Nice, but some quality issues

I just purchased a 2020 Ford Explorer ST. I love the way it drives and all the great features. I get great comments about the looks and styling. But, with less than 200 miles on it, I am noticing quality issues. Before I picked it up, the dealer had to fix the rear bumper alignment. It was touching the liftgate. We also noticed the same problem on anther Explorer ST on the lot. When I got it home, I noticed the rear door window trim was almost falling off on both rear doors. The infotainment screen is very sluggish. And the issue that bothers me the most iswhat sounds like a skip in the engine when its cold. I can hear an occasional "thump" in the motor, like it is mis-firing once in a while. It also seems to fill my garage with lots of exhaust condensation. But that might b due to the below zero temp here right now. We will see what happens when the temps rise. The engine skip seems to go away after the engine warms up and there are no check engine lights. So the computer is not detecting a skip. I am worried about the long-term reliability of my Explorer. Let's hope I am worried about nothing. It has less than 200 miles on it.

I have 1500 miles on my new ST. I love a lot of things about it, there's been a lot of improvements since I bought a Explorer Sport in 2016. There's one major problem though. The display for the reverse camera view is horrible. It defaults to a split screen so the actual view behind you is on a 3" x 2.5" screen. You can remove the 360 degree view on the other half of the screen but almost always it hasn't loaded the entire program before I'm done backing. That means 90% of the time I have to look at the 3" x 2.5" version. The actual monitor looks like an I-pad so there's plenty of room but Ford didn't utilize the space! My 2016 reverse monitor view was at least 3 times larger! If you buy one just count on rubber necking when backing up, the camera isn't a lot of help.

I just upgraded from a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum to the 2020 Ford Explorer ST. I went with the ST over the Platinum this time to get the higher powered engine, 400 HP vs 365 HP. I wouldn't think that is much of a difference but this car drives totally different then the 2016. Probably not as smooth a ride but definitely more exciting! This large SUV is fast! I love the new styling and got my car with the Premium Technology Package and ST Street Pack. Love the huge display screen and red caliper brakes! The new car also can tow a bit more (5,600 lbs vs 5,000). I really think Ford has done nothing but improve on the last generation Explorer, which I thought was fantastic too! The twin turbo Ford engines are awesome!

Purchased a 2020 Ford explorer st and has been a complete POS for over five months! This thing is super dangerous to drive as it literally has a mind of it own. It reads adopt a highway signs, county road signs, church signs and anything else it can pick up on. I can set the cruise control and it will go into a nosedive or speed up to over 80 mph. I can't believe Ford hasn't taken this thing back. Customer care is completely worthless an hour on the phone every other day. The transmission is terrible feels like it's going to fall out. The touch screen/table is horrible. I live in MN so in the winter it won't turn on until the vehicle warms up. It randomly turns off the radio on it's own. You can change stations music changes but won't change on the screen. The sync system is horrible sounds like you're calling someone from the moon. Crossing my fingers for a buy back or lemon law.

Early production issues

Against my better judgement i rushed to buy the new Explorer ST. Being an existing owner of two Explorer Sports i had high expectations. Unfortunately Ford has slipped in quality. The power and performance is top notch but quality issues abound. My suv has been in the shop numerous times already for sensor issues and other quality problems. As an early buyer i am having buyers remorse for sure with a steep price tag. The 360 driving leaves something to be desired as well as i feel like i am fighting the steering wheel and the adaptive cruise control should provide some warning it is slowing you down. Finally the all season Pirelli tires leave enough to be desired that i have already purchased a new set of rims and better winter tires. Overall a good deal of misses on Ford part in the launch of this Suv.
