Top 4 "Most American" Minivans for 2015

To help shoppers who want to buy American, Edmunds has compiled a list of the four minivans with the highest percentage of U.S./Canadian content. Our rankings are based on information reported by carmakers to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under the American Automobile Labeling Act (AALA). Two full-size vans that led previous years' lists for their U.S./Canadian content — the Chevrolet Express 1500 and GMC Savana 1500 vans — are no longer available. The other vehicles in the Express and Savana lineups exceed the AALA's 8,500-pound weight limit and are not included in the 2015 AALA list.

In addition to showing the percentage of domestic content, there's also information regarding the country in which the van was assembled, the source of its engine and the source of its transmission. The AALA reports information for carmaker lines, and some manufacturers do not split out specific models in their reporting. For that reason, the source of the transmission and engine may vary, depending on the van's configuration. For more detail, consult the full AALA list.

For a quick confirmation of where a vehicle was finally assembled, look at the first digit of the minivan's vehicle identification number (VIN). If it's a 1, 2 or 5, the car was assembled in the U.S.

Also included for each van or minivan is its score from the 2015 Kogod Made in America Auto Index, which looks not only at parts and assembly information but also at such factors as where a model's research and development took place, where a carmaker made capital investments and where the profits from the vehicle go. The Kogod index is scored on a 100-point scale.
