2023 Audi TT Review
Pros
- Sporty handling instills confidence in any situation
- Standard all-wheel drive gives it all-weather capability
- Performance doesn't sacrifice fuel economy
Cons
- Comically small rear seat in the coupe
- Limited cargo capacity hurts practicality
What's new
- Other than new wheel designs, the Audi TT returns unchanged for 2023
- Part of the third TT generation introduced for 2016
Overview

When the first Audi TT made its U.S. debut in 2000, it received rave reviews for its groundbreaking Bauhaus-inspired design and peppy performance. In some ways, it was a more distinguished alternative to the cute and mechanically related VW Beetle revival. More than two decades later, the TT has gotten away from its styling roots but maintains its fun-to-drive nature.

The current third-generation 2023 Audi TT is showing its age, though, as it was last redesigned in 2016. With the public's waning interest in small and sporty coupes, it seems likely that 2023 will mark the end of the TT line, at least in its internal combustion form. That means if you've ever wanted one of these fun little coupes or convertibles, you should act sooner rather than later.
As much as we like the Audi TT, there are some alternatives worth considering. The BMW 2 Series is coming off a fresh redesign for 2022 and it's our current class favorite with stronger performance and a more affordable price. There's also the BMW-built Toyota GR Supra that is more athletic but less practical. Even within Audi's own stable, the A3 and S3 are wildly entertaining and more up-to-date when it comes to technology.
2023 Audi TT trim level differences
The 2023 Audi TT is a small sports car available as either a four-seat coupe or a two-seat convertible (called the Roadster). Regardless of body style, the TT is sold in a single well-equipped trim level. The only powertrain is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system are both standard. If the TT's power output doesn't rev your engine, you should check out the 288-hp TTS.
Which TT trim does Edmunds recommend?
Most drivers will find the Audi TT completely satisfying in its base form. Because there aren't any typical trim levels to choose from, the only real decision to make is whether to add the S Line Competition package. If you're willing to make sacrifices to ride quality and comfort in the name of more responsive handling, it could make sense to pony up for that option.

2016 Audi TT 2.0T quattro 2dr Convertible AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 6AM)
Overall a really great car. I have driven the car about 1200 miles now over the last month. The only complaint I have is in normal drive (not sport mode), the car shifts too quickly causing lower rpm and sluggish performance at the low rpm, the engine almost starts knocking. Once you punch the accelerator, it downshifts quickly and performance is great. In sport mode, the car drives … perfectly, shifting smoothly with incredible acceleration. In dynamic drive, the car handles like a race car, hugging corners with no body roll. Paddle shifts are easy to use, just need to get used to them since I am use to a normal manual transmission. Don't put anyone in the back seats, it is good for holding bags.
2019 TT -A SPORTS COUPE THAT SETS ITSELF APART

2019 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI quattro 2dr Coupe AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 7AM)
I test drove the 2019 Audi TT with the S-Line Competition Package.
I've owned a BMW 1 series with aftermarket suspension tweaks, a Mercedes-Benz C Class coupe with the AMG Sport package Plus, and have driven the new Porsche Cayman, Mercedes SLC, BMW 2 Series, Infiniti Q60, and Jaguar F-Type for comparison. These are all excellent vehicles but I feel the Audi TT with the S-Line … Competition Package sets itself apart from its competition in several ways. All of these cars can turn heads but I find that the iconic TT body style has been refined to near perfection with this package and the interior with its digital controls for the AC in its air vents, diamond patterned upholstery with accent stitching, Audi's acclaimed virtual cockpit, interior LED and mood lighting, one of the best feeling flat bottom steering wheels in vehicles south of $100,000, along with 22 cubic feet of luggage capacity with the rear seats down, make the 2019 TT with the S-Line Competition Package feel more modern, provide more luggage capacity, and offer a better ambience at night than its competitors. Being a more GT kind of guy, I prefer the individual settings set to Dynamic with the exception of the exhaust note & suspension set to comfort to provide a more comfortable ride and maximize enjoy enjoyment of the TT's very good Bang & Olufsen 680 watt 12 speaker 14 channel audio system, while still hearing a subtle engine growl when you step on it. The car is adequately fast for my taste and was tested at a 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds before the new being upgraded with the very fast shifting 7-speed DCT transmission. The base TT provides the kind of usable power that's not too excessive so you can fully implement and experience its maximum potential for everyday driving fun! Add to all of this its all wheel drive capability that allows you to be a hooligan even when it's raining and provide additional safety during inclement weather, and relatively low price point compared to its competitors, and the Audi TT truly sets itself apart from everything in its class. It has very precise steering although lacking the heft and road feel of some of its competitors, and phenomenal grip that tested at a lateral acceleration of.98g!
Although the TT has two cup holders, one of those is in the center storage compartment. You should be able to hold normal sized water bottles sideways in the door pockets but there's no dedicated cup holders in the door pockets.
In summary, driving 2019 Audi TT with the S-Line Competition Package at night with its ambient lighting and wonderful Bang & Olufsen stereo system, provided a very unique and enjoyable driving experience. I highly recommend test driving the 2019 TT with the S-Line Competition Package and make sure to check out the individual Drive Select modes to find your favorite individualized settings.
Awesome Audi TT

2016 Audi TT 2.0T quattro 2dr Coupe AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 6AM)
This car is a technological show case! It is quick, responsive, comfortable and solid. Mine is the base model and still awesome. I will find out about the quattro all wheel drive this winter. With its' weight distribution it should be great. The body being aluminum is great for corrosion resistance and light weight strength.
This car allows you to adjust drive settings to your … liking. It is better than I anticipated.
My sixth TT and the best yet

2016 Audi TT 2.0T quattro 2dr Coupe AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 6AM)
OK, so I am a TT fanatic. I've owned or leased 2 first generation, 3 second generation and now my third generation TT. This is the best yet in all respects: design, performance, miles-per-gallon, technology and fun. Even one of my relatives who is not a car person marveled at the car and was especially impressed with the safety features, including the blind spot warning feature. … It's beautiful on the outside with just enough edge to keep it fresh but still maintains the overall sophistication and timeless design of the original. It hugs the road like no other, and I find myself accelerating into curves. The seats are exceptionally comfortable and adjustable. I'm not a race care driver, but I've certainly had no trouble getting this car up to 70-80 MPH in no time at all. I still love the automatic spoiler. But it's the technology that's the true star. The virtual cockpit is amazing. While it took my maybe half a day to get used to it (definitely worth reading the owner's manual), once I did, it became intuitive. You barely have to take your eyes off the road (just a simple glance down) and never have to take your hands off the wheel to manage any and all functions. While not necessary, I have opted for Audi Connect and find myself using it more than I thought I would. I especially like that I can have the system read my texts and emails to me out loud. I feel obligated to find something to criticize; the only thing I would request is to be able to adjust the lumbar support up and down more -- a wider range of vertical motion. Other than that, the car is perfect in my eyes.
We have a limited number of reviews for the 2023 Audi TT, so we've included reviews for other years of the TT since its last redesign.
