Overview
The GMC Canyon is a midsize pickup truck worth checking out. It was fully redesigned for the 2023 model year, and it received notable updates for 2024. All Canyons come standard with lifted off-road suspension and all-terrain tires, and with 4WD standard on most trims, nearly every Colorado is ready to venture off the beaten path. The Canyon is also aesthetically pleasing inside, with a spacious cabin and eye-catching standard 11-inch digital instrumentation panel and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
Edmunds spotlight: Off-road chops
The Canyon comes with off-road capabilities out of the box. Every truck rides on all-terrain rubber and packs an off-road-tuned suspension. The Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is the chief off-roader in the lineup. It's outfitted with steel front and rear bumpers, steel underbody skid plates, 35-inch mud-terrain tires wrapped around 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and a full-size spare in a cargo-bed mount. The AEV Edition is awesome, but be ready to cough up an additional $10K for that package. Whichever trim you opt for, though, you can bet you'll have a truck capable of wheeling off the paved road.
Competitors to consider
The GMC Canyon has plenty to offer, but it isn't the only truck that can easily grab your attention. The Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma, both redesigned for 2024, are two respected trucks that arrived with bells on. Both trucks are alluring and could be great alternatives. The veteran Honda Ridgeline and Jeep Gladiator each received updates for 2024, so they remain viable options for those looking for a modern midsize truck.
