Top 12 Most Fuel-Efficient Coupes for 2015

Coupes exude a youthful, freewheeling spirit that's hard to resist. Many boast the sort of impeccable styling that turns heads, and there are several picks that excel when it comes to performance. It's no stretch to say that the coupe segment is home to some of the sportiest and most attractive models in the automotive kingdom.

Several coupes add to their appeal by including strong fuel economy in the mix. The 12 picks that follow (our list is longer than the usual 10 due to ties) are the most fuel-efficient coupes for 2015. Each model is allowed just one appearance on our list, for its most fuel-efficient powertrain,

Our choices include two-door versions of the best-selling Honda Civic, Kia Forte and Honda Accord. For something more luxurious, there are picks such as the BMW 2 Series and the recently launched Alfa Romeo 4C. And there's a tried-and true-pony car included in our selection: the venerable Ford Mustang.

Note that electric vehicles are excluded from this list. Limited range and a lack of charging stations make these cars impractical for many drivers. Most buyers aren't likely to cross-shop them with the models listed below.

Each vehicle's placement on our list is determined by its Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) combined fuel economy rating. The EPA's combined fuel economy rating is based on miles-per-gallon ratings for city and highway travel, using the following formula: 55 percent of city mpg rating plus 45 percent of highway mpg rating.
