What is the X4?
The BMW X4 is the smallest in the company's fastback SUV lineup, slotting in beneath the X6. Though it shares most of its components with the more traditional-looking X3, the X4 trades some rear seat headroom and overall cargo space for its sleeker form factor. With the X4's semi-recent update, we don't expect BMW to implement any major changes for the 2024 model year.
We expect BMW to keep four-cylinder and six-cylinder engine options for the X4 and all-wheel drive as standard. The range should start with the entry-level X4 xDrive30i and build up to the X4 M40i. (We review the high-performance X4 M model separately.) Among other positive attributes, the X4 is one of our favorite SUVs to drive.
Mercedes-Benz offers some stiff competition for the X4 with the GLC Coupe, which was completely redesigned for 2024. With fresher tech and better styling, the GLC Coupe is a better proposition than ever before. Audi's Q5 Sportback also fits the bill with equally smooth styling and similar powertrain options.
