1st Time Car Buyer
by m10walsh on 05/05/2011updated 04/24/2025As a first time car buyer you hear all of the horror stories from family and friends about what snakes salesmen are...about how they do not car as long as you buy the car and they get paid. I was very hesitant to buy a car in the first… place. My grandfather wanting to help took me to the place that he always goes to purchase his vehicels. It was a horrible experience and furthered my wish that I didnt have to buy a car. My grandfather even says that he will not puchase from them anymore. I came to Spitzer because of a wonderful salesmen Chris Brandon. He got me the car that I wanted and for a wonderful price. The time in the dealership was nice relaxed and I did not feel pressured in any way. All in all it completely changed my mind about the whole car buying experience. Good dealer, but....
by todd_f on 06/15/2011updated 04/24/2025I bought a new F-150 Lariat 4x4 from John Wolonsky. John was great to deal with and listened to my concerns. I also got a fair amount for my trade from Spitzer. I also have to commend Kelly in financing for getting me 1.9% for 72 months.… The truck was delivered later in the evening. It could have been a little cleaner however. Apparently this new $46,000 truck was being used by a member of the dealership as his demo. As delivered there was loose change in the cup holders, french fries and crumbs under the seats, dirt in the bed from it being used to haul stuff, and the bed rail was scratched up (although they did replace it for me). One thing that potential buyers should note, READ everything before you sign. This applies to all dealerships, not just Spitzer. I wanted an extended service plan for my truck. The girl taking care of the financing added a plan to my paper work and I clearly asked her Is that a Ford plan to which she nodded yes. I haphazardly signed the paperwork for the warranty and didnt bother reading it. This warranty cost me $2345 for an extra 3 years and 39,000 miles above and beyond the factory 3/36 bumper to bumper. Well when I got home and started to look over my paperwork I found that the warranty was NOT through Ford but a third-party warranty provider called First Extended. Now Im sure its a good warranty and Im sure they honor their contract but there were a few things that I just wasnt comfortable with. First you must take the vehicle back to your selling dealer for service. If you are outside a 40 mile radius you can then take it elsewhere but ONLY after you have called the warranty service and gotten their blessings first. Otherwise they can deny your claim. Secondly the wording on the contract states the plan is between you and the selling dealer. So I called the following morning and expressed my dissatisfaction with what had been done. I was most upset that I was lied to about who I bought the extended warranty from. I was told it was a good warranty and backed by Ford(?). From what I read on Fords ESP website, the only extended service plan backed by Ford is their own. I requested a refunded of the price of the warranty. That was OK with them BUT the refund must go back to the lien holder of the truck. Yes it would bring the principle down but I would have to come up with the cash to buy another warranty. The finance girl said she would do what she could and call me back the following Monday. She did call me back and was able to stop the warranty before it was sent in. She was able to sign me up with an actual Ford warranty with the same terms and at the same price. Readers should note however - DO NOT BUY THE FORD EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THE DEALER!! Let me say that again - DO NOT buy it from the dealer. You can buy the Ford warranty for MUCH less directly from Ford. For the same price I was charged at Spitzer for the 6 year/75,000 mile Ford ESP warranty, I could have bought the better 7 year/100,000 mile warranty directly from Ford on my own. Live and learn. If this review sounds like Im not slamming the dealer, Im not. I would most definitely buy from them again. Im just giving a fair and truthful opinion. Take it for what it is. 5 stars for sales team 5 stars for getting me a really low APR 0 stars for lying about the warranty 5 stars for swapping the warranty for a Ford as I originally wanted 2 stars for overcharging me on the Ford warranty and lying about that 2 stars for the condition of the truck (french frys, crumbs, scratched bed rails) Average of 3 starsWe appreciate you taking the time to bring this experience to our attention. Sam Houston: Car Buying Made Easy
