2024 BMW X4 SUV Trims Comparison

Trim level differences

The 2024 BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover, and though it has four doors, it is sometimes referred to as an SUV coupe. It comes in xDrive30i and M40i trim levels. You can also get a high-performance X4 M, which we review separately.

A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (248 horsepower, 258 lb-ft of torque) powers the X4 xDrive30i, while the X4 M40i has a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine (382 hp, 369 lb-ft of torque). Both powerplants pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a standard all-wheel-drive system.

xDrive30i
BMW equips the X4 with plenty of standard features including:

  • 19-inch wheels
  • Power liftgate
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Sport-tuned steering
  • Power-adjustable front sport seats
  • Synthetic leather upholstery
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Digital instrument cluster
  • 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation

The X4 also comes standard with these driver assistance systems:

  • Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)
  • Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
  • Front and rear parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)

  • Aerodynamic body kit

Which X4 trim does Edmunds recommend?

If you're choosing a BMW X4 over the more practical X3 for its sportier look, you might as well get sportier performance to go along with it. That's why we recommend the X4 M40i, which has a terrific turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine boasting mild hybrid technology. Add the M Sport Differential upgrade, and your new SUV will drive better than it looks.
