Overview
The Lexus GX is a midsize luxury SUV that was fully redesigned for 2024. The luxury off-roader expanded its already wide array of abilities with its recent overhaul, so there's little reason to expect changes for 2025. As a body-on-frame SUV the GX has real off-road chops, but it balances its truck-based design with so many luxury amenities — like a silent but torquey engine — that we can almost forgive the inherent dynamic flaws of its coil-sprung rear axle. It's available in five-, six- and seven-seat configurations.
Edmunds spotlight: A legit off-roader with panache
Lexus took a deliberate and distinct path with the GX's features, sorting them into packages that help buyers determine its character based on their preferences. Expect every 2025 GX to be four-wheel-drive and have a limited-slip center differential. The Overtrail and Overtrail+ trims should come with small (by luxury SUV standards) 18-inch wheels and a locking rear differential. Luxury-oriented trims get features that are, well, more luxury-oriented. There are 22-inch wheels, massaging front seats and a 21-speaker audio system. We will be stunned if any of this changes in a meaningful way for 2025.
Competitors
The only other SUV that embraces the GX's serious-off-roader-with-genuine-luxury-intentions spirit is the Land Rover Defender 110, which has an off-road feature set but no third row. If the Defender isn't your cup of tea, you can consider the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco.
