2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost High Performance: The Hottest Four-Cylinder Mustang Yet
More four

It wasn't that long ago that V8 Mustangs were only making around 300 horsepower. But with the new High Performance package for the 2020 Ford Mustang, you'll be able to drive a car that gets more power out of half the cylinders. The High Performance package adds 20 hp to the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder motor's output, bumping it up to 330 total horses. The package also includes a host of performance bits pulled from the Mustang GT's Performance package.

Perform Highly
Ford says these engine upgrades will result in a 0-60 mph run in the mid-4-second range and a top speed of 155 mph. But the High Performance package doesn't merely add more power, it also increases how accessible that power is. With a slightly larger turbo, a larger radiator and revised tuning, the EcoBoost High Performance makes peak torque across more of its rev range and delivers more horsepower as it approaches redline. The package is available with either the Mustang's manual or automatic transmission.
We were already pleased with the EcoBoost's power delivery, so this upgrade will undoubtedly add a bit more fun to the equation. Also on tap is an active exhaust system. The turbocharged four-cylinder's sound has never been great, so hopefully this will be a worthwhile upgrade.
The suspension has been upgraded all around with thicker stabilizer bars both front and rear, improving handling. The chassis has been stiffened with a new strut tower brace, and the Mustang GT's larger brakes have been fitted. The package also adds a limited-slip rear differential, 19-inch wheels with summer tires (255/40Rs) and recalibrated versions of the steering, braking and stability control.
Around the outside, the EcoBoost High Performance gets aero bits from the Mustang GT's Performance package that should help decrease front-end lift and improve brake cooling. You also get gray side mirrors and a gray hood stripe to set High Performance package cars apart.
These upgrades are a bit reminiscent of what Chevrolet has done with the 1LE Track Performance package that's available for the turbocharged four-cylinder Camaro. We had a blast driving that car, but we've always found the Mustang easier (and more comfortable) to live with than the Camaro. Can't wait to get a chance to compare the two back-to-back.

Other Updates for 2020
For 2020, EcoBoost Mustangs fitted with the High Performance package will also be eligible for a Handling package, which adds semi-metallic brakes, sport-tuned MagneRide adaptive dampers, wider wheels (with 265/40R tires), and beefier stabilizer bars.
Across the Mustang range, FordPass Connect will now come standard. This system lets you use Ford's app to locate your vehicle, lock and unlock it, check fuel and oil levels, and receive maintenance alerts. It also allows for remote starting on automatic-equipped Mustangs.
2020 Mustang Price and Release Date
The 2020 Mustang and EcoBoost High Performance package should hit dealerships this fall. Ford hasn't confirmed the 2020 Mustang's price structure as of publication time, but we don't expect things to change too much. The EcoBoost with the Performance package comes in around $28,000, so we expect the High Performance package to come with a price that's just a little ... higher. Stay tuned to Edmunds for more information and our inevitable four-cylinder high-performance pony car comparison.
