2016 Lexus NX 200t Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The carryover 2016 Lexus NX 200t compact SUV earned the highest five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Lexus dealerships, the NX 200t received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the NX 200t.

The 2016 Lexus NX 300h hybrid SUV received the same scores from NHTSA.

Standard safety equipment on the NX models includes eight airbags, antilock brakes, traction control and vehicle stability control. Whiplash injury-lessening seats are standard for front-seat passengers.

Optional safety equipment includes lane-departure alert and a pre-collision safety system.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2016 NX vehicles, but the 2015 Lexus NX 200t is a 2015 Top Safety Pick+. The SUV scored "good" ratings in all Institute crash tests.

Key competitors to the Lexus NX 200t include the Acura RDX, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 Acura RDX and Volvo XC60 also earned the highest five-star safety rating from NHTSA. The 2016 Audi Q5 earned a four-star overall safety rating.
