GREAT deal on my new 2024 Jetta GLI and I couldn't be more impressed.
Finally a Service Department You Can Trust!
by christian91 on 04/05/2010I have never had a "repair guy" I could trust in regards to my car. Having worked as a service writer for a short time I understand the stresses of the job and as a customer that it can be hard to find a trustworthy person to deal with when… handing over your keys. Chris Savage at Herzog-Meier has definitely earned my trust and my business for routine service of my Mazda. I feel like I have peace of mind when it comes to the reality of owning a problematic and high maintenance vehicle. I would like to thank Chris and the mechanics for a job well done in diagnosing the problem and burning the midnight oil reading through that extensive service bulletin to find a solution. I hope to not return for another mechanical failure for a long time but know that when I do, I will be in good hands with the Herzog-Meier Mazda service department.Quality shop with quality staff
by timg3 on 03/04/2010I am from Medford OR and this is the second time my daughters VW needed service at Herzog Meier. They run a quality shop with quality staff. They even washed the car before pickup. My daughter was impressed as well... And that can be hard… to do with college folks! They do itright the first time, and saving time is very big to me!Great Service Department!
by c_conway on 02/05/2010My service rep Mike went out of his way to fix a headlight that was out (not one of the reasons I brought the car in) and this was very close to closing time. I travel to Herzog-Meier from West Linn because I like the service department and… bring both of my Passats there. I have always been pleased with the service.High prices
by consumer54 on 07/14/2009I went in looking for a 2009 Jetta TDI. This one did not have the moonroof package. $26,000 was the best they could do. Went to another dealer across town. This was same car but included moonroof package. Drove it off the lot for $24,000.… It pay to shop around. Sales guys were nice until I refused there price. Did not hold the door open on the way out. I bought a 1999 Passat new from them. Service was sky high. Had to contact owners to get them to replace a faulty windshield that was sold to me in that condition.Do NOT buy a car from Herzog Meier
by eddyn on 10/07/2008My wife and I purchased a late model Volvo from Herzog-Meier and wow - what a mistake. After a long pitch about how "dependable" the Volvo is, they then sold us a warranty for $2000 that covers absolutely NOTHING. As soon as we bought the… car, the coolant light came on. When I went to fill the coolant, I couldn't open the hood because the hood latch was broken. I took the car in for service at Herzog-Meier and while they couldn't figure out the problem with the coolant, they did charge me $300 to fix the hood since to be able to access the broken coolant tank since the latch is not covered by the warranty. So, we resigned ourselves to filling the car with coolant every 2 weeks. A few days ago, the service light comes on with the coolant light so we took it in for service yet again. Apparently NOTHING is covered by the warranty and now we face the prospect of paying $1200 dollars to fix the cooling system, or just ditch the $13,000 (not including the $2000 warranty) car rather than continue to sink money into this lemon. Herzog Meier are a bunch [violative content deleted].Avoid the service department at Herzog Meier!
by pome on 08/13/2008Had a very unfortunate and disappointing experience. After 4 days they could not diagnose my car's problem. I got conflicting reports and comments from the tech (mechanic) and the service manager. One of the service employees told me I… "needed to be educated about cars". When I asked to speak with the tech and look at the car with him, he kept us waiting and then emerged obviously irritated and short tempered. The car overheated less than 10 minutes down the road after we left the lot, and we had to have it towed to a new place. When I called to get a refund of the money I had paid them, the service manager was unable to make any decision and needed to check with Tom Herzog. After two phone calls, Tom Herzog refused to refund my money. "Why should I refund your money if you already feel so negative about us?" (A direct quote.) He's an embarrassment to his family name in his attitude towards customer service. All in an effort to keep money in the till. I also feel they "load up" their list for what service you "need", with lots of unneeded items, to make more money. They will usually admit to this when pressured, but whop has time for the stupid games? I have been there 3 times now with 3 different cars and will never return. Same type of experience every time.Worst New Car Buying Experience Ever
by cristinaaaron on 06/16/2008Our experience at Herzog Meier is, by far, the worst car buying experience we ever had. We were looking at a White Cabrio they had on the lot used for my wife. Car didn't have a price on it--allegedly since they just got it in-- and we… stopped to look at it and wound up driving it......before we drove it, their salesperson suggested we have Dan Browning (their sales manager) evaluate the car we arrived in as a trade which we agreed to. Wife loved the Cabrio, but the price they came out with was $19k (over 6k above TMV price).....they then tried playing the payment game (we asked to pay cash) and I had enough and negotiating with them was going nowhere so I asked for our keys back to leave and Dan refused to give us back our keys.....basically everytime our salesperson would go to get our keys from Dan, he'd come back with another financing offer with different payment....we basically wanted to leave, but they held our keys and wouldn't let us go. After the third time the salesman came back without our keys, I had enough and threatened to call the police. Dan then came out and told us what a good deal we were passing up (final offer was still $1800 above TMV price for that car). I told him that we weren't interested in the car no matter what the price was and he proceeded to tell us that we weren't negotiating in good faith....I then picked up my cell phone and called the police at which time Dan handed me my keys. Basically, it took over an hour from the first time we requested our keys until they gave them to us. Worst car buying experience ever. Thru my job and personal autos, I've dealt with most of the dealerships in the PDX area.....this is the first and only time I've had anyone try anything this sleezy.Great salesmen, great dealership!
by joenewton on 06/08/2008This dealership was the easiest place to do business and was, well, fun! The salesman who sold me my new mazda 3 was very informed and experienced. He listened to what I had to say and seemed to have my best interests at heart. When I… first arrived I was greeted promptly and with a smile. He even offered to start appraising my car first to cut down on time! The building is new and looks more like a coffee shop inside then a dealership. A fooseball table, couches, soda fountain and free popcorn made me forget where I was for a moment. The staff were very nice and the service reminded me of the Mercedes dealership where I bought last summer. Maybe it has to do with being attached to a Volvo dealership as well? After driving two cars we found the perfect copper red hatchback with an automatic and leather! I love it. The rest of it sailed right along with out any back and forth I hate so much. It seemed like the salesman had more authority then at other dealerships I had been to the day before. I didn't have to deal with anyone else until it came time to sign the papers. I love my new 3, but what really did it for me were the staff. They made a purchase process enjoyable and that was the last thing I expected!Time Stands Still
by lknightor on 05/29/2011updated 04/25/2025Be forewarned, this dealership's sales department is stuck in the 70's. They play every "game" ever invented by car sales departments, and are not shy about it, or concerned about customer perceptions. The service side belongs to a… different era, so once you aquire the car you can expect a different level of care. Be prepared..know what you want, what you will pay, and refuse to compromise. No big secret, but if you are an uninformed buyer, the will find and exploit your weakness. It isn't an experience for the weak at heart or my Mom..but I come away pleased with the product (VW CC) and the price. I would only shop there again if I was ready of a battle..Waste of Time!
by takme4ide on 10/26/2013updated 04/25/2025This was a horrible experience and a terrible waist of my time, and a friends time for driving me there. The salesman I was setup to meet with was already complaining about me within the first five minutes I was there. He wasn't very… enthusiastic about selling me a car, not friendly, argued, and ran around the lot trying to prove me wrong on everything I said. I was there to buy a car and take it home that day, but my salesman was not willing to talk about financing and told me he didn't know what was available. I find that very hard to believe. I will be happy to spend the extra money to take my business out of town to get the car I want. This was not the only bad business experience we have had with this dealership. But since the service I received communicating online about car buying was pleasant, I was willing and open to giving them my business. Shame on ME for thinking they have changed. We sincerely apologize for your poor experience at our dealership. I can assure you this is not the standard by which we operate, and this single experience is not a true reflection of how we treat our customers. We appreciate your candid feedback and will immediately take the necessary steps to fix the problem. We became the #1 volume VW dealer in Oregon & SW Washington because we strive to provide an exceptional experience for all customers, but clearly we failed in this instance. We will learn from this to ensure a much better experience for all future customers.
Much better than expected
by steve_r3 on 05/12/2014updated 04/25/2025After a bad experience with another local VW dealer, I hesitated to try again with Herzog. But I was pleasantly surprised to find a straightforward approach and no pressure from their whole staff. Richard K. was very friendly and… knowledgeable, and it was the easiest car buying experience of my life. Definitely give these guys a shot if you want a VW.Large Inventory
by Marley123 on 05/23/2014updated 04/25/2025I had been searching for a black corolla LE for several weeks. Beaverton Toyota had a very good selection and a large inventory. Juan o. took me to an extra lot where they have extra inventory and I found exactly the car I was looking for!… I'm thrilled to have found exactly the car and color I wanted. The best buying experience I've ever had.
by mbloof on 11/13/2011updated 04/25/2025I was shopping for a TDI model and the dealer had a few dozen Jettas and a hand full of Golfs in inventory. After taking a Golf TDI model for a test spin I decided right then I did not need to look further - I was sold. I'd suggest… getting pre-approved at VW financing's website. They also suggest what documents you should bring with you to speed your purchase. It was a painless process. Armed with VW's and Edmonds pricing the 'bickering' was short. No "battles" here. I was not offering a trade-in so no battles there ether. The salesman introduced me to the service department, suggested that I bring the car back in 90days for a free inspection and even called me a few times in the following days/weeks to check on my satisfaction with the car and sales process. They are close to where I live and the entire staff seemed genuine and friendly. I got the impression that my satisfaction is very important to them.Awful, Unbelievably Bad
by claytonb on 06/26/2011updated 04/25/2025Save your time, do not come here. My partner and I knew exactly which brand new car we wanted and the options. We had financing all lined up through our credit union. They lied and told us that they CUDL'd with our credit union. They got… us to come in when they "found" the car we were looking for on another dealership's lot. But when we arrived, they kept trying to sell us a similar car already on their lot that we made clear we did not want. They lied and said that the car we wanted was being sold at the moment. They retreated from that after we insisted we wanted the original car and were willing to wait for it to arrive. Then they kept trying to push us to use their financing instead of our credit union. They just wouldn't let it go. Then they were wanted to play more games on the trade-in. All we wanted was an amount less than the Kelly Blue Book trade-in value, but they were not even offering half. They do the whole routine of "let me go back and see what I can do", and let's all jump for joy for the news we have for you now. After we came to a verbal agreement that we would do financing through our own credit union they kept us waiting for 2 hours to get in to sign the paper work. But the paperwork was all drawn up to go through their financing instead of ours. Their finance person (Seth) claimed he didn't know that we wanted to use our credit union. Additionally he admitted that they don't CUDL with our credit union. At this point we had enough and walked away from the deal. All we wanted to do was buy the car at the sticker price listed on the official volkswagen website with our own financing. All they wanted to do was waste a beautiful Saturday for all of us. Save your time, and don't bother with this business in the first place. The owner of the dealership contacted me personally and we cleared up everything. I'm satisfied with the car and very much appreciated their effort in setting things right.
Easy and Competitively Priced
by Eddy_C on 12/02/2013updated 04/25/2025I'm the type of person that shops around ALOT before making a big purchase, so I got quotes from many other dealers before buying from Herzog VW. They're price was competitive, but the thing that won me over was the service from their… staff. I talked with one lady (forget her name) multiple times and traded emails back and forth for a week with her. Very friendly and straightforward. I highly recommend this dealership.
I bought a new 1999 passat in 1999. When I got home I thought there was a smuge on the winshield right in my view. It turned out to be a bad scratch. It was a sunny day and I never turned on the wipers. The shop manager swore it was a rock and I had run the wipers. The salesman was no help. I wrote letters to Herzog and Meier and in two day the shop called to tell me they would replace the windshield. I was in the other day to by a new Jetta Tdi. It was the basic no sunroof. They wanted 26,500 and would not bargin. I bought a TDi with moonrooff for $24,000.from Armstrong They were great and realy wanted to sell me a car. Your guys did not seem to care. Your prices on new and used cars are to high. Service people need to be trained on people skills. PS. On My Passat the glove box would not stay shut. I told the to just check the latch. They said they had to replace the whold door for $500.00. I took it home and took the latch apart. It was just a spring that had fallen out.
