    If your time matters to you and if you're looking for a dealership with a shred of integrity, steer clear of Olathe Subaru. I began working with Olathe Subaru over a month ago while simultaneously working with a Honda dealership. I was torn between a CR-V and a Forester 2.0XT Touring and since they're both great vehicles, it really came down to dollars and cents. Honda made me a lease offer three weeks ago I was happy with, so I told my sales guy, Ben Miller, that if they could match the deal, great, otherwise I'd be signing a lease with Honda. He asked if the Forester was worth $18 more per month, to which I said yes. I really enjoyed the Forester, it's a lot of fun to drive. So with a deal in place, I notified Honda that I was going to be working with Subaru and I walked away from the deal they offered. The Forester I was looking at had damage to the passenger door jam and interior of the door. I got two different stories, but what it boils down to is someone tried to break into it. I asked that the damage be repaired before I lease the vehicle, but I put a $500 deposit down to hold it. I received a call a week later that my car was ready and when I returned to pick it up and finalize paperwork, the damage was repaired to the door jam but none of the add-ons I'd requested had been installed, the passenger window hadn't been properly fixed and there were still scratches on the passenger door and hood. Phil, the sales manager, came out and went over stuff with me and I told him I didn't want to take the car until everything was done. When I brought up the remote start I'd asked to be installed, he made it sound like it would impact my monthly payments. I told him that was something that was originally requested and had been negotiated already into the price. He huffed about them already being $500 under invoice and that would put them $1000 under invoice, said "it's not even worth selling the car." I laughed to myself about that, math is fairly simple and they're still making plenty of money. He came back out of his office a few minutes later and agreed that it had been negotiated into the price we'd agreed on. So I left that day and returned last Friday, 9/29/17, to pick up my finished car. The scratches were still there, but all my add-ons were installed. The passenger window sounded fine now but the auto up-down didn't work. I was told I'd have to bring it in the following week to get a new motor put in. So I agreed to take it anyways because they'd told me they'd get me a loaner while they were fixing it. Here's where it gets really ugly - I sat at the dealership for an extended period of time while a lot of talking went on behind closed doors. Finally, the finance guy comes and gets me and we go back to his office. He informs me that they cannot honor the deal we'd agreed to, and that it would be an additional $61/mth more. He then said "it's not that much, let's do this." When I told him it was that much, he said "well what would you be willing to pay." Are you kidding? I told him I'd be willing to pay what had been agreed to. I was floored. I was basically speechless - I had walked away from a deal with Honda to accept this deal, missed out on a vehicle I liked, and now they're going to renege on our agreement? I spent a month working with these guys to buy a new vehicle and this is how they're going to treat me? I left the dealership that day very, very angry as one can imagine. Ben made excuses, tried to tell me that maybe his manager, Phil, had made a mistake with the numbers. That doesn't add up because he went over them with me when I was in there two weeks ago. I just really don't understand how this is considered an acceptable business practice. I still intend to buy a Subaru, but not from these guys. Even if I end up paying more somewhere else, the amount of time of mine these people wasted and the total lack of integrity or care for a customer has turned me off.

    Brad Murray was very professional and friendly. He answered all our questions and was very thorough when showing us the important items on the technology package. He gave us just the right amount of time to let us make a decision on buying the car. Also, Kevin, the sales manager and Chrissy, the director of finance were very professional and friendly. I would do business with three again. They made the car buying experience pleasant!

    I liked the ease of agreeing to the sale price of the vehicle. I did my research and knew what a fair price was for my 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. We quickly came to an agreement without the high pressure, sleeze and trickery I encountered at a competing dealership earlier the same day. Their dealings seem to be on the level. Further, I purchased some additional equipment and the installation service I received was great! The KC metro is a big place. I'm glad to know I will do business again with a dealership in my own neighborhood.

    I worked with Chrissy (via email) and Brad (in person) to look at new cars and though both were helpful. I really enjoyed working with Brad to look at options, test drive and purchase my vehicle. He was laid back, but pushy enough to keep me looking and was able to get me in a new vehicle within my price range.

    Our sales experience was very positive up to the financing process when we were confronted with a three part dealer warranty that consumer advocates warn you about. Few details, must decide on the spot and grave and examples of the worse that can happen if you turn down. This is a great car but dealership needs to rethink how to present their warrant/service options.

  • Almost fell for it

    My wife and I are thankful we didn't fall for this dealer's tricks. They almost conned us into paying $33,000 for a $26,000 Forester.
    • That is definately anywhere close to what happened. We dont sell cars for 7000 over value. First of all the banks wont allow it and second of all how would we stay in business? We rely 95 percent on our internet for business and if we did things like that we would have the reputation of the old dealership that was here. And I can promise you that we dont. I understand people get upset for one reason or another but to say something slanderous like this is uncalled for. We dont even have 33000 dollar Foresters on the lot most of the time.   • Not a very pleasant experience

    Went to this dealshipp a couple of time, both times talked to the Saleperson called Anthony, he was nice and but seems lack of knowledge about the Forester I was interested in. When we started talking about the price, he insisted in selling me for MSRP, after I showed him the TMV on Edmunds.com and he talked to his manager (David?), he brought me a piece of paper with TMV on Edmunds.com to sign, of course, I will not sign. I left and came back a couple of weeks later due to not-so-good-whether, this time, for the same car, after Anthony talked to the same manager, he present me with 2k more than the TMV we kind of agreed last time, at that point, I decided to leave, then came his manager coming to me shouting or speaking really loud (I am not sure which), he seems very arrogant and unrespectful, insisting the price was fair. When I pointing out he just gave me the price 2000 more than last time I was there, he claimed it never happened, or we were talking about a different car. I left and will NEVER EVER go back to this dealership.

    • Nothing could be further from the truth. The first time you came in you offered us 2000 less than what we said we would sell it for but you said you wouldnt buy that day. When you came back in 2 weeks later we were still at the number that we said we would sell it for the first time. You told us that we jacked up the price which isnt what happened. We pulled out your dealer worksheet showing you the numbers we were at and you got irate and called us liars. We dont sell new Foresters for 3000 under invoice and thats what you were trying to do. I came to talk to you and show you the paperwork that you had signed and you told me you dont know where it came from but we were liars because we wouldnt sell you the car at your figures. We dont do business like that. We are very upfront and dont need to lie to our customers. Lets atleast be hinest if you are going to write a bad review on us. I can accept a bad review and fix issues but it has to be the truth. Good luck to you in the future.

    • Im sorry, I meant Honest. Honesty does actually happen in the car business and we pride ourselves in it. We are very upfront and sometimes brutally honest but we have found that our customers respond to that a whole lot more than beating around the bush.

  • The place to find the car you love!

    This is one of the nicest dealerships I have ever worked with! The sales staff was friendly and helpful. The finance guy was respectful! I came in to look at a 2010 Outback. I knew it was more car then I could afford - but I want to see what I could keep saving for in the future. I honestly told the sales guy, I think his name was Jeff or Josh, that I was just looking. He knew I wasn't going to buy but yet he still treated me like a customer. Now I certainly will be!

    I went looking to purchase a vehicle which was listed on the net. When I arrived I was told the price listed was an error and price was actually suppose to be 1000 dollars more then the price listed. I was assisted by a typical slick talking salesman named Jason, although very nice I figure knew nothing by the way he kept running to the head guy David for an answer to every question asked. David was very cocky and borderline disrespectful as well as found to be short of knowledge himself when it comes to the ins and outs of financing. There was also a short blonde woman who was very disrespectful, engaging in what she felt to be a joking manner which was uncalled for and unprofessional. When I asked the sales rep working with me for a stick of gum her reply was "his breathe does stink I can smell it from all the way back here" not one conversation I had while there included or pertained to her. If asked would I return the answer would have to be probably not...
    • Im sorry if I cant remember this certain deal but I can tell you that we do have a good time around here and we try to make sure the customers are comfortable and not feel like they are pressured by everyday salespeople. As far as the pricing goes I can tell you that our guys are trained to give the internet pricing to customers if they are asked. That way there is no confusion. Sometimes what happens is a salesperson will remember a certain cars price but not realize that management lowered it at some point. Its just a simple case of making a mistake. As far as not knowing the Finance end of it thats why we have finance and business managers. Not everyone is licensed and bonded to be able to answer certain questions. The last thing I want is a sales person misquoting information and giving us a bad rep. Either way its very dangerous for us to quote anf financing without the proper licensing. Underpromise and over deliver is the best way to go on that scenerio. I hope this helps and im sorry if our joking around offended you. We just try to have fun with our customers and for the most part we have had quite a bit of success with it. Good luck to you in the future.
