Two cars were purchased, both had aesthetic damage, & was bribed when wanti
by chelseam on 09/02/2008My boyfriend & I both bought cars (two cars) from Subaru Shaver Automotive in Thousand Oaks, Ca. When purchasing the vehicles we were pressured to write good things about the company when we received surveys in the mail from the… manufacturer, Subaru of America. When everything was signed and finished it was late at night and did not go over the cars. The following days after, we noticed both cars had scratches and a dent on them. Which the General Manager Christian replied " We have already spent too much time on you...". We decided to contact Andrew Shaver (unknown position) about our issue. We went back and forth through emails discussing the resolution. Finally, Andrew Shaver came to us with a "solution" to our problem. In order for him to fix our cars, we would have to take off ANY disparaging comments on the internet/websites, and fill out the survey's from Subaru of America as "completely satisfied". (Which I was told by Subaru of America that the customer is not to be pressured in any way with the surveys.) We finally agreed via telephone that we would take the comments off the websites, but leave the survey's up to our discretion. We both agreed for Andrew Shaver to fax over a "Release of Liability" form with what we had spoken of over the phone, but when we received the Release of Liability form it stated that if we did not take off the comments on the internet, we would then be charged $2500.00 per occurrence after October 1st, 2008.AVOID THIS DEALERSHIP!
by am1awmak on 06/03/2008Shaver Subaru is a new Subaru dealership and most of it's staff is not proficient with the brand. When I purchased my vehicle, I signed a contract that the new car being delivered to me would have 18 miles. I returned a day later to take… delivery of my new car, only to find a car with scratches, dents and 168 miles on the odometer! Clearly a violation of contract with the mileage, even though I emphasized to the finance person to make sure that the odometer reading was correct on the vehicle. I emphasized to him that I would not sign for a new car with so many miles on it (the first contract written had 180 miles on it). They lied about the car's mileage knowing that I would not buy it with 168 miles on the odometer already. I was promised by the salesman that he would take care of it. After leaving the dealership, the tire pressure monitor warning light came on minutes after driving off, I had to spend another two hours in the dealership because they failed to properly recalibrate the system after filling up the tires with nitrogen. The service ticket showed 179 miles on the odometer, but a week later I received another service ticket which shows 80 miles on the odometer, like someone is trying to cover something. To compound the problem, the dealership needed proof of residence a week later, which I told them would take a while since I just moved to my new address. I received harrassing phone calls for a few days. The last phone call from the salesman left me with two options, to return the car or provide proof of residence (which I would not be able to get immediately anyway). So I returned to the dealership to return the car. The finance manager was telling to forge one and have a neighbor sign it! I was threatened with legal action and they ended up using the envelope with the second service ticket as proof of residence. And there is still no answer as to why they violated contract and why the "new car" had defects and mileage. ALL THEY HAVE IS EXCUSES,DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS DEALERSHIP.Horrible Experiences
by btallent on 03/11/2008I have purchased two Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle form this dealer over the last decade. Their sales department is good, but service is an extreme ripoff! The Service Advisors want to continuously sell you needless services under the guise… of "maintaining your warranty". I hate arguing with these guys and I always get billed double (or more) than the estimated work. Case in point: I had recently taken my 2003 Grand Cherokee in for a LOF and a problem with an occasional low idle stall. That was Saturday. The service estimate was $350 (kind of high). Three days later -- service is still not completed and the bill has swelled to $1100! Unfortunately I have to pay it because I need the vehicle. Notwithstanding, I guarantee I will never, never go back there again and will not ever purchase another Jeep vehicle. I have had it.Horrible online service
by j_nay_765 on 11/05/2007I was looking to buy a new car this past week. I was filling out paper work, but I had a bad experience (at Shaver Auto in San Bernardino) and walked away from the deal. I decided to utilize online price quotes. Mitch Mayenschein from… Shaver Auto in Thousand Oaks contacted me and said that my email price quote request had been sent to him, and he would love to do anything he could to earn my business. He asked if I would come in to meet with him. I sent him an email back telling him the exact year, make and model I wanted, and what color I wanted it in (Inferno Red). I asked if they had one on the lot, and if he could give me a price quote. He said they had a nice black one with leather interior he would love to show me, and asked when I could come in. I sent an email back saying that I was looking for Red like I told him in my previous email, and unless he could make me an offer on the black that I couldn't refuse, I would be going elsewhere. These are the next few emails that followed: [violative contente deleted] wrote: hey.. thanks for the reply.. where do you live and when are you wanting to do you want to buy the new car?? Mitch [violative contente deleted]> wrote: Mitch, Why will you not answer me directly with a price quote? [violative contente deleted]>wrote: Mitch, Am I to understand that you don't want my business? I did not receive an answer to my question of the price quote. Please provide ASAP or I will need to go with another dealership. [violative contente deleted] wrote: hey.. Its not that I don't want your business... I have worked here almost 2 years and I love the Jeep product... But I also dont have the Jeep you are looking for at this point... We are at the end of the year, and the new 2008's are in.....I would love for you to come in and meet me and my managers.. This is a family owned and operated dealership, and I will do as much as I can to earn your business... Mitch [violative contente deleted]>wrote: Thanks anyway. I do not want a 2008. If you happen to see the one I want, please let me know. Thanks [violative contente deleted] wrote: Ya It sounds liek I can't help you... Price via emails is all you are trying to get....and that usually does not selll cars...And even if i did have the car i don't see the point in giving you a price.... If you want to call my cell and set up an appointment that would be great... [violative contente deleted]....but you sound like you are just shopping. And if you got a good price why did u not buy it?? mitch ********************************************************************************************************* Needless to say, after that last email, I was done dealing with Mitch. I think he was rude and unprofessional. To tell me he doesn't "see the point in giving me a price quote" just sent me to another dealer who did see the point!Shaver is Top Notch
by JeepGuy34 on 04/07/2014updated 04/25/2025Extremely informative and knowledge about the vehicle and specs. Worked hard to get me to the Jeep I wanted, in the price I needed. Ask for Jim O. He was great.Computer Reset / Fuse
by hollister1987w on 05/01/2014updated 04/25/2025Took my 2005 Dodge Stratus, mind yourself I did not buy this car from this dealership. I was having issues with the car locks not working and other electrical problems. I had other dealerships look at the car with no results. I called and… spoke with John - Service department, not only did he get back to me in a timely manner but explained the process of what he would need to do. John had a top service electrician look at the car also not only was I treated as if I had just bought the car there yesterday they went over and beyond. I also had my key less entry reprogrammed for me the car was clean and ready for pick up when I was told it would be everything I was worried/ stressed about was resolved. Its been awhile sense I have received such impeccable service and John made sure that was all possible. I strongly recommend Shaver Dodge and ask to speak with John Ext 153 if you have any questions what so ever. Thank you John and Shaver Dodge. This is the only place I will be going for any further issues I may have with my car =)Very Positive Experience
by alias2 on 12/26/2013updated 04/25/2025Had a tremendous new car buying experience w/Shaver and specifically my sales rep Evo. by kt01 on 01/08/2011updated 04/25/2025Excellent buying experience. These guys respond to your needs, questions and concerns. In contrast to some other dealerships I dealt with in the process of finding the rigth car for me, Shaver Subaru took the clear lead. And they delivered… the car to my doorstep. Nice work Ryan!process, Shave Subaru was respnsive, always friendly and never pushy.Unprofessional
by savoy1211 on 02/13/2011updated 04/25/2025Worst experience ever...Sales manager, Tyler, was horribly rude and unprofessional, despite the fact that I had purchased several vehicles. Tyler threw a tantrum and went so far as to make personal attacks and belittling comments in… response to my dissatisfaction with the deal. Car buying can involve aggressive negotiations, however Tyler displayed inappropriate, disrespectful behavior which should not be tolerated by any employer. The owner Andy has failed to contact me or address the situation. It appears that this dealership is a "boys club" where they foster flippant, unethical behavior. I will NEVER do business with Shaver ever again and will strive to ensure that none of my friends nor family give their hard, earned money to people that behave in such despicable ways. Overall, a terrible experience devoid of customer service.Good experience
by asteinberg on 01/28/2012updated 04/25/2025Andrew was great, responsive, informed. Good price. But my wife decided she did not want to go the SUV route. Great value.Best Dealership in town
by chrisff on 01/25/2014updated 04/25/2025I have purchased or leased at least 5 cars from Shaver. I keep going back because they are an honest down to earth organization. Chris Shaver is an old school owner who does it the right way. Five stars to this group.
About our dealership
Please read the first review to make sense of this one. After over a month of trying to find answers as to why I was sold a "new" car with defects and mileage, the owner of the dealership finally contacted me. And today, June 23, 2008, after another 24 mile trip to the dealership and dropping the car off at service to have some of the issues fixed, I sat down with him to finally find a way to resolve the issues. He agreed to re-negotiate the price of the car and deliver everything that was initially negotiated The staff of this dealership should consider themselves lucky to have a boss who actually cares about his customers and his business' reputation so that his employees can have a job to come into everyday.
