For 2026, the current-generation Honda CR-V will be refreshed for the first time since its redesign in 2023. Honda also revealed the CR-V will get a TrailSport trim for the first time, following the success of TrailSport versions of the Passport, Pilot and Ridgeline. Honda was light on details when it slipped the name, but we expect this TrailSport to follow the successful formula used on the other models: slightly increased ground clearance, light underbody protection, all-terrain tires and possibly additional off-road drive modes. This won't be a serious off-roader, but it'll compete with the adventurous Subaru Crosstrek and Forester.
Edmunds spotlight: Spacious, comfortable
The Honda CR-V boasts impressive cargo capacity numbers, offering a maximum 39.3 cubic feet of storage space behind its second row. That beats every small SUV with the exception of the Kia Sportage (39.6 cubes), but the CR-V has more space with the second row folded. All that cargo space is offered in conjunction with CR-V attributes like a pleasant, comfortable ride, making the CR-V a great companion for long road trips. The seats are supportive for hours on end, and heated seats come standard, though Honda still doesn't offer ventilated seats.
Competitors to consider
There is a ton of competition among small SUVs. The Mazda CX-50 is a good option if you're looking for an SUV with sporty handling, while the Subaru Forester's adept AWD system handles light trail work with ease. We're also fond of the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson hybrids.
