I have been a loyal customer of Route 22 Honda for many years. I have leased three CRV's and my daughter has just recently leased a new CRV. I have dealt with Mohammed I. since coming to Route 22 Honda and he always provides me with excellent service, and it is for this reason, I recommended my daughter to talk with Mohammed when she was thinking about leasing a new Honda CRV. What I like about Mohammed is his honesty and the fact that he always follows through with everything he says he is going to do in a very timely manner. He really looks out for his customers' concerns and goes out of his way to make the whole experience of leasing a vehicle as pleasant as possible. The other employees at Route 22 Honda that I have had contact with, including the service department, have all been very nice and this is why I continue to give my business to this dealership.

It all began on Friday, May 2, 2014 approximately 6:30 p.m. I am greeted by Matt B., sales rep, to answer any and all questions. He was extremely polite, and informative. He even waited patiently for 1/2 an hour as I conversed with a friend who happened by. I decided to lease a CRV and Matt made the process run smoothly. He kept me informed of time frames and apologized for any delay. I was able to take home my 2014 CRV the following morning (white was the better choice - thanks for that suggestion Matt). Matt's customer service skills are awesome and Aaron (manager), you rock! See you guys in 36 months. Smiling all the way home!!!

I received a letter in the mail regarding a lease buy-back program which involved bringing my lease in early and lowering my monthly payments by getting into a new car. Figured this was one of those scams that dealerships try to pull on you but decided to go in since I needed to service my car. I was helped by a Sales Rep named ABDEL. Amongst all my previous leases and purchases over the past 10 years, I have never dealt with such respect and professionalism as I received from this individual. He was considerate enough to offer me coffee and spent some time showing me all the antique cars that the dealership had nicely displayed throughout the showroom before even asking what I was in for...Not only did he lower my monthly payments and get me into a new car, but I didnt need to pay for the maintenance since they took in my car before service was done with the job. He made sure the previous lease was properly paid off, called my insurance company and replaced the vehicles on my policy, and fully inspected the vehicle before i left the dealership. I went into this dealership while waiting for my car to be serviced and drove out in a new car. Never was it this easy for me. Buying a car can always be a nightmare dealing with sales reps that tell you one thing and not living up to it. Im really glad I worked with ABDEL NASSAR....buying a car was never this easy! If your planning on visiting this dealership, call in advance and ask to speake to this Sales Rep...You will be glad you did!

  • Purchased 9 cars from Route 22 Honda and sister dealer Route 22 Nissan.

My son's Honda Accord is coming off of lease in two weeks. When purchased 3 years back, finance rep at Route 22 Honda sold us "protection for minor scratches and dents when the vehicle is returned." Said "it would cover up to $2,500.00 for excess wear and tear. Called policy holder today and was informed that those items are not covered. [violative content deleted] Bold faced lies right to my face and my son's. One time, shame on me but, about 2 years ago my daughter was trading in a leased Audi A4 for a Honda Crosstour. Same dealership. They said they would take care of the remaining lease payments. Three months after turning vehicle in, Audi Leasing calls and says she owes $2,200.0 for excess mileage. Same car that was turned in 3 months earlier. Asked what this was all about, Route 22 General Manager made us all sorts of excuses, including that the salesman never told my daughter or I that. Twice in 2 years, we were faced with the same [violative content deleted] and lies. I will now pursue both cases with the NJ Consumer Affairs Division. Would recommend that no one buy a car from these dealerships. If you must, make sure you have everything in writing. They flat out tell you things that just aren't true. It cost my children substantial sums of money as a result of this dealership's employees lies! I have to add, including these two vehicles referenced, I have purchased a total of nine (9) vehicles form Route 22 Honda and sister company Route 22 Nissan. What changed since the first 7 vehicles compared with the last 2 is beyond comprehension. My feeling is that there is no oversight of the salespeople and they simply say anything to make a sale, true or false. Dring the initial incident with the Audi trade-in, I tried repeatedly to reach the GM. I was connected to someone wiht the title "Facilitator." Asked what that meant, he replied that he's the designated troubleshooter. Why would a reputable dealership have to have a full time "Facilitator" unless there are numerous complaints which he has to intercept and try to work out? Finally did reach the GM and he was of as little use as the Facilitator. The sales staff and the so-called managers epitomize what everyone thinks of when they hear the phrase "car dealer," a collection of fast talking [violative content deleted] who will tell you anything to sell a car. I will never buy another vehicle from either of these dealerships! Beware!

FIRST. I have to give them 1-star b/c I can't write a review with ZERO or NEGATIVE stars Went there, mentioned that I am interested in 2012 Honda Civic LX. The sales rep's name was "ABDUL NASSER". He did his minimal pitch about how good Civic's are, and we got to the stage of Test Drive. It was pleasant and we come back. He tells me to sit while he comes back with price info. He returns with a ridiculous base price compared to what I got in 'an email' from them. Finally he acknowledged (after several trips to what he mentioned to me would be his manager) to quote the internet price. Now he asks me so what price do I have in my mind and I present him the detailed quote I had gotten 2 hours ago from another dealer. Now he tells me that I wasted his time by asking for a test drive when I had already driven one today. What is wrong in asking for a test drive. It would be wrong if I come every day to him and ask for a test drive but THIS IS MY FIRST TIME IN THE DEALERSHIP AND I HAVE A RIGHT TO TEST DRIVE BEFORE COMMITING $20K. Then he does his mumbo jumbo, plays on his iPhone's calculator and throws random numbers at me claiming he will beat the price by giving me $1 less than the other dealer. That sure justifies me driving 30 miles, to save literally 1 BIG DOLLAR. The negotiations continue and we eventually decide he will give me $18K out-of-door NOW. I tell him I have to finalize the color with my wife and I will bring her back. He acknowledges and tells me he will confirm the $18K out-of-door price with his manager in the meantime, gives me his cell phone. I go home, pick up my wife and call him. Left him a voice mail - no call back from him. Dropped him a text message - no reply back. I am back there with my wife and he tells me all the other colors are at remote location so pick a color from the booklet and he'll bring that car here, and we'll keep doing this exercise until my wife likes one of those cars. This is b/c the remote location doesn't have appropriate lighting so going there and checking out car color is of no use. I MUST ASK, IF THE DEALERSHIP IS OPEN TILL 9PM, WHY CANT YOU SPEND FEW EXTRA DOLLARS IN LIGHTING UP THAT PLACE AND INSTEAD SAVE ON GAS AND TIME FROM THIS BACK-AND-FORTH OF CAR UNTIL CUSTOMER FINALIZES A COLOR. We finally convince that take us there and we will just make a decision on the color in the darkness with the aid of just the headlights of his car. Now the car color is finalized, we come back to the dealership again and Mr.Sales Rep reveals to me that the only car of that color is not available for delivery today so we'll have to wait. So we agree to wait, but he still keeps bouncing around rooms and bosses to give us the good news that the car will be ready tonight as they will rush through installing all the fuses and do inspections before giving it to. We feel relieved and keep waiting for next step as he again disappears. Finally he comes back telling us what our monthly payment will be as-per-the-price-that-beats-the-best-offer I had from morning. Ofcourse it doesn't look at all correct and now he tries to explain me how to count. We eventually land into the 'Manager's Office'. He's got a screen where he punches numbers and the payment changes. He explains me (incorrectly) how the rebate will be applied (and I can prove it from the statement they gave to me that what I thought was correct and what they explained to me was not). We argue about various outrageous fees. The guys puts me up for $810 destination fee (not visible at all anywhere until I ask the manager to explain me the fees, this was quoted to be $770 on the email I got), $299 for Document Proccessing (other dealer was charging me $199) and a fortune for license plates (I guess they were ordering half dozen for me b/c I know what 1 costs). He basically gives me a $300 discount on the cash price of the car and bumps my fees by $800 to net $500 out of me and then putting 3 smart-heads on top of me to convince me that they are beating the competitor's deal. Eventually, the manager tells me 'I should not buy from them, and I should just leave'. I had reached this conclusion long ago, so I just asked him why did you guys waste 4 hrs of mine when you knew what offer I had and you couldn't beat it. They then walk me to the guy in finance who tries to reason with me again, eventually revealing to me that the piece of document that I was showing to them was not official and can not be treated as a quote. He rather tells me that he needs as official document a copy of order/agreement b/w me & the other dealership stating that I am buying a car from them for price $X. So I ask, if I sign the document with other dealership then actually I would already be in a car bought from there, what would I be doing at this location holding that piece of document. He cant reason any more but just insists an actual invoice/agreement is only official proof that someone is selling me the car for that price. I finally decided enough is enough and walk off. If any sales reps, managers and staff of that dealership is reading this, you are free to contact me. You have my email & number. I can justify every number that I quoted there & showed to you. I also have every number that was quoted by your dealership and SHOW THAT YOUR PRICE WAS $577 (plus tax plus interest) more than what the other place quoted. Also, I will suggest that you send your staff to that other dealership as mystery shoppers and find out how thoroughly professional & transparent was the manner of dealing there.
  • Deceitful Sales Team

Do not go this Honda dealer!! The prices and ads are deceptive, and the sales team will string you along and then change the terms. Don't waste your time!! My family drove an hour to go this dealer because they advertised a competitive price on a Honda Pilot. I made an appt. to see a sales person and after waiting far too long was taken on a test drive. We loved the car except for some minor body work (scratches and a ding on the back rear). The salesman said his manager agreed to fix the body work and included it in the agreed upon price. THE DEAL WAS DONE! We emptied our trade in car and prepared to finalize the paperwork. After waiting again I was told rudely by another manager that I would have to pay $1000 for body work. Complete bait and switch. Horrible dealer. Never ever ever go here.

My daughter thought she was purchasing a used Civic 2008 from these people. On Friday, she negotiated hard and they settled on a good price. She gave them her credit card for the deposit (which they took to the back room to process) and they gave her purchase order and told her she could pick the car up the next day. The next day, Saturday, I go to pickup the car and they tell me that they didn't process the credit card, there was no deposit and they had told her they would only hold the car for Friday, and the car had been sold that morning. Looking at the purchase order, I see the dealer never signed it. Basically, they sold the car out from under her because some else offered a better price. It was a scam from the beginning. I see that the State of NJ has already fined these people for these kinds of bait and switch tactics. There are a lot of other complaints here and elsewhere dealing with the same problems I had. Save your time and your dignity; go some place else

This review does not represent what we and our team have worked very hard to build for our customers. These accusations you are making are very serious. We have had no government action against us such as you describe, and this is not the way we conduct business. I need to discuss these accusations with you. Please contact me immediately. no matter how many times i stopped by to look at new cars, throw my money at them, take my money, rt22 honda, take it. Nothing. No deal. I didn't buy my first honda from them. Recently stopped to look at cars, was greeted, shown cars. Looking to purchase soon, nothing to trade. Sales insisted on appraising my old car when i said several times loud and clear i have nothing to trade. LOL funny. I ran, not walked from rt22 honda. I didn't buy my second and last honda from this place and i don't recommend this dealer to others.

This Honda dealership offers more than shiny 2012 accords and really great coffee, they offer a sense of home, of warmness, and of genuineness. They were straight for ward with me the entire process and gave me several options. I was not expecting to actually leave with something (I am 22, never owned a credit card, did not have a down payment, and only have a cell phone under my name) but Mohammed worked hard to give me a chance and I drove off the lot with the car of my dreams. I was given a chance and I appreciate this dealership for it. I was not pressured into the purchase, I was not rushed, nor was I given any BS, They wanted to see me happy. I love my brand new car that I am leasing!

As you see in previous reviews. I too got suckered by the bait and switch. I made an appointment to see 2 vehicles they had on line for a used Honda CRV I was called twice the day of my appointment by Angie and Martel. They assured me both times the vehicle was still available. Having test drove a Honda previously I was going down with cash in hand to buy. After my hour and a half ride Not only was I told that both vehicles were already sold but in order to get the internet price you had to have bought a vehicle from them within the last 15 months (they called it customer loyalty) and you had to be a college student. so they added $2,000 to the vehicle. I also was kept there by it seems infamous stall tactic. Read the reviews it's the same with many customers, Don't be fooled by some planted reviews. If you go to this dealership, watch the customers, there either sitting around or walking out. Do not waste your time.................

I bought my first car Scion tc (60K run - 2007) from Route 22 Honda. Sales man ,JimJones gave good advice and got me a great deal. The Finance guy "Jimmy" is an exceptional person and helped me out well. The guys who work here are very helpful and professional, they did not try to pressurize me to buy any car and gave me their full time. I appreciate and want to thank Route 22 Honda for selling me the right car in my budget and I would definitely recommend to my friends and family to go this dealership.

AVOID!! After searching online and speaking directly with a sales rep for an appointment, we drove over to find that there was no record of our appointment. Then we found that one car we discussed had been sold the day before and another one was actually at another dealer. We were turned over to a few different salespeople who "knew" the inventory but could only scroll through an outdated (intentionally?) computer list. As my wife put it, "Not only were they dishonest and incompetent, they were slow and rude also." If you are looking to buy a car, save your time and energy. Stay away from Route 22 Planet Honda in Hillside.
