The Perfect Long Hauler
After researching extensively, I bought my 12 passenger E-350 XLT Super Duty to use as a tow vehicle for my single axle camper (3,500 lbs.). The tow rating of the van is 7,500 lbs., so I knew it would be more than adequate. It has not disappointed and has been very reliable. It handled a 7,200 mile trip from Pennsylvania to Montana with ease. The 5.4 V-8 with 3.73 rear end averages between 12-13 mpg while towing. 12 mpg city / 17 mpg highway. Remove the seats and it is a cavernous hauler with a 1 1/4 ton payload capacity. With seats in, 11 adults sit comfortably. These vans are known for their durability and longevity. A common maintenance issue are the front wheel bearings failing, but quality replacement parts are cheap, and if you are a DYI person, an easy procedure. I just replaced mine for the first time at 135,000. If you are considering owning this vehicle, you won't regret it.
