by zee2045 on 06/09/2016I have had good, personalized service for years at Subaru Santa Cruz on my 1996 and 2002 Subarus and more recently with our newer 2010 Kia Sportage The service dept. is always accommodating with appointment times since I was driving… over the hill from San Jose and offered a 10 % discount. I have faith in the 2 mechanics usually servicing my cars. Both Earl and Allen are honest and upfront when there is a problem. The service dept. staff is personable, from the receptionist, appointment advisors to the service managers (both Mark, the past manager now at Mazda, and the current manager, Kathy, run a professional dept). While waiting for service they always offered rides somewhere. This last visit I left my cell phone in my car and a driver brought it to me so I could call for a pick up and they could update me on the progress of my repair. . This recent service visit for my Kia was such a relief. I was afraid to drive over the hill. At a service station in SJ their mechanic said I needed new brakes. This advisor told me I did not need new brakes. The major reason for coming for a repair is I heard a whining noise bothering me that turned out to be the AC compressor and pulley. The mechanic diagnosed the problem, sent out for the parts, repaired and had me on the road the same day.:) They also checked for any recalls--none. Offered a loaner car if needed, I recommend them for repairs on Subarus and now for the Kia Sportage.Buying Experience with Subaru of Santa Cruz
by nancydecaro on 11/26/2014Buying Experience with Subaru of Santa Cruz As someone who has worked doing research as a professional, researching all relevant facts as they apply to my needs before a vehicle purchase comes naturally to me. By the time I make a… purchase, I usually have enough information as to the vehicle, its availability, and what constitutes a realistic best price. I was initially considering a Mazda 3s, based on good reviews and exceptional gas mileage, but most of all to please my wife.:-) But pleasing my wife is what I did last time when we bought two new his-and-hers Mazda 6's. Prior to that, I was a sports car fan who owned everything from a couple of new Corvettes to two Porsche 911 Turbos, and lots with head-snapping performances in between. My wife and I visited Subaru of Santa Cruz in California and there was a 2015 loaded Subaru BRZ Limited in the showroom. Coming home, I went to work to get as much information as possible on the vehicle, all of which told me that this car would put a little driving fun back into my life, while satisfying my wife's desire to remain economical. I spent the next week negotiating prices for such a vehicle, as it was available, with dealerships within 50 miles of my home. At Subaru of Santa Cruz, which had the car I wanted--right color, equipment and all, in stock--I dealt directly with Jeffrey A. Filiault, the Internet Director for Santa Cruz Subaru-Mazda-Kia. His initial offer was the lowest I had received by that time from six other dealers, but I thought I could do better. Sure enough, I located a vehicle for a lower price which was on order, scheduled to arrive in December. The advantage was the better price; the disadvantage two times the distance from my home, not the color I wanted, and waiting until December. I re-contacted Jeffrey of Subaru of Santa Cruz and told him about the lower price offer to give him the opportunity for a price match. Our e-mail exchanges were courteous, as were all follow-up phone calls. Based on the fact that he only had one vehicle of that model in stock, while other dealers had none, he made it clear that it would require the command decision of the powers-that-be to agree to my lowball price offer. Jeff admitted that he used some of the arguments that I made to him to persuade the head of the dealership to agree with my price, which they did. From that point on, the buying experience became effortless. My wife and I showed up at the dealership, were guided to Jeffrey's office without delay, and were received by a friendly, efficient individual who had everything already prepared to finalize the sale. The car was detailed out, ready to go, and Evan, an individual specially trained to familiarize new buyers with all the gadgetry in new vehicles, spent 30 minutes explaining everything to my wife and I, while answering questions. I retained at least 50% of what was said. However, my wife, with the memory wives normally reserve for their husband's follies, probably remembered 75%.:-) The rest was a cinch to look up after we got home without the manual on a cheat sheet. That was the end of the sales experience. No sales pressure, rational discussions as to the car and price, and a friendly and efficient handling of the transaction once everything was agreed upon. Most importantly, no small print or other surprises, as I have experienced with other dealers when it was time to sign the papers. Jeffrey called me four days later to check if everything about the car was making me happy, if there was anything the dealership could do to answer any questions, including coming in and having the intricacies of what was unique about the car explained again by their expert, Evan. No wonder I never hear any of the locals say one critical word about that dealership, despite the fact that car dealers and car dealerships are normally ranked below lawyers when it comes to satisfaction. :-) Thank you, Jeffrey, and thank you, Subaru of Santa Cruz.Great service
by tubadave on 02/17/2008Subaru of Santa Cruz is great! They worked with Subaru corporate to reduce the out-of-warranty cost of my repair by over $2000. To be fair early Foresters have a flaw in the head gasket design and they tend to blow out frequently as mine… did at 108,000. The Subaru warranty covers up to 100,000 mi. The dealer worked with Subaru to cover nearly all of the cost of a head gasket replacement even though the car was out-of-warranty. They have done other work on my car and have always been accomodating and professional.
