Top 11 Most Fuel-Efficient Trucks for 2013

In the pantheon of automotive cargo-friendly features, none comes close to topping a truck's pickup bed with regard to sheer, tote-anything utility. This bed ensures that a truck is equipped to meet all cargo-hauling challenges, whether you're transporting materials for a do-it-yourself home improvement project, or a new couch to spruce up your living room décor.

Certain trucks also offer the added benefit of relative fuel efficiency . The 11 pickup trucks shown below get the best mileage of all the trucks on the market. (Our list is longer than the usual 10 due to ties.) Hybrids have been making inroads across a variety of vehicle segments and the truck category is no exception. Our list this year includes hybrid versions of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the GMC Sierra 1500, in addition to fuel-efficient gas-only models like the Honda Ridgeline , Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma .

Our rankings are based on Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) miles-per-gallon ratings for city and highway travel. Each vehicle's placement on the list is determined by its combined fuel economy rating. We used the EPA's combined fuel economy formula: 55 percent of city mpg rating plus 45 percent of highway mpg rating.
