2024 BMW X6 SUV Trims Comparison

Trim level differences

The 2024 BMW X6 is a midsize luxury SUV with seating for five available in two trim levels: xDrive40i and M60i xDrive. The main differentiator between the trim levels is the engine. The xDrive40i is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine (375 horsepower, 398 lb-ft of torque), while the M60i xDrive uses a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 (523 hp, 553 lb-ft). Both models are equipped with standard all-wheel drive and use an eight-speed automatic transmission. Keep reading for a rundown of the X6's key standard and optional features.

xDrive40i
Comes standard with:

  • 20-inch wheels
  • Adaptive sport-tuned suspension
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Keyless entry with push-button ignition
  • Power-adjustable, heated sport front seats
  • Digital instrument panel
  • 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Onboard navigation
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility
  • Wireless smartphone charging
  • 10-speaker audio system

The X6 also comes with

  • Forward collision warning with automatic braking (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Blind-spot intervention (automatically steers the car back into its lane if you try to change lanes while a car is in the vehicle's blind spot)
  • Rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle behind you is about to cross your path while you're in reverse)
  • Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
  • Parking sensors

M60i xDrive
Adds a powerful turbocharged V8 engine, a sportier personality and a few extra features with:

  • Contents of the Premium package (see below)
  • Sport exhaust
  • Four-wheel steering (enhances low-speed maneuverability)
  • High-performance brakes
  • Performance differential (helps maximize available traction during hard acceleration)
  • Sport steering wheel
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Harman Kardon audio system
  • Head-up display (displays important information in your sight line on the windshield)

Several option packages are available for both trim levels. They include:

Driving Assistant Professional package

  • Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the X6 and the car in front)
  • Lane keeping assistance (steers the X6 back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
  • Lane centering system (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane)
  • Highway Assistant (allows for low-speed hands-free driving in certain situations)
  • Front cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle is about to cross your path and cause a collision)

Premium package

  • Remote engine start (xDrive40i only)
  • Full LED exterior lighting
  • Harman Kardon audio system
  • Head-up display (displays important information in your sight line on the windshield)
  • Augmented video for navigation

Executive package

  • Contents of the Premium package
  • Soft-close doors (catch as they're being closed and gently pull shut)
  • Panoramic sunroof with LED lighting
  • Rear window shades
  • Glass controls

Parking Assistance package

  • 360-degree camera system (gives you a top-down view of the X6  and its surroundings in tight parking situations)
  • Automated parking system (steers into a parking spot with little or no driver intervention)

Climate Comfort package

  • Ventilated front seats (xDrive40i only)
  • Heated steering wheel, armrests and rear seats
  • Four-zone climate control

Notable stand-alone options include a selection of 20- to 22-inch wheels, carbon-fiber trim, a trailer hitch, extended leather upholstery, massaging front seats, and a Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

Which X6 trim does Edmunds recommend?

As tempting as the optional turbocharged V8 is, we'd put our money into xDrive40i. We find the redesigned inline six-cylinder engine to be plenty powerful. As for options, consider getting the Executive package for the panoramic roof and upgraded sound system and the Climate Control package for the four-zone climate control and ventilated front seats.
