Customer Service... Why Bother
by msb1235 on 09/11/2013updated 04/24/2025I went in looking at a used minivan that had everything I was looking for in a family vehicle. In addition I was ready to buy a new BRZ for myself, but I was going to use the Subaru "VIP" pricing which is similar to employee pricing.… Finally a co-worker of mine wanted to use his VIP as well on a Forester. I can only assume Kevin does not want to be involved with VIP sales as they are at invoice and sometimes below meaning his commission would be limited, but there would be meat on the used vehicle sale so I don't understand. I called him 4 times asking for information and pricing I was entitled to through the program and was ignored. While I was siting at his desk he disappeared twice saying he was getting pricing and leaving me siting for about 15 min. What he didn't see was I got up the first time after about 10 min and stood on the other side of a vehicle in the showroom and heard him and the sales manager BSing. The 2nd time he left I waited less than 5 and same thing so I said, Kevin excuse me. Can you get the pricing now or should I call back later? The sales manager perked up and Kevin said, oh he is using the VIP program on a Forester and BRZ. The manager asked what my name was and went to look through the notices from Subaru but didn't find one for me which was understandable as I had just requested a few hours earlier and it takes up to a day, but I printed out the program guidelines and handed them over. You get the point... I don't want to waste any more time writing on this dealership.Rob G. is an expert Subaru consultant
by Flecher on 02/19/2014updated 04/24/2025I was in the market for a newer car that would give me good mileage and be highly rated for safety. I planned on buying a certified pre-owned car because of the huge depreciation in the first few years. My daughter and son-in-law had bought… a Subaru a year ago at Napleton Subaru in Schaumburg. Rob G. was their sales consultant and he came highly recommended from other family members and friends as well who had also purchased various models of Subaru. I did my own research and decided to follow their advice and buy a Subaru, however I bought a new Subaru Forester because the depreciation on a certified pre-owned was actually minimal even with 30,000 miles on the odometer. I chose the Forester a specific color and the premium package but equipped with the navigator GPS. The problem was the production on the 2014 models had just ended and the only 2014s available were in dealer's stock. Rob Goldberg worked wonders and located only one car in the entire mid-west with my special requirements but it was already committed to another dealer. It took some negotiating but Rob G. managed to work a deal and within days I received my car. Rob G. promised that he would get me that car even if he had to go get it himself. Rob Go., my Sales-Consultant, did an excellent job of fulfilling my needs, I can understand why several in our family and friends that had purchased a Subaru recommended him highly. He will walk you through every step with clear understanding and because he is so knowledgeable he can explain every function on every Subaru model and help you select what is right for you. Because he has sold a Subaru to so many of our family and friends that we consider him part of our Subaru family.Thank you for the kind words and enjoy your car!
Napleton doesn't honor their own coupons!
by funnotc02 on 03/15/2011updated 04/24/2025I received a letter from Subaru that congratulates me on the purchase of my new 2011 WRX STI and for being a valued customer I will receive a $9.95 oil and filter change. I took the car to the Napleton's Schaumburg Subaru dealership where I… purchased the car and set up a oil change appointment. They then told me that the cost of the o...il change would be $62 I said no the letter states that it should cost $9.95. They said that synthetic oil is not included. The letter has no disclaimer stating that this is the case. On the contrary it says that my car by name is eligible for this price oil change. I will no longer be going to Napleton's Schaumburg Subaru for any of my needs. I recommend no one buys a car or goes to Napleton Subaru for their service need. Wish no stars was an option!Suspect Behavior
by pinebear2 on 04/27/2011updated 04/24/2025I have been interested in the Subaru Forester for over a year now. I decided to start test-driving different models to get a feel for what I really wanted. I was already aware that the Napleton Subaru is known for participating in unethical… behavior and intentionally lying to their customers. However, I went against my instinct and decided to test-drive a car there. The salesman seemed uninterested in my questions and would blatanly lie about the car's price ("We only have a 6 percent give on price") and about the warranty ("We offer a 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty"). Now, everything seemed to be falling apart when we arrived back at the dealer. I asked for the copy of my license back and they said it was lost? Next I told the salesperson I didn't have time to talk numbers and I wasn't interested in buying from them, but he literally begged me to stay, and so I told him I'd only stay for 10 minutes. After about 2 minutes he comes back with four sheets of paper and, suprisingly, the copy of my license. I began feeling a little cheated so I told him he had 5 minutes until I was going to leave. He suddenly picks up the phone, without it ringing, and says (I am not lying) "Yea, I have him right here. Ok. Ok. Alright. Thanks. We will give you the Subaru 2.5X Premium with the options you wanted, a 27,800 value, for 23,000." I was shocked! Whatever happened to a 6% give on price and that's all? So I looked at the number he wrote down and laughed. I started getting up to leave and he begs me to stay again and hands me 4 sheets of paper. I sit down and begin to read the sheets of paper that had "500 instant rebate on price" written across the top. The "rebate" explained nothing about what it was for and had a signature line across the bottom. I asked the salesperson what this was for. He claimed that the rebate was a "secret offer" they are giving to their special customers. I was not a "special customer" I have never gone to this dealership before. I began looking at the papers and they all had different VIN numbers on them. The salesperson told me that if I signed these they were each worth $500 of my car's price. So now I'm down to 21,000 on a 27,800. The only problem was that these rebates were contracts that stated the person who signs them must log on to this website among several others and give them a perfect score! I was amazed. I would have to lie to other people looking for an honest dealer because they are already being reviewed as dishonest people! I couldnt believe it! I stood up shook my head (said some other things about how that's the exact reason why I was trying to avoid using their dealership) and walked out. The whole way home I felt a little violated. As if they tried to make me an accomplice to their lying cheating and stealing, the only difference was I am not willing to take a payment for lying to my fellow Subaru enthusiasts and I will never stoop to the level of unethical behavior that dealership does on a daily basis. Avoid these people at all costs, and remember if its too good to be true...someone's getting hurt.JONATHON PROANA, ROCCO MINNINI AND SCHAUMBURG SUBARU
by acbuchanan24 on 02/21/2011updated 04/24/2025Jonathon Proano sold me a car that broke down ten minutes out of the dealership!!! I drove 2 hours to get there but it was 20 minutes before closing. I was rushed lied to and deceived about the vehicles condition...OBVIOUSLY the thing brok… down ten minutes after i left in the middle of a busy street near Chicago. I later learned the car needed an alternator, they made me paid for it after saying it was on the house and it has failed again.. Its been a week so far and i drove the car a total 3 hours! It also has no rear turn signals(electrical, not bulbs), needs pulleys, already replaced belts, no radio, needs rear SAM.. thats what I know so far over 1000 in repairs needed just to get it going. by shopper43 on 08/26/2013updated 04/24/2025My salesman was Jonathan P. and I have to say he was great to work with. Jonathan was very accommodating and patient. He answered all my questions and concerns without ever once being pushy or condescending, as many car salesmen can be. He… was also very responsive to my emails and calls. He was a pleasure to work with these past few months and I will be happy to recommend him to anyone. He is an asset to this dealership. I am female and have done all my car shopping by myself, visiting many different dealerships. I am happy to say I did not have the experience that another lady in July had. At no point in the shopping process was I asked if I could afford the car, and I did not use the dealership financing. I had my older car serviced by the Napleton family for many years when they owned a Dodge/Plymouth dealership in Schaumburg. I was very happy with their service then and hope I will experience the same satisfaction with the maintenance of my new car here.Rob.. Sales Consultant of Napleton Subaru
by unclejarvis on 12/13/2013updated 04/24/2025Rob was a great guy to work with on getting my second Subaru. My first car was a WRX and he was very accommodating and answered all my questions that I had. Later on I decided to get a STi but none were in stock. Rob helped locate one for… me and was very prompt and professional in meeting my requests for what I was looking for. Overall great, friendly guy. Will go to him for my 3rd SubieGreat Experience
by mequonite on 05/14/2013updated 04/24/2025We drove over 100 miles from WI to work with salesman Rob G. We had received an excellent e price for a new Subaru Outback. It was worth the drive. Rob was not high pressure but spent a lot of time with us discussing the various options… etc. The price (which was more than $1,000 less than any WI dealer offered) was great. There was no question that they honored the price they gave me over the internet. We couldn't have asked for a better no-haggle experience. I would definitely buy from Rob the next time I wanted to buy a Subaru! He also answered many of my questions over the internet before we decided to make the trip to Schaumberg.Thank you and enjoy the car!

by wava on 04/14/2011updated 04/24/2025Twice I have requested an "eprice" using the web sites form. The response I've gotten is -no price. they respond by trying to get me to come in. I was specific when I emailed for the price saying I did not want to be contacted by phone. The… number I gave does not have an answering machine and so I don't know if they tried to call. I hope not, I hate when you want it in print and they want to "tell you". I still have not gotten the pricing. Appears they don't want to put it in writing.Don't even bother!
by citygirlcyndi on 07/05/2013updated 04/24/2025I called to get a quote for a new car. I was told I would have to come in and "prove" I could afford to buy a car. I was made to feel like because I am a woman that I wouldn't be able to buy the car and that I wasn't worth his time. Luckily… the other area Subaru dealers did not feel the same way.Hi Cyndi, I'm very sorry to hear about this experience and want you to know it is no way the manner which we want to conduct business at our dealership. I would like to hear more about the experience so I can look into it further. Please contact me at the dealership's number, listed on www.napletonschaumburgsubaru.com, and my direct extension is 342. by Shelly_H on 05/15/2013updated 04/24/2025We tend to hang on to our cars for a long time so the anticipation of buying a new car causes us some anxiety. We did some online work and made several online inquiries with local dealerships and Rob Goldman earned our visit. Rob is… easy-going and professional and for us, Rob put us at ease immediately. We had already decided on purchasing a 2013 Outback so it was just a matter of Rob helping us pick out the best car at the best price. Because of work schedules, we arrived at the dealer ship later on a Saturday afternoon and realized at the conclusion of our purchase that the dealership had actually closed. We never felt pressured or hurried. Rob took the time to show us all the features and he even synced our phone to the bluetooth before we left! We were very happy with our purchase and experience.[non-permissible content removed], wasted my time
by ProspCarBuyer on 02/17/2014updated 04/24/2025I'm AMAZED that this place still stays in business given the way they treat their current and prospective customers. This dealership was extremely rude to me, kept me waiting around constantly, acted very disgruntled with my requests and I… am ASTONISHED by their scammy business practices. DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM. Let me start off by saying this isn't my first time buying a car and I understand how the typical smooth operator salesmen work. They give you a price, then try to charge extra fees (used car inspection fee, listing fee, marketing fee, advanced detailing fees) until you finally settle on an out-the-door price. Some of the fees are fluff, and others are required and non-negotiable e.g. title/registration fees. It's fine, I get it--it comes with the territory. With that understanding going in, as a car buyer, you need to stay focused and negotiate on the out-the-door price so you can cut through [non-permissible content removed]. Finally you get to a point, after much back and forth, where you agree on final price and it's time to put together the papers and sign them. And when I mean final price, I mean we've explicitly stated exactly the number you will be taking out of my bank account--exactly the number that I will be writing the check for with all fees considered. What I find ASTONISHING, is how even AFTER you've AGREED on a FINAL PRICE taking into account all the FEES, your salesman comes back and with a DIFFERENT number on the papers--DIFFERENT FROM THE PRICE YOU AGREED ON and expect you to not NOTICE and just sign it? Oh, well maybe the manager made a "mistake". Weird how that mistake ends up pushing the price higher huh? I am not going to deal with a business that engages in these nefarious and dishonest practices. I have zero tolerance for this [non-permissible content removed] and I hope others are made aware of this. Don't end up having your precious time wasted here.I'm sorry to hear about your experience. We pride ourselves on turning around situations like these and making them positive. Subaru Cross Trek
by jfm1 on 10/21/2013updated 04/24/2025Napleton's Subaru is a friendly, courteous and willing partner to make your car buying experience trouble free and enjoyable. Me and my wife just bought a cross trek from Rob, which by the way is a very nice and much recommended vehicle. We… plan to have it for many years and will enjoy every mile of driving. We broke it in with a trip to Galena this weekend and it was a joy to drive. Even though Subaru's sell themselves it's nice to know Napleton has such a wonderful bunch of people to interface with. by lelando04 on 04/12/2013updated 04/24/2025Buyer beware, once these guys cash your check, your car is as-is. After going back and forth for a week with them, Im stuck with a broken CD player that they sold me my car with. I couldve been a satisfied customer, but instead Im… writing this negative review because of their poor customer service. I recently purchased a used car from Napleton and thought that, having undergone a thorough 128-point union inspection (a $400 charge that Napleton is only too happy to pass on to you, the buyer), I assumed everything in the car was in working order. I even asked salesman Kevin what was wrong with the car, and he said only the fob needed to be reprogrammed (an issue which was resolved to my satisfaction). In all fairness, Kevin was very nice and no-pressure. I was upset, however, when I got home and found the CD player was broken. Apparently the $400 union inspection doesnt include playing a CD. I called Napleton to see if they could help me out with the CD player, as had I known it was busted when I bought the car, I wouldve asked for a couple hundred bucks off for a new one. Unfortunately, I was told the car was sold to me as-is, and it was my problem now. While I understand that, strictly speaking, this is the case, I was extremely disappointed that Napleton wouldnt go above and beyond to make me a satisfied customer. As it is, Im left feeling deceived by them and that they only are contributing to the slimy reputation car dealers have. If you see a car you like from them, CHECK IT OVER COMPLETELY yourself. If the engine falls out on the way home, you bought it as-is. I would not recommend them to any of my friends.Hello, I am sorry to hear about the problem with your CD player. We do have a policy that allows for some coverage of major components on used cars, which is good for cars newer than 7 years old, under 70,000 miles and sold for more than $7,000. It looks like perhaps your car did not fit one or more of the criteria. Even though the car was sold to you as-is and with no warranty, it does not mean we are not willing to try to assist you. We would be glad to provide any labor needed at our internal shop rate as well as discount the parts to our internal shop pricing as well. Feel free to reach out to me at the Subaru dealership, 847-884-6000, to see if we can help that way. Thank you, Chris Napleton
these guys are great
by dmett13 on 12/05/2013updated 04/24/2025My wife and I went to this dealership last weekend while we were in the area to test drive a car. We don't currently live in the area, and were very clear with them that we were just poking around, and probably wouldn't be buying from them… for at least another 6 months. Despite that, the sales guy we talked to, Tim P., was INCREDIBLY helpful, friendly, and super knowledgeable about the cars (not just subaru, either...he gave us very honest answers to questions about lots of other makes, too). He let us test drive a car, showed us all the different levels of Subaru Forresters, answered all of our questions, and we never felt rushed or pushed around in any way. He even let me try out our kids' carseats in the Forrester to see how they affect front seat positions. Over all it was a great experience. I NEVER write reviews for things like this...but I would highly recommend this guy if you're interested in a subaru...
I'm very sorry to hear about your experience. Subaru VIP transactions are just that, very important. I'm sorry the experience with Kevin was not satisfactory and would like to personally involve myself in your transaction to show you how we can do on the better side, as you've already seen what we do when we lose focus on taking care of the customer.
