Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer, the start of the summer car-selling season, and a big three-day sales event for many dealerships. What does this mean for you? Well, if you play your cards right, Memorial Day weekend can be a good time to get a great deal.

To help you make sense of all the new-car offers, we've picked out a group of vehicles that are not only likely to see the biggest discounts this month but also have enough inventory that you'll actually be able to find one. This year, interest rates are favorable, as a number of automakers are offering 0% financing, which might be worth considering even if you're already in a car loan. Some of these offers may even get better if you can apply additional bonus cash offers, military appreciation offers or recent college grad specials. Edmunds experts say: The GMC Sierra is comfortable and can be equipped with a rambunctious 6.2-liter V8. If you're looking for the best interpretation of the GM family of trucks, the Sierra could be it. Be aware that the available trick tailgate is a neat option but can't be fully utilized if you leave a trailer hitch in place.

Edmunds experts say: The redesigned Kia Soul has a lot going for it. Its boxy shape gives it a seriously roomy passenger cabin and tons of cargo space. It's also quite fun to drive, with above-average handling abilities and an intuitive CVT automatic, and features Kia's intuitive infotainment system.

Edmunds experts say: The Chevrolet Equinox comes with great infotainment features, decent cargo space and comfortable seats, although the base engine is on the slow side and the looks aren't for everyone. Be aware that if you want a full suite of driver aids, you'll need to look at higher trim levels.

Edmunds experts say: If you need something with a roomy cabin and ample utility, the Nissan Rogue does the job. It also scores well for cabin comfort, seat comfort and a quiet interior. Its driver assist and safety features are also innovative. The Rogue's not as refined on the road as top competitors, though.

Edmunds experts say: The current generation Grand Cherokee has been on sale for nearly 10 years. Normally, that would be cause for concern, but Jeep has done an admirable job of keeping this well-known SUV fresh. With a range of powerful motors and capable off-road trim levels, the Grand Cherokee can be customized to meet most buyers' needs.
