AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Fiat-Chrysler US is recalling 75,364 2015 Jeep Cherokee SUVs because of a fire risk, the automaker said on Tuesday.
"The company discovered air-conditioning lines on some vehicles may have been installed in close proximity to their engines' exhaust manifolds," Fiat-Chrysler said in a statement. "Under certain operating conditions, this may pose a fire risk."
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received two customer complaints involving smoke and fire. Fiat-Chrysler then launched an investigation into the complaints.
Fiat-Chrysler said it is not aware of any injuries or accidents linked to the recall.
Jeep dealers will inspect and replace the air-conditioning lines, if necessary. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Fiat-Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.
No information about the recall has been posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.
Edmunds says: Owners who notice air-conditioning loss or any other concern, such as a dashboard warning light, should contact their Jeep dealers now. Others should wait for their official recall notice and then schedule a service appointment.
