Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis Recalled for Lighting Problem

DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is recalling 312,814 2003-'05 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis sedans in North America because of a lighting control module problem, the automaker said on Tuesday.

"The solder joints on the module could crack and interrupt power to the headlamps, increasing the risk of a crash at night," Ford said in a statement.

Ford is aware of 11 accidents and one minor injury linked to the recall.

The affected vehicles were built from October 3, 2001 through August 2, 2005.

Ford dealers will replace the lighting control module. The recall is expected to begin the week of January 18. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673.

For customers who experience inoperative headlights, parts are currently available through Ford's customer satisfaction program 14N01, the automaker told Edmunds.

No information about the recall has been posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the United States.

Edmunds says: This is probably bigger news for the country's taxi industry, but nevertheless, owners of older Crown Vics and Grand Marquis should be weary of their headlights.
