My First Ford Truck

My Ranger is a fine vehicle, smooth ride, excellent handling & power to match. The exterior design is also a plus factor, having conformed to the changing times by having that sleek look but maintains the distinct Ford body style (a manly style). Only Ford & Chevy have been able to keep their trucks the way I like em! I must add however that the Ranger was sort of a poor choice for me. I am 6'1" & 240lbs. I am not uncomfortable in my Ranger but I still, after six months, can't seem to get to seat adjusted right and my head is .25 of an inch from the ceiling. I am comfortable even driving for long periods. Recommend 2004 Ford Ranger. But us "Big Guys" need "A Full Size Baby".

Just a fine truck, works and plays hard then drive it to dinner. Mine has 75,000 miles - nothing but normal maintenance, i.e. oil, brakes, tires.

Bought my 4.0 V6 XLT with the FX4 package a few months back (1 owner $2000 with 96k miles), now at 116k and I'm relatively pleased. It has decent enough power, though it's focused more on the bottom end as opposed to speed, which is to be expected. Though I have to say, for as long as this engine had been in production, you would think Ford could've refined it more to get better MPG. Interior quality is about average for an American car of the time; that is, nothing special, but adequate, with lots of cheap feeling plastics and big panel gaps. The seats have decent side-bolstering, though the back and seat bottom are sorely lacking in any sort of support - they're just flat slabs, nothing more - I had to get a cushion to absorb all the shocks from the road. Space is also a bit of an issue...I'm 6'1" and my head brushes against the roof liner, and my legs are kinda cramped with my knees right up against the instrument panel with the seat in the furthest position. Needless to say the jump seats in the back are a complete joke unless you're a small child, and even then their usefulness is questionable at best. I would've preferred some sort of organized storage bins back there instead. With regard to maintenance, in my time with the truck I've had to replace the thermostat and flush the transmission which has added up to around $700 in repairs. Overall the Ranger has been a good little truck that has performed well in a variety of conditions and I can see why even now it's a very common sight on the road. With a few exceptions it seems to be a truck designed around being a basic, solid, common-sense truck - never letting it's reach exceed its grasp.

I bought it used with 113000. Have had it one year now. So far it has been a fantastic vehicle. It is the fx4 so it has a posi rear end. In a recent snow storm I drove home home 23 miles and never, never spun the tires. Missouri has some extremely hilly terrain and this truck just drove with no drama. I’m not impressed with the fuel mileage but it has the 4.0 and 4x4. I’m not complaining , just an observation. The heater can bake muffins and the A/C will freeze popsicles. There are some things I don’t care for like the position of the lock button and The last two Fords I owned have horrible driver seats. Otherwise I love this vehicle.
