Sold a bill of goods
by KL on 05/28/2024We went to BMW SF to buy an X1 that they listed. But when we went out to the lot, it was tucked away in back and had a 3-foot crack in the windshield. The sales guy said no worries, sometimes the bums living around the dealership throw… rocks at the cars. He would have it fixed the next day and the car is under warranty (only 15K miles on car), so no worries. Unfortunately, it is a black car and it turned dark because it took them 45 mins to "clean up the car" and bring it up to the front of the lot. So, when we were looking around the car when they brought it up front, we did not notice there had been body work on one of the doors and quarter panels. It was not until we had it in sun light you could see the difference in the paint and they left off door guard all the other doors have. I won't get into all the other misrepresentations the sales rep and sales manager made about the history of the car or how they would compensate us during the two hour "let me ask my manager" BS. Bottomline, these guys are the bottom of the barrel used car guys and you should stay away. They definitely do not represent the BMW brand experience I have had (have owned 3, 5, 7 and X series).Rude, Disturbing Behavior, Not Enough Transparency
by NicholasM on 01/06/2024WARNING: STAY FAR AWAY. They are not men of their word. They will tell you what you want to hear but their actions don't match the superficial rhetoric. I contacted BMW SF about a used Mercedes with some 92K on the odometer. It took… several attempts to Dinu Cotoros to send the walk around video. His excuse for delay was that it was raining. No follow up. So I had to babysit him. There wasn’t much service history to go by and getting information had proven elusive. I became suspicious. I had read the reviews online but decided to give them an opportunity nonetheless. During my many phone calls, I experienced rude behavior from the staff, including being cut off, hung up on, and not receiving any callbacks. Larry (2nd & 3rd Call) was particularly confrontational and had a short attention span. I had to repeat my concerns several times. He could not exercise the common sense to write anything down. On Call 4, I reached Carl Chenault who at least had an acceptable temperament and the wherewithal to hold a conversation together but not anymore trustworthy based on the behavior of BMW SF prior. He stated any inspection would have to take place on site. Additionally, he refused to disclose the dealer fees unless I filled out the credit application. Carl dodged my question should the dealership fumble the DMV registration. I read how other customers had this issue. He then stated that I should buy from a dealer if I did not trust them. Charming... The saga continued when I did not immediately move forward. Enter Rod Helaire. I received a text from Rod Helaire, sales manager (one of many) who's evidently not in the apology business when I informed him of his sales staff's behavior. I texted Rod about additional info and was ignored. When I pressed him he decided it was best not to do business and cut off any further discussion. Overall, my experience with BMW of San Francisco was abysmal and I can’t think of a worse experience in 20 years of car buying. The central issue with BMW SF is one of trust and a pattern of deception. There is clearly no integrity with this dealer. BMW SF was given multiple opportunities to earn by business by being transparent and they failed miserable. Don't think for a moment they are a customer centric. It's a ruse. BMW San Francisco Rating at BBB: D- which speaks volumes.
