In a world rife with SUVs, it can be difficult to stand out. But the 2021 Bentayga manages to make a statement no matter where it goes. Power and build quality are deeply impressive, and customization is nearly unlimited. A new 10.9-inch infotainment system has done wonders for the interior, greatly improving the already excellent Bentayga experience.

What is the Bentayga?
With its posh interior, superlative road manners and eye-watering price tag, the Bentley Bentayga is undoubtedly one of the most exclusive SUVs on the planet. It's been around since the 2017 model year and now, for 2021, gets its first significant update.
We're most excited about the Bentayga's technology improvements, which we cover in detail below. But there's also a new look for the 2021 model. The grille is larger and more upright than before, and new oval-shaped headlights are pushed farther to the outside. Out back, Bentley has relocated the license plate frame below the now full-width hatch, and there are new oval taillights that recall the ones found on the Continental GT. Overall, these changes help introduce Bentley's newest styling traits as well as make it easy to differentiate the refreshed Bentayga from previous-year models.
What's under the Bentayga's hood?
We've never had an issue with the Bentayga's powertrain lineup, so it's good news that engine choices are unchanged from last year. The 2021 Bentayga will launch with the turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, which produces 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. In previous Edmunds testing, this burly engine propelled the Bentayga from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. That's an impressively quick time. A V8-powered Land Rover Range Rover we tested, for example, needed 5.0 seconds for the 0-60 mph sprint.
The Bentayga's other engines will return later in the model year. The first is a turbocharged V6 plug-in hybrid, which serves as the Bentayga's entry-level engine. We'll also see the turbocharged W12 in the top Bentayga Speed trim. While power figures haven't been released yet, we don't expect them to change from the current ratings of 443 horsepower and 626 hp, respectively.
How's the Bentayga's interior?
The Bentayga's expertly crafted interior is one of its defining features, and the 2021 model ups the ante with a greater selection of materials and enhanced usability. There's a new steering wheel and redesigned center stack up front, plus a single central air vent that replaces the twin vents from last year.
Rear occupants get slightly more legroom than last year thanks to redesigned seats, which now offer further customizations for a more tailored look. Ventilated rear seats — previously only available on four-seat configurations — are now available on the popular five-seat Bentayga.
How's the Bentayga's tech?
While these updates are all good and fine, we're most excited about the 2021 Bentayga's revised touchscreen system. The previous 8-inch screen suffered from low-resolution graphics and a thinly veiled Volkswagen interface — not exactly becoming of one of the world's preeminent luxury brands.
Front and center of the 2021 Bentayga is a 10.9-inch screen and several nearby physical buttons that you can press to access high-level infotainment functions. While we haven't tested this setup yet, we expect it'll operate in a similar fashion to the systems we've seen in certain models from Audi and Porsche — Bentley's corporate cousins. And if that's the case, we expect the revised infotainment system to be far more attractive and intuitive than the existing setup.
Wired Android Auto is now supported, while iPhone owners can now enjoy wireless CarPlay functionality. Other enhancements include a fully digital instrument panel and a larger rear-seat control unit.
Edmunds says
The updated 2021 Bentley Bentayga features a restyled exterior and new customization options among its enhancements. But it's the more modern touchscreen interface with better smartphone connectivity that has us most intrigued.

This is our fourth Bentley that we have owned. We purchased a 2018 Bentagya in November 2018. Currently we have 7200 miles on it and this is what we have encountered.
This generation of Bentley has a new set of electronics compared to the last three we owned. We do not like this new set of electronics, the car is very unpredictable and not user friendly. We do not feel this is a SUV that … you can relax and drive. You need to be attentive to certain situations that can occur.
For example every time you turn on the air conditioner and / or heater, you must set your settings each time, (windshield, dash vents, or floor). You need to press more buttons to get the system to work. I have figured out that you need to set up the air system before you start driving due to the time to set up and not looking at the road.
The driver door does not close automatically and will cause the parking brake to come on, whenever you stop. See more in other paragraph.
Bentley has also designed a shut off mode for the motor, that is on unless you turn it off each time you start the car. If you forget to shut off that button or change modes, watch out. You will go to push the gas at a stoplight and nothing will happen, then about the count of 3, BAMMMMM!!! Your car shoots off thru the light. We have almost rear ended several cars because of this. You go to push the gas and nothing happens, you wonder what happened, and then it starts and rockets off.
The front end collision braking system has activated several times on me, and once on my wife, when there was nothing close to the front of the car. When this occurs it almost throws you thru the windshield and makes you nervous each time you see the red light in the dash light up.
The biggest problem we have had is the driver door will not shut automatically with the motor all the time. Sometimes it shuts and sometimes it does not. If you restart the car, it will work (electronics). We took it to the dealer; they tried to update the system with a software update. It did not work. Our door still does not close and now they want to order the part to fix it. I think it is more of an electrical problem than part, but we will see.
The day before we had the car in for service, I had a low tire light come on, so I asked them to fix it. I was told when I picked up the car that they could not fix the tire because the tread was too low and it was against their policy to fix tires in that tread range. Keep in mind that the car only had 6900 miles on it at that time. So my question is, are the tires on the Bentagya only good for 10,000- 12,000 miles? I guess so. Expect to replace your tires after the first year of driving, due to the cheap tires they are putting on them.
This Bentagya is not the SUV that we were hoping for when we purchased it. With what we have encountered so far, I would suggest a Range Rover and save yourself $130,000.
I bought what I thought was my dream vehicle brand ne over 300k mulliner edition. Perfect truck so i thought. I rarely drive it I service it regularly it's my baby. I even hand wash it only. Had extended warranty so I said I dont drive it enough to justify 7I for warranty. Smh why did i not renew warranty. Truck has 30k miles just had to replace the transmission 27k just for the … transmission and 60 hours of labor at Bentley. You do the math and truck depreciation is horrifying. So truck isn't worth 150k now and i just had to spend 40k on transmission so listen to me it was 4 bentaygas at shop for same thing so Bentley knows and are not caring ZF transmissions have a history of this. In all luxury vehicles so please save your self before you regret it
I own a 2018 Bentley Bentayga. It is everything they say about handling, car colors, speed, etc. Hoever what is NOT said is the car' s safety. After only 8800 miles, I took my car in for the first service, which I thought would be routine oil change, filter, etc. I was horrified to learn that my brakes were dangerously low! I had to not only replace pads but rotors as well which had … already been damaged. The service manager at the dealer told me this is a common problem with this car. I am an elderly woman who drives to Dr's apts, church, shopping, etc. I called Bentley numerous times for an explanation. Customer Service told me the Regional Manager would call. After not less than 5 calls, he has yet to return my call.
You take your life and the life of your loved ones in your hands driving this car.
I have 25,000 miles on my 2021 Bentley Bentayga Speed. I had a new computer program downloaded at 15,000 miles and the car has a total different personality sense doing that. I like everything about my Bentayga and appreciate the comfort on long drives. I have owned many luxury car and suv brands, and find the Bentley to be far more advanced in its ergonomics and driver engagement than … the others. Yes, it's a high price to pay for the enjoyment of owning this suv, but I had grown tired of putting up with the short coming of the other luxury brands. The closest suv experience to this Bentayga would be an Audi RSQ8 suv, but the styling is getting long in the tooth. This suv is not for everyone, but I am very happy that I took a chance on the Bentayga, despite a couple bad reviews.
We have a limited number of reviews for the 2021 Bentley Bentayga, so we've included reviews for other years of the Bentayga since its last redesign.
