  • DO NOT PURCHASE A USED CAR FROM THIS DEALERSHIP

1 out of 5 starsby KarenD on 11/16/2017

I'm not a person that would normally write a review, in fact this is my first one. My disappointment was not with my sales person ,he was very nice ,but with the quality of the vehicle that I purchased. I should have listened to my gut… with the number of flags that went up from the get go. 1) I set up an appointment to test drive a used Volkswagon Wolfsburg that I found on the website. The person I spoke with said they would have the vehicle pulled up and a sales person ready to help me. I arrived on time for my appoint only to find out that my "sales person" was picking up cars from the Erie County Fair but if I could wait he would bring over a salesman from the Toyota dealership.... Flag #1 2) The Wolfsburg couldn't be located .... flag#2 I ended up test driving numerous other vehicles but ended up liking a 2015 Nissan Rogue. I was trading in a Nissan that I loved so I wasn't too concerned about purchasing a Nissan at a Toyota dealership .... big mistake. 3) The sales person through our discussions told me "we don't have a lot of wiggle room on the price due to the amount of work prior to getting it on the sale lot" .... Flag #3 So stupid me purchased this vehicle anyways only to have it in the shop for the good part of the first month of owning it . The excuse was " we had to take it down to the Nissan dealership...it's out of our hands" So my question is , what business do you have selling a vehicle that you can't fix? I ended speaking with the service manager who did end up taking care of me ,followed through with all my concerns and I was given a loner vehicle. Why did I have to go that far for proper service? Was I too nice or too patient? My voice was not heard by neither the customer service manager when asked if he could call me during my frustrations or the general manager after receiving a" let us know how we're doing" letter. I guess they only want to hear if things are going well and choose to ignore a disappointed customer. Fast forward to this past week: Back in the shop again with 2 (of the 4) original problems .... check engine light and sunroof issues. Going on 1 week tomorrow without my car but at least I have had a new Camry to drive. Moral of my story.... do not buy used even if financially it seems to make sense.

Recently took delivery of my third car from basil Toyota. The people there are excellent and the facility is the best in the area. I initially came to get my service done here since they have such a nice waiting area. Ended up buying here… as well.

  • Chris Jagielo and the great Basil Toyota dealership

5 out of 5 starsby JohnCollins on 07/25/2017

I have been a customer of Basil Toyota for more than a decade. During this time I myself bought multiple cars. Many friends and my children have done the same. We all received great wisdom, knowledge, and service. There is always a feeling… of family, support and confidence. Chris Jagielo sold me my first car with Basil. Without surprise he worked and deserved to be promoted to manager of this great establishment. From our first meeting Chris made me feel like family with the sense of being well taken care of during the buying process. When there were obstacles to making the purchase of a car he has worked with and counseled with great attention and sensitivity to the process. I have the upmost confidence in his ability, friendship, kindness, and professionalism. I proudly boast about Basil Toyota and it's world class facility and service. I am so confident about this dealership that I'd be willing to drive a car with a wrapped advertisement on the vehicle professing my support and love of the Basil Toyota establishment. John G. Found the certified used vehicle from Toyota USA website. Talked to sales person (George Wallrich) regarding certification, price etc along with informing him that I will be registering the car in Canada. Rented a car from Toronto to… Lockport to buy the used car and travelled with kids and family to dealer. When deal was in progress, they told me that there was some misunderstanding regarding the certification. Actually certification will not be available in Canada (Surprise!!) They should have told me that in first place itself when I informed that I live in Canada and will register the car in Canada. Since I put effort, time and money to go to Lockport and buy the car, I decided to go ahead with deal. After returning back to Canada, I learned from Toyota USA that the cerification is valid in Canada. Called the dealer (George Wallrich) and provide all the information. He told that he will call me back to me with the answer. No calls for 1-2 days. Again called him to find out that the matter is being looked by Tim. Next day when called and talked to Tim, he said he will look into it (certification) and get back. Same day got a call from GM (Shannen Wilsman) that they don't want to sell the car!!!! I am not sure whether car was actually certified. Not recommended at all...
  • I'd have to agree with the other reviewers...Basil Toyota has no integrity

    1.4 out of 5 starsby carshopper124 on 03/29/2009

They sold me a car that had major issues, I took it home and the very next day the check engine light went on and stayed on for most of the time I was in possesion of the vehicle. After an exhausting process, Basil Toyota ended up buying… the car back...unfortunately, I was out of tax, title, and various fees, which still amounted to well over $1000. The sales manager was very unapologetic and very unpleasant to deal with. STAY AWAY! If you value honesty and integrity, in my opinion, you're much better off taking your hard-earned money elsewhere.

I drove way out of my way because when called they said they were giving great deals on the new Tundra truck. The salesman took for ever to get the truck I was interested in ready for a test drive (only needed a back plate and key) and he… went with us making us very uncomfortable during the test drive. When we returned to the dealership about five minutes later because we were only allowed to go around the large block they still hadn't moved my trade in. So we waited and waited and waited for a trade in offer. Finally about 35 minutes later they low balled me with a offer that would cost me $3000 more than two other dealerships much closer to my home. When I asked for my key to my truck so we could leave I had to wait another 10-15 minutes just to get that (this seems to be a tactic by many dealerships, take a extra cheap key with you for trade ins). Then 4 or 5 days later they called me and wanted to give me a better deal. I said I don't play the dumb games and already purchased a new Tundra for several thousands less. This is old school games that no longer work with the internet playing against them. Don't waste your time here.
    • I was a local salesman for a buick and then a dodge dealership, and not oly Basil, but most local dealerships do just the same. They play games, but the sad part is, Lockport is considered one of the best places to buy a new car. We have one of almost every dealership, and if we dont have the car your looking for, we can probably get it. But that being said, they think they can charge thousands more just because of location, where as im seeing more and more internet dealerships taking charge of the situation and making millions off of Basils stupidity. Good luck to anyone who still decides to go there after these 2 negative reviews, though I must say, none of the other dealerships in the area are much better.

  • Considering Basil Toyota? Don't. Save yourself the aggravation...

I am a long time Toyota fan - 3 Celicas and 1 Solara. I bought my third Celica GTS at Basil in January 2007. My experience has been so bad, and Toyota's response was so poor, that I will never buy another Toyota. Western NY. January… 2007. Basil purposely selects summer tires to put on the car. First snowstorm after the purchase and I nearly wiped out several times on my way to work. I couldn't even get up my driveway when I got home until it was dried by the sun. Basil’s response – it was legal. I always worry when I get a legal response over a practical one. They couldn’t understand my concern; after all, they put on performance tires [which was the only kind of tires the rims would take]. They felt I should have been delighted at their thoughtfulness. If I had been driving the car during rush hour, their thoughtfulness could have gotten someone injured or killed. The salesman committed to sending me a second key, second fob, and owner's manual containing the security system instructions. He went so far as to say that if the parts department were open, he would have gone back there right then to get the articles. They eventually mailed be a key and only after I got the Better Business Bureau did they send me a fob. The key didn't work in the doors. The fob was for the wrong security system – they still swear it is the right one even though I have provided proof from a local (Rochester) dealership that it is the wrong one. Again they couldn’t understand why I wasn’t happy with having an expensive fob [the part about it not working wasn’t an issue to them]. The only positive part of this whole nightmare was that Toyota sent me the owner's manual and security system manual since Basil refused to honor their commitment. Toyota let me down in many other ways, but that is another story. While waiting to go in to see the Business Manager to sign all the paperwork, my salesman slipped another one of his customers ahead of me even though I had scheduled the time and the other customer showed up unannounced several days early. The salesman delayed processing my paperwork, which was ready to be processed, until after his other customer completed his paperwork. That wasted another 45 minutes of my time. Since giving up that Basil will ever take my concerns seriously, the driver’s door had to be adjusted to close properly, the fuel system is dying (stepping on the gas actually slows the engine for several seconds), the paint on the front bumper is bubbling up and peeling off, and the manual transmission no longer shifts smoothly. And, of course, the Toyota Certification I paid extra for doesn’t cover any of this. My experience with Basil Toyota has been one of frustration and anger. At best they are incompetent [can’t identify the correct fob or cut a key correctly] and deceitful [make commitments they don’t keep]. At worst, they have no concern for the safety of their customers as long as they make their sale.
  • Stay away from this dealer

They gave a look-good price with internet-sales savings to attract you. After you go there, thye say the one they quote was sold. Now you are in their trap to sell the one you don't want with high price. As a long time Toyota customer, it's… shame to see the dealer sell Toyota in such a bait-and-swtch way. Stay a way from them.
