  • The airbag may not achieve its intended shape.
  • Dealers will inspect the center pillar garnishes and replace them with new ones, if necessary.

TORRANCE, California Toyota is recalling approximately 130,000 2014 Toyota Tundra CrewMax Cab and Double Cab trucks in the U.S. because a trim piece could interfere with the deployment of the side curtain airbags, the automaker said on Thursday.

"In the involved vehicles, due to the possible misinstallation of a garnish on the center pillars, the garnish could interfere with the side curtain airbags in the event of a deployment, which may not allow the airbag to achieve its intended inflated shape," the automaker said in a statement posted on its Web site.

Toyota said it is not aware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities linked to the recall.

Dealers will inspect the center pillar garnishes. If either is not installed correctly, it will be replaced with a new one.

A date has not been specified for the recall. Owners can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.

Edmunds says: Toyota said owners of these trucks will receive a formal recall notification in the mail soon. If you have any immediate concerns, it's best to contact your dealer.
