2024 GMC Yukon XL

The Jeep Wagoneer L is a long-wheelbase variant of the full-size Wagoneer SUV. It's a foot longer than the standard Wagoneer, and though it doesn't gain any passenger space, the interior benefits from a more usable cargo area behind the third row. Like the Yukon XL, the Wagoneer L is pitched as a more upscale option, and that shows once you step foot inside the Jeep's impressively well-appointed cabin. If the deciding factor is which one can haul the most toys, the Wagoneer L has the higher max towing capacity.

The Ford Expedition Max is notable because its only powertrain option is a turbocharged V6. Despite having just six cylinders, the Expedition Max (the Max means it's the long-wheelbase version) cruises effortlessly at highway speed and has plenty of power to pass slower traffic if necessary. It can also tow up to 9,000 pounds, which is more than the GMC. But for maximum fuel efficiency and towing ease, the Yukon XL's available diesel engine is the better pick.

Mechanically, these two SUVs are nearly identical. You'll find the same engine options in both, and the available options are all pretty similar. The GMC sports a more rugged exterior design and uses slightly better interior materials, which is why it has a higher starting price. The choice between the two ultimately will come down to your own personal preference.
