allows the user to set the Navi destination remotely from Google. It works, but IMHO is far too expensive for the benefit, especially since Apple Play is now standard. I cancelled it. The Remote Package has the ability to start and stop the engine and climate system remotely for a smart phone and assist in stolen car recovery. I subscribed for a year, but for my purpose, living in Southern California, it's not worth the cost and I will not renew it. The main features of Connected Care are automatic collision notification and assistance, SOS emergency assistance, and enhanced roadside assistance. I will subscribe to it. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the Tucson and recommend it.

This is my 4th Hyundai, 1 Sonata and I just bought my 3rd Tuscon Limited. There is a reason for that. Most people only write reviews when they have something to complain about, not many write when everything is good! When a company sells thousands of vehicles and you get less that 100 complaints, That's pretty good! Most of the people that complain are chronic complainers. I know first hand. I owned a couple ice cream stores, you'd be surprised of the frequency of chronic complainers. Anyways.....Back to the review. With all the Hyundai's I have owned. The only things I have had to replace were tires and windshield wipers. That's it. They have been great and I for one WILL continue to buy them.

Car almost got me killed several times

My husband bought me this car to replace a CRV. It was the ultimate car of my dreams and despite the high cost, we leased it. At first the car ran great. I loved the interior and the color. However, after awhile, it started jerking going up hills and sputtering making turns. Eventually, it stopped going when I would press the gas to the point where I was almost taken out by a truck. The car was recalled whereas the recall stated my car needed a software update, and then a hood latch update and then again for another software update. Each time I took it to get the updates, it would run okay for a day, but after it would start with the transmission problems and sputtering and jerking. After riding the car on the highway for about 40 minutes, the "Transmission is too hot!" warning came on, but luckily I was right down the street from my home. We took it back to the repair shop and that is where it will stay until the problem is fixed or Hyundai takes it back. This car is UNSAFE to drive and Hyundai is NOT listing and won't until somebody is killed.

Very nice ride and quiet is the reason I purchased this. This vehicle offered things my other suv did not have. I was getting ready to re purchase a mazda cx5. the tucson has rear air vent, rear seat heaters. Front air ventilated seats along with heat. Blind spot monitor is nice. Panoramic sunroof is nice. Nice pick up with Turbo. Nice split screen with Nav and radio. Beautiful styling in my opinion. A few negatives, Automatic tailgate lift when you get behind it would go off just walking behind it. I turned it off along with lane departure warning. Hard plastic on interior door panels even tho nice interior. I miss the 3 D function of the navigation my Mazda had. On a bright sunny day hard to read temp gauges they get a little washed out. People talked about duo transmission having a little lag but was not an issue with me. All in All a very nice ride. I like it very much.
