The Silverado 1500 is the cornerstone of Chevy’s truck program. As a workhorse, family hauler and weekend fun enabler, the Silverado 1500 offers a diverse lineup that makes it a wildly popular pickup. Available in nine trim levels and a massive combination of cab, bed and drive configurations, there’s a Silverado for everyone. Four powertrains are available, including a turbocharged four-cylinder, two V8s, and a turbodiesel six with outputs ranging from 305 horsepower to 420 horsepower.
Edmunds spotlight: More of the same for 2026
The last time the Silverado 1500 was all-new was way back in 2019, so it’s certainly time for a redesign. But we don’t see that happening for another year. So far there’s not even a single spy photo of the next-generation truck upon which to base speculation. On the powertrain front, rumors of a new plug-in hybrid variant run rampant, but that, we think, will require a redesign to accommodate hybrid system packaging. We expect the new Silverado 1500 to debut as a 2027 model with a plug-in hybrid powertrain as an option.
Competitors to consider
We don’t need to tell you to have a look at the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 pickups as the Silverado’s primary competitors. Of course, if you want a variant of the same flavor there’s the GMC Sierra 1500, which is mechanically identical to the Silverado. If an EV pickup is in the cards, you should also consider the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevy Silverado EV or the slightly smaller Rivian R1T. Tesla’s Cybertruck is also in the mix if you're looking for an out-of-the-box alternative that can still do truck stuff.
