The 2025 BMW Z4 is a rear-wheel-drive two-seat roadster available in two trim levels: sDrive30i and M40i. The sDrive30i comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 255 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. The M40i upgrades to a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder (382 hp, 368 lb-ft). An eight-speed automatic comes standard on both trims, but the M40i offers an optional six-speed manual transmission.
Which Z4 trim does Edmunds recommend?
Purists will love the new optional manual transmission, only available on the M40i. It's the trim we'd suggest anyway, with or without the stick shift. The new manual option gets you sharper, more dynamic handling thanks to unique steering and suspension settings. But even with the eight-speed automatic transmission, the M40i delivers more power, a sportier suspension, enhanced traction with its M Sport differential, and upgraded brakes, creating a more complete performance package.
