The Genesis GV70 is already our favorite compact luxury SUV and this Electrified version builds on its strengths with even quicker acceleration and similarly quiet power delivery. It's held back by its 236-mile range estimate that falls short of what rival EVs offer, but to its credit, we easily exceeded that figure in the Edmunds EV Range Test.Read full review

Overview
by the Edmunds Experts
1/6/2025
The Genesis GV70 is the compact SUV offering from Hyundai's luxury brand, slotting in between the subcompact all-electric GV60 and the gas-powered midsize GV80. Unlike many EVs, the Electrified GV70 rides on a similar platform as its internal combustion engine twin. This is a good start, considering the GV70 is already our favorite SUV in its class. The Electrified variant follows suit and is equally accomplished, but it has less range than many rivals, which may be a byproduct of it not having a dedicated EV platform. That said, it's among our favorite luxury SUVs in this category.

Am I Ready for an EV?
- EV ownership works best if you can charge (240V) at home or at work This typically means a 240V home installation, but you could also have a similar setup at your office or other places your car is already parked for several hours each day. Don't expect a regular household outlet (120V) to suffice unless you've got a plug-in hybrid, in which case overnight charging at home is feasible.
- If you can’t charge at home, charging at a charging station could take at least 10x longer than at a gas station With public charging infrastructure still in its infancy, the user experience can be maddeningly inconsistent. Tesla owners tend to rave about the reliability and speed of the company's proprietary Supercharger stations, but rival DC fast options have thus far been plagued by technical issues and overcrowding. It's an evolving landscape and our best advice is to do your research on the available options for the EV you want to buy.
- Adding a 240V home charging system could cost up to $1,600 or more If your existing electrical service can handle the additional demands of EV charging, you may be able to add Level 2 charging at home for less than a grand, including installation. But your costs will multiply if you need to upgrade your electrical panel or add a dedicated circuit.
Edmunds spotlight: The affordable luxury alternative
Genesis is known for delivering luxury at a much more accessible price than its German rivals, and that holds true for the 2025 Electrified GV70. You get a ton of features for the money, including nearly every advanced safety feature you can think of. Naturally, you'd expect some corners to be cut, and the GV70's interior materials aren't as posh as what you'd find in a Mercedes, but they're not that far off. It's currently our second-favorite electric luxury SUV in any size category, coming in second to only the larger BMW iX that costs at least $20,000 more. Check out our Expert Rating below to see why we hold the GV70 in such high regard.
Competitors to consider
In the two years since the Electrified GV70 debuted, direct rivals have been hard to find. The Tesla Model Y and Volvo XC40 Recharge are in a smaller class, but the competition is finally starting to heat up with the debut of some new models. The Audi Q6 E-tron shows a lot of promise and is priced similarly, while the all-new 2025 Cadillac Optiq costs less. On the horizon, BMW is working on an electric X3 equivalent. For those with deeper budgets and a thirst for performance, the Porsche Macan EV is a desirable alternative.

8.4
out of 10
We drove the 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year. The Edmunds Vehicle Testing Team evaluates a fresh batch of vehicles every week, pairing objective assessments at our test track with real-world driving on city streets, freeways and winding roads. The data we gather results in our Expert Ratings. They’re based on 30-plus scores that cover every aspect of the automotive experience.
Performance
8.5/10
How does the Electrified GV70 drive? Take one look at the gracefully styled Electrified GV70 and you'd never guess how much power it packs in a straight line. At our test track, it ripped from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. We suspect it could be even quicker with gripper tires, as the standard eco-minded tires are easily overwhelmed by the electric motor's power when you mash the accelerator.
The GV70's handling abilities are also hindered by its non-performance tires. But at a more relaxed pace, the Electrified GV70 easily satisfies. It feels more planted and secure than its gas-powered twin (thanks to the EV's intrinsic low center of gravity) and has smooth braking and predictable steering. This SUV absolutely shines as a relaxing daily driver.

Comfort
9/10
How comfortable is the Electrified GV70? The Electrified GV70 matches the standard GV70's exceptional ride quality. With a standard adaptive suspension that scans the road to adapt, the GV70 takes on potholes and bumps like a champ. We also love the front seats with their subtle bolstering and soft material finish. They're also heated and ventilated so everyone can get comfy. Rear passengers are treated to a similarly pleasant experience, with a second-row bench that reclines back far and offers optional heating.
Genesis uses a haptic feedback touchscreen for its climate controls, and although it looks nice, the screen isn't as responsive as it could be. Sometimes it takes an extra press or two to make something work. The system itself works very well with strong fan speed. Without any audio playing, the GV70's cabin is one of the quietest in the game. And because there isn't an engine to chime in, the Electrified model feels even more peaceful.

Interior
8.5/10
How’s the interior? There's a sophistication to the GV70's interior that the GV60 just doesn't have. With more space and a less busy design, this is one of our favorite interiors in any car today. Most of the controls are easy to use, though the proximity of the similar-looking infotainment controller and the gear selector is puzzling. The center touchscreen also requires a somewhat long reach.
This SUV is the absolute perfect height for getting out, with wide door openings to help even more. The driver's seat has enough adjustability to find the right driving position, and there's enough flexibility for taller drivers, too. The GV70 is pretty easy to see out of, and the 360-degree camera system further helps out in tight parking situations.

Technology
8/10
How’s the tech? The Electrified GV70's touchscreen graphics are sharp, and the optional 15-speaker Lexicon sound system is an absolute banger with huge sound and fantastic adjustability. The fingerprint scanner is a fun alternative to using the key, and the optional head-up display is super easy to use. Navigating through menus, both in the instrument cluster and the infotainment screen, is simple. Standard Genesis Connected Services allow for remote monitoring and control via a smartphone app, and now that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wireless, our only wish is for more current USB-C charge ports.
Genesis threw almost every driver assist feature at its disposal into the GV70 Electrified, including Highway Driving Assist II. Though it doesn't offer true hands-off capability like some of its competitors, the system will keep the car in the lane and maintain the appropriate speed. It's well calibrated and doesn't get overly intrusive.

Storage
8/10
How’s the storage? The Electrified GV70 has a generous cargo area that is nearly the same size as the one in the gas version of the SUV. That means 28.7 cubic feet of space behind the second row, which is on par with the bigger options in the segment. The seats fold down flat with an easy 60/40 split, making loading an easy task. While there is a small compartment under the hood for storage, it pales in comparison to the one in Tesla's Model Y.
Small-item storage in the cabin is adequate but not spectacular. We appreciate that the cupholders are out of the way on the center console, and the door bins can hold a decent amount. Bonus points for the wireless charging pad pocket that hides your phone completely out of the way.
The spacious back seat is great for parents who need to install car seats. We also like that the safety seat anchor points are easy to access and that the door openings are wide enough to get seats in and out without bumping into anything.

Range and Efficiency
7.5/10
How are the range and efficiency? The EPA estimates the Electrified GV70 can travel about 236 miles on a single charge, which is an average distance for a small luxury EV. On our standardized real-world Edmunds EV Range Test, our test GV70 posted a slightly longer distance of 255 miles. Still, that's below what the Audi Q4 E-tron and Tesla Model Y can do. As for efficiency, we used 33 kWh of battery per 100 miles of driving, which is on the better side of things for luxury electric SUVs.
Like other electric Genesis products, the GV70 has some impressive charging stats. It can juice from 10% to 80% capacity in 18 minutes on a 350-kW DC fast charger, or from 10% to 100% on a Level 2 system in seven hours. Those are substantially quicker charge times than the Audi Q4 E-tron and Lexus RZ offer.

Wildcard
8.5/10
The Genesis Electrified GV70 is a great reminder that this company knows how to build a great all-around vehicle. This is the best version of the GV70 yet — it has the same stunning looks but adds a fresh powertrain that packs a major punch.
Which Electrified GV70 does Edmunds recommend?
Since the Electrified GV70 is only offered in AWD Advanced trim, the only decisions left to you are options and colors. We recommend adding the optional Prestige package since it includes several desirable features, such as a larger instrument panel, a head-up display, premium audio, a quieter cabin and nicer materials.

Foremost, the smooth/ oh-so-smooth ride and the quiet/very quiet interior at speed. Steering is uncanny and power (Boost!) is frightening, but FUN. Elegant and tasteful inetrior with great tech, 'cept for having to cable Android Auto. and 2nd row seats tilt (my costly BMW 5X did not!!!???). Exterior styling is somewhat strange, but all the other features massage thqat away...

Car started leaking into passenger area. In 5 1/2 months owning vehicle, it has been in shop for same issue 3 times for a combined 40-50 days. Their idea of customer service is to say sorry, present no solutions, make unfulfilled promises and not return calls, as promised. Will NEVER purchase Genesis/Hyundai again!
