Trim level differences

For its second model year, BMW adds the M60 trim to the iX lineup, joining the xDrive50. Both versions of the iX have all-wheel drive with two electric motors. The xDrive50 is good for 516 horsepower, while the new M60 puts out a ground-stomping 610 hp. Every iX comes with a 106.3-kWh battery pack, with EPA-estimated range of up to 324 miles in the xDrive50 and up to 288 miles in the M60. Standard advanced driver aids include:

  • Forward collision warning with automatic braking (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Blind-spot warning (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)
  • Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
  • Parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)
  • Automated parking system (steers into a parking spot with little or no driver intervention)

As with most luxury vehicles, the iX xDrive50 offers a lengthy list of optional extras, such as:

iX M60
Besides the extra power, the M60 comes with most of the features from the xDrive50's Premium, Dynamic Handling and Sport packages as standard equipment. Most of the stand-alone options mentioned above are also included as standard.

The M60 offers one main option package called the Executive package, which brings:

  • Soft-closing doors
  • Glass and wood controls
  • Contents of the Driving Assistance Professional package

Which iX trim does Edmunds recommend?

We recommend the iX xDrive50 because it offers impressive performance and has better overall range for less money than the new M60. The  optional Convenience package is also worth getting for its Harman Kardon sound system, augmented reality navigation and surround-view camera.
