Overview
The 2025 CR-V is the middle child in Honda's lineup, surrounded by the subcompact HR-V on one side and the larger midsize Passport and Pilot on the other. Historically, the CR-V has been one of the best small SUVs in its class, and that continues with this generation, which was redesigned in 2023. There are no major changes for the 2025 Honda CR-V.
Edmunds spotlight: The CR-V is big on comfort and cargo
Honda has always been tuned into what its shoppers need, and in the case of a compact SUV, it's comfort and convenience. While other carmakers may tout their performance or off-road capabilities, the CR-V hones in on these core competencies. The suspension ably smooths over bumps in the road, while the seats are adequately padded for long-distance comfort. Helping matters is a quiet cabin to reduce fatigue or to let little ones sleep. The CR-V is also great for hauling family-related gear, luggage or all of the stuff you just bought at Costco thanks to its huge 39.3-cubic-foot cargo capacity behind its rear seats.
Competitors to consider
You really can't do much better than the Honda CR-V. We like the Mazda CX-50 for its sharp styling and peppy performance, but it's not as fuel-efficient and can end up a bit pricier. If you're seeking more passion than pragmatism, though, it's a great choice. The Subaru Forester takes another route altogether, emphasizing all-weather capabilities with a dash of off-road adventure. For a lot of shoppers, the CR-V will be the most well-rounded choice. Read our test team's Expert Rating below to learn more.
Which CR-V does Edmunds recommend?
We think the EX-L trim is the way to go. This is a midpriced trim for the CR-V but comes with just about everything you'll want or need, including leather upholstery, a power liftgate and more.

Honda CR-V models
The 2025 Honda CR-V is available in six trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, EX-L, Sport-L and Sport Touring. The LX, EX and EX-L trims come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the Sport, Sport-L and Sport Touring use a hybrid powertrain for improved fuel economy. Most CR-V trims have standard front-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive as an option. The exception is the Sport Touring that comes with standard AWD. Keep reading for a more detailed look at the significant features that come on each trim.
LX
Starts off the CR-V lineup with:
- Turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (190 horsepower, 179 lb-ft of torque)
- Continuously variable transmission
- 17-inch wheels
- Push-button start
- LED headlights
- 7-inch touchscreen
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration
- Four-speaker sound system
The CR-V also comes with these driver assist features:
- Forward collision warning with automatic braking (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
- Lane keeping assistance (steers the CR-V back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
- Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the vehicle and the car in front)
EX
Adds more features such as:
- Sunroof
- Heated side mirrors
- Dual-zone climate control
- Heated front seats
- Power-adjustable driver's seat
- Six-speaker sound system
- Dual rear USB ports
- Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)
Sport
The Sport trim is the most affordable way to get into a hybrid-powered CR-V. It's equipped like the EX, but with:
- Hybrid powertrain with 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (204 hp, 247 lb-ft)
- Roof rails
- Sport appearance package with darkened exterior elements
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter
EX-L
This trim is the best-equipped CR-V with the turbocharged engine. On top of the EX's features, it has:
- Front and rear parking sensors
- Power liftgate
- Leather upholstery
- Power-adjustable front passenger seat
- Driver's seat memory settings
- 9-inch touchscreen
- Wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Wireless smartphone charging pad
- Eight-speaker sound system
- Front and rear parking sensors
- Low-speed automatic braking (automatically applies the brakes to avoid a collision when traveling between 1 and 6 mph)
Sport-L
The Sport-L builds off the regular Sport trim. Think of it as a Sport with the extra niceties from the CR-V EX-L.
Sport Touring
The fully loaded Sport Touring trim has the features of the EX-L, all-wheel drive and the hybrid powertrain as standard. Honda also includes:
- 19-inch gloss black wheels
- Hands-free liftgate
- Ambient cabin lighting
- Integrated navigation system
- Heated steering wheel
- 12-speaker Bose premium audio system

2025 Honda CR-V Sport-L Hybrid 4dr SUV (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid EVT)
I’ve had my 2025 CRV Hybrid Sport-L for a few months and about 1,500 miles. Average MPG is 42.1 with 30% highway driving. We love the leather seats, moonroof, comfortable interior, and how it drives flawlessly. I’m impressed with how many feature are included at this price. I’ve driven Luxus’ and Acura’s of family members and see no difference in quality or comfort. I highly recommend … this vehicle and have no complaints.
Overall great. But Chronic Tech Issues

2025 Honda CR-V Sport-L Hybrid 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid EVT)
This is our third Honda CRV (2018, 2021, 2025). High quality construction, rides great. Just a solid vehicle. No other small SUV is put together this well. One big issue and one small issue. Very frustrated with my 2025 Sport-L entertainment system and Apple CarPlay. The gauge audio display setting (in front of the steering wheel) gets stuck and does not show what’s playing in … CarPlay. C’mon Honda - there are 1.6 billion iPhone users in the world. Please figure this out. We had similar problems in our 2021 CRV. It works fine in our Nissan. This is not an iPhone issue. It’s a Honda issue. The other is just front cabin storage. Cup holders and bin space seems to be reduced. And the little tray in the arm rest was not included (I purchased that separately online). Again, C’mon Honda! The CRV would be the best SUV in the market if the recorded better and they included some low-cost basics.
Improving, almost there...

2025 Honda CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid EVT)
This is my 2nd consecutive CR-V. Coming out of a 2022 EX-L. Love the hybrid powertrain . Went for the sport touring over the sport-L as it's only $1500 more one you add AWD to the sport-L (standard AWD in sport touring). Getting 38.2 mpg in mixed driving. Plenty of space for a small SUV
Other things I like are updated carplay and android auto (both wireless) as well as lane keep assist/ … traffic jam assist systems and Bose audio system (I always disconnect the anc module in Hondas, they are pointless in my opinion). Very quiet and smooth ride. I opted for the grey interior which is 2 tone and glad I did. Looks very sharp. Things I don't like are the front seat shape (side bolsters very high and less comfortable then previous generation) as well an the removal of items making them dealer options that came standard even in the EX-L trim (rear cargo cover, homelink) but all manufacturers heading this route to save/make more money out of every sale. Overall I really like my CR-V even though it's a little on the pricey side. I think you will be hard pressed to find a better small SUV.
2025 CR-V and it’s near death steering system

2025 Honda CR-V EX-L 4dr SUV AWD (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)
Our 5-week old CR-V EX-L wanders dangerously at highway speeds — and crosses painted lane lines — even with the lane-control system engaged.
Also, the smartphone-linked navigation system often drops the needed connection and, much worse, the screen goes blank when you leave internet connected areas, thus leaving you without information when it’s most needed.
Another dangerous fault is … the unsafe headlights that are verifiably inadequate when driving on dark roads in inclement weather.
This is our sixth CR-V. Our previous models have been flawless. Obviously something at Honda has radically changed.
These faults are obviously dangerous — the dealer has ignored us — so we plan to implement the Ohio Lemon law and, hopefully, get our money back.
