Purchased a car and had a quick and seamless experience at the dealership. Happy with the process, Dakota was great in locating the vehicle I wanted and making the sale happen.

Good Experience
by djtn on 01/06/2009At the end of December, 2008 I purchased a 2009 Civic EX from Don Jacobs Honda in Lexington, KY. My initial queries were made through several online sites like Edmonds, and of the 3 Honda dealerships in my immediate area, Don Jacobs was by… far the most responsive using this approach. My internet contact was a Mr. Greg Hines, who was very helpful, and although attentive, was in no way high pressure or annoying. I would fully endorse the concept of doing 90% of your new car buying through the internet before ever going to a dealership (even before test driving a car). The other piece of advice would be to make it a policy of not buying a car upon your first visit to a dealership, but rather simply test drive the various cars you have researched. I found this very helpful in both defining the vehicle I wanted and feeling comfortable with the price that I ultimately negotiated. When I eventually went back to the dealership to purchase my vehicle I knew what I wanted and what I wanted to pay. The beauty of the internet negotiations is that the sales people also knew I was armed with this information and they and did not attempt to negotiate around my bottom line. So it turned out to be a pleasant experience for both myself the salesmen I worked with. I was basically finished with the whole purchase easily within an hour after entering the dealership.TERRIBLE HORRIBLE AWFUL STAY AWAY
by merc7741 on 11/13/2008I purchased a 2003 Jeep Liberty from Don Jacobs Honda in May of 2008. The salesman was new, not his fault, but also not very knowledgeable. I was assured that the car had undergone a 125 point safety and service check, so I felt reasonably… sure the car was safe and not going to have any major problems. I had to take it back because the front tires kept leaking air, and the alignment was out, the seat belt in the drivers seat did not work properly and the car pulled badly to the left. After leaving it all day, I went to pick it up only to be told, the car had been pulling because the tire pressure was low and that they had fixed the seat belt. I knew the low tire pressure had nothign to do with the way the car was pulling, since I had been putting air in them steady since I bought the car, and this is relevant to what happened next. Several times in the wet weather the car was very skittish and would slide at the front and back wheels, causing you to spin easily. Last month after an unusually heavy rain my daughter was driving and the car started to slide after she had just put air in the tires, and she lost control hitting a curb. The tire burst and the wheel was broken. When we took the car to get the tire replaced the tire specialists told us the jeep had 4 totally wrong size tires on it. We replaced all the tires as well as the wheel, the axle which had been bent when she hit the curb, and the steering knuckles. All to the tune of $1500!!! So forgive me if I doubt that the 125 point safety service check Don Jacobs service department does is worth 2 cents! If they knew what they were doing , they would have seen that the tires were the incorrect size, and replaced them. But I feel all tehy wanted to do was sell at any cost and with no outlay from them. As it was they got their asking price for the car and they are damn lucky my daughter wasnt hurt or they would be talking to a lawyer rather than just an irate consumer and parent. I will never buy another car from them, nor recommend them to anyone, in fact I will do the opposite and tell any one I know looking for a car to steer clear of them. I have written the general manager a letter verbalizing my concerns over 3 weeks ago, and to date have received no reply whatsoever. That tells me their customer service isnt as great as they like to profess either.Great Car Buying Experience
by jasonsmithmt on 06/06/2008After requesting a quote for a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L via email, Shawn McBride of Don Jacobs Honda responded quickly and with the best out-the-door price the first time around of any of the local area Honda dealers. No games, no messing… around. Once on the lot with price quote in hand Shawn was a pleasure to deal with in person. There were no hidden fees, crazy add-ons, or sales games played once on site. They were honest and delivered on their quoted price. Overall it was a very satisfying car buying experience. One of my best ever. Thank you Shawn McBride and Don Jacobs Honda. Some things never change
by jamesr2 on 02/25/2008We were told that Don Jacobs had changed their sales tactics, so we went there Saturday 2/23 to see for ourselves. We picked out a Honda CRV and were given a price by the salesman. He then went to get it approved by his sales manager,… and it was in fact approved. We left with the price written on the back of his business card. This morning (Monday) when we called to arrange purchase and pick up of the car we were told "Oh, I forgot to add on the protection package, so it's going to be another $340." I told him that was unacceptable and we expected to pay the price he gave us for the car. He refused to do so. So, are they dishonest or incompetent? In my personal opinion, those would seem to be the only choices in this case. And the irony is that we saved money by looking elsewhere for the same car in less than 3 hours. Lesson learned as well, we will never be back to Don Jacobs, nor could we recommend them to anyone.Great dealership clean and professional
by hondaisbest on 11/20/2007updated 11/28/2007This is the best buying experience i have ever had. I have purchased a new civic and new accord from them. The buying process was quick and never had to do the hasseling like other dealers.Great buying experience
by guru_g on 08/31/2007I bought a Honda CRV 4wd EX and all season floor mats (list-$149, typically sells for $99 online) for ~23,300+Taxes ($1330)+Title, license and prep. fee($395)=$25,000 OTD in March/April (when the car was new and in high demand) from Don… Jacobs. The first offer (I had requested an internet quote) I got from this dealership was $500 over invoice and the deal was finalized within 5 minutes over the phone!! I did not trade in anything. I added the extended warranty 8yr/100K $0 ded. for $885 (the dealer did not try to sell me the extended warranty. I wanted one and the dealer matched Bernardi's price without any hassle). The price on the CR-V+floor mats was $1587 below MSRP and I had a really pleasant buying experience from Don Jacobs Honda in Lexingtion, KY. If you live anywhere close to Lexington, I would highly recommend them. I drove 70 miles to buy from them as the local Louisville dealers would not budge more than $500-$1000 from MSRP. I ordered the CR-V in March and the vehicle was in before the salesperson said it would be in. The salesperson was very affable, courteous, and proactive in taking care of everything (called my insurance agent and gave the details of the car, kept me updated on the status of the car and emailed me the VIN when he knew, had the car ready to go when I said I would be in). No BS from the F&I person as well. Thoroughly pleased with the overall buying experience and they truly deserve 5's (I did not rate them on inventory as the CR-V was in high demand when I ordered and most of the area dealerships had only a few of them in their inventories). This was one of the best car buying experiences I have had.Great Experience with Greg H.
by BethMitch on 09/28/2012updated 04/24/2025I purchased a 2012 Pilot from Greg H., and he was an absolute pleasure to work with...it was very obvious why he is perennially their top Honda salesperson. Very straightforward, great customer service, and the easiest buying experience… I've ever had. On top of all that, he quoted me a price that no other dealer (including the used Pilots on Carmax) could beat. We love our new car, and would recommend Greg and Don Jacobs to anyone.Didn't do a darned thing
by lexlaser on 03/27/2011updated 04/24/2025Took my Honda hybrid in due to lousy gas mileage. Was promised 40 mpg but we were lucky to get 17 in town. Was told by Jeff (service mgr) that this hybrid was a 'disappointment' for Honda and they stopped making it. Service dept. could do… nothing about this. Car also vibrates loudly upon deceleration after driving a few miles. Of course they could find nothing wrong. The service writers were cold and detached. This was our first, and will be our last, experience with Don Jacobs.Great Buying Experience...
by mom_meets_van on 07/17/2012updated 04/24/2025We purchased a 2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L with RES from Don Jacobs Honda. The salesperson we worked with was Brent Music. We researched actual sales, trim packages, and vehicle options before going to test drive. We also secured lending from… our credit union & and requested price quotes from several area dealers. We felt the overall buying experience at Don Jacobs Honda was very fair -- we knew what we wanted & how much we were willing to pay. They price matched a very competitive offer, no questions asked. I felt that Brent took very good care to answer our questions, and was very professional. We would recommend buying from Don Jacobs to our family & friends, and anyone in the Lexington, KY area who wants to buy a Honda at a fair price.Worst experience with a car dealership possible
by aroig4219 on 07/06/2011updated 04/24/2025I worked with Adam Fergeson (salesman) and Chris Risalvato (manager). We agreed to a deal, shook on it, and then Chris tried to change the deal and shake me down for another $3K. What a [violative content deleted]. The Full Story: On… Monday 06/27/2011 my wife, 4mo old son, and I met with a Honda Sales Consultant at Don Jacobs Honda in Lexington KY for a prescheduled test drive of a new 2011 Honda Odyssey EX-L with RES. We quickly learned that this vehicle had been removed in a dealer trade earlier that day, but did spend approximately an hour with another van (EX-L w/o RES). When we returned the salesman informed us that his sales manager was confident that we could get the original van we were interested in returned to their lot, and we went into the sales office to discuss the details. The salesman divided a sheet of paper into two sections, top for the details of the van purchase, and bottom for the details of our trade. In inquiring about our trade he took our vehicles general information (mileage, features, accident history, and existing loan payoff). I then inquired about the existing loan (discussed as just under $3000), and asked if it would be beneficial for me to simply pay it off today before the trade, or trade the car in with the existing loan. He recommended just leaving the loan on it, stating that it would make no difference to them and would be easier for me. This is what we agreed to move forward with. We moved on to discussion of the vans price, to which he suggested that I throw out an opening price, which I did. After taking my price back to his manager he said that this price was a little too low, so I suggested that we table the discussion of the van while I thought about that, and let them go ahead and appraise our trade. After about 45 min he came back with an offer of $13,500 on the trade. He suggested that I make another offer, I spent a few minutes and came up with an offer which essentially had the trade plus my check totaling invoice+tax. I thought their valuation of my trade was too low by $500-1000 so this would put them at a fair price. He took this to his manager, and on his return I produced a copy of our trades payoff information (balance of $2,994.66) and handed it to him, stating that this was the exact number. He indicated that it was indeed correct as we had talked about slightly under $3000 and pointed to the section of the sheet I had signed where he had written $3000 was owed on the trade. He then said Im extending my hand, but going to pull it back, he (manager) took it with one condition, and since you are reasonable I know youll be OK with it. This condition was that I pay for the dealer installed splash guards and the cost of delivery from the other dealer. Their exact, written, counter offer was proposal was our trade, plus a check for $250 more than I had offered before. I had him look up the cost of the splash guards (he indicated it was about $110) and I proposed that I should not pay for the delivery of the van as it would also be putting miles on what would become my car, but I would pay $300 total for the splash guards and the addition of the All Weather floor mats and cargo tray. He wrote this down and stated you dont need to sign again next to this one, we know exactly what you mean. He took this offer to his manager and returned, to shake my hand saying it was a done deal. My wife (this is her car, so we were putting it in her name) then signed a few documents (not the sales contract, just a privacy notice and another trade related document). It should be noted that at this point in the conversation a recognizable contract has been formed though offer and acceptance for compensation. All terms of this contract were also clearly evident at this point with no reasonable expectation of confusion. Adam told us that he hoped to have the van available for delivery before Thursday as that would be the end of the month. As I have a busy work schedule I wrote a check for the agreed upon amount so that my wife could just drop off our trade and pick up the van when it was available. The salesman then told us that he had never had anyone write a full payment check for a vehicle not yet delivered and would have to check with his manager about how that worked. Upon his return he apologized, saying that he had made a mistake and mispriced the deal. He explained that he had neglected to include the trade payoff in his discussions with his manager. He also said that he had no power to really do anything at this point. I requested that he bring his manager into the conversation so that we could get a mutually agreeable arrangement figured out. The manager flatly offered a price $2,995 above where our current deal had been struck. The manager justified this figure by saying that while he recognized that mistakes had been made he could not sell a car near invoice and expected to sell this car at MSRP, if not more. I suggested that as reasonable people we could strike a happy medium and that I was willing to consider any ideas they had, but he refused to budge from his number despite the unique chain of events. It should be noted that the original terms of this deal, did still provide a profit on the sale. I also offered, in light of my conversation with him and truly out of sympathy for the salesman, to work with them to find a slightly higher price that would be acceptable to them, but the manager held firm at his number. I brought up the topic of professional integrity and standing behind an agreed upon deal. The manager that cited that his boss, Don, wanted every transaction to be about profit level on that transaction and held that above any other factor. In summary: I am an understanding person who knows that sometimes mistakes are made. After this chain of events I have great respect for the salesman both as an individual with integrity, and as a professional. He was very open about his mistakes and was more than willing to try to continue to foster a relationship. The manager on the other hand represented himself as the human incarnation of the stereotypical slimy car salesman. His shortsighted approach and unwillingness to even present the impression of willingness to try to work out a solution is a testament to his lack of professionalism, personal integrity, or understanding of how his personal actions tarnish both the reputations of his employer and represented product line within his market. I sincerely hope that the values he are not those instilled by the respective corporate cultures of either the family owned Don Jacobs Organization or American Honda Motor Company. The next day (Tuesday) I made a couple of phone calls and bought the exact same van for a very similar price to my initial offer from a dealership a few hours away. I cant say enough good things about the dealership I ended up purchasing from, the folks at Penske Honda were great and I only wish the were a little closer to home.Poor Quote Reponse
by glennam on 07/05/2011updated 04/24/2025We wanted to purchase a new Honda Fit from Don Jacobs in July 2011, but never received a quote. We submitted online requests 2 or 3 times and never got more than a canned answer stating that they would get back to us. I guess the Fit isn't… enough profit margin to warrant their time spent. Received a quote from another dealer Richmond within 1 hr and made a purchase within 16 hrs. Their loss! Better customer service at the Richmond dealership anyway.Felt tossed out in the cold after purchase
by lexlaser on 03/27/2011updated 04/24/2025Our salesperson was Stephanie. She couldn't have been nicer at the time we were looking. She made promises she didn't keep such as coupons for oil changes, free car washes, etc. Not sure if it was an out-and-out lie, but told us this hybrid… Honda we bought (used) would get 40 mpg. Wrong! Lucky to get 17 in town. Could not get her to answer the phone when we called the dealership and never returned our calls. Methinks she knew we got suckered? Should've bought another Ford.Honda Service Review
