My Pebble Beach Edition

I chose the "Azure Pearl" (sky blue metallic) 2004 "Pebble Beach Edition" over the SL 500 and XLR. Only 400 will be made. The trunk and "rear seat" space was nominal, at best. No problem. Actually, the so-called rear seat is perfect for my dog and light luggage. I ordered the appropriate Michelin tires rather than the "run-flats". I paid the full MSRP. Luxury abounds. A real head-turner. The Mark Levinson stereo system in without peer. The illuminated blue "Lexus" scuff plates, the buttery ecru leather and black bird's eye maple trim couldn't be sexier. Surveys by J.D. Power rate this car as tops for quality and reliability.

Fabulous car for a 60th birthday gift

This car makes me feel fabulous every time I get into it. If you are having a bad day just put the top down and drive your cares away. I have also had a Lexus GS and traded a new LS on this car. I have been so surprized about the amount of trunk space when the top is up. I have traveled for 3 to 4 weeks and had plenty of room for all my luggage, dog crate and everything else. It also holds tons of groceries. Even with the top down I have enough room for a weeks groceries in the trunk. But, the best thing about the car is the smiles on my face when I approach the car, and slide into the seat. Put the top down and the day turns into sunshine.

Worth it - if you only watch the top go down!

The acceleration is incredible! Watching the top go down is almost as good as sex (almost)!! Even with it being an 11 year old car - the interior is luxurious - black leather with the burled dark walnut is elegant. The exterior is beautiful (not as striking as my 1999 SC400 - but excellent). Everything work like it did the day it rolled off the showroom floor. The only downside is that it isn't exactly top down weather - so I'm impatiently waiting for the weather to turn. Of course - the only drawback is the lack of up-to-date electronics. Can't download my contacts from my phone. It handles "1-touch" dialing - but you have to manually enter your top 10 phone numbers, but the Bluetooth still works well with the phone. The navigation system is okay, but needs updating (need to go on-line and find an upgrade DVD. I updated it with a wireless back-up camera - tough to see behind you without it. I get about 22 mpg and it only had 83000 miles on it when I bought it! UPDATE - July 2018 I now have 119,000 miles on the car and it is still as good as the day I bought it. One small item...I developed a small drain on the battery that I can't trace down. I installed a device that disconnects the battery when the voltage falls below 12V. When you step on the brakes, it reconnects that battery and starts the car. The alternator then recharges the battery. If I drive it every day, it is fine, but I only drive it about once a week and that's when the battery saver device kicks in and starts the car - a real life saver. I was also able to find an up-to-date Navigation DVD to update the onboard navigation system. This car is best when you're able to drop the top and take if for a run on a windy country road. The car still turns heads when you are in a parking lot and drop the top - I still find myself asking my wife to sit in the driver's seat so I can watch the top go up and down. I installed a Sirius-XM radio and can now cruise with my favorite tunes. Still love this 14 year old car!!!!

The steering column is tight. The front end is so heavy the downhill curves going through the Grapevine are not just easily manageable, they seemed meant for a car like this. My 04, V-8 makes uphill grids an easy glide. I prefer the 2004 over the 2002 because it gave Lexus a chance to smooth out the kinks. I prefer the 04 over the newer models because the attention spent on placing a priority on computer technology took away from the single most important detail of any automobile: the engine. Just my opinion. Thx

How to look at the SC430

The "back seats" are for luggage, not people. (actually for insurance). It's basically a 2 seater, with dummy back seats so insurance costs are lower. You can do 4 people, but it's awfully tight...ok for short disdances in a pinch. I've done it, even rode in the back. Other than that, it is a luxuious 300HP go cart. If you like to get racy, fill the tires to near the limit (44 psi?) It has The Best factory Stereo Ever made.. period.

I bought this car when it first came out. Felt like a rock star riding around in it for the first three months. Everyone wanted to see it. They loved seeing how the hard top retracted in 39 seconds. I have no complaints. I still have the run flat tires. It's a slightly bumpy ride but no more than my old Porsche & it gives me more trunk space. It's a sports car that's completely reliable -- a miracle in our time. It's fast enough. Love the sound system and the navigation system. If I get a new car it will probably be a newer version of the SC430

While every auto magazine seems to pan this car for performance, the truth is, this car equals the Mercedes SL 500 on the zero-60 tests, has better build quality and the interior and engine is about as nice and smooth as it gets. I would like to see another 30 h.p. and I like to see Lexus comeout with their own AMG or "M" division so that Lexus can compete with these performance machines.

Far better value than comparable BMW and MB convertibles. Automatic top is techno-marvel. Interior is Rolls quality. Body is beautiful and functional. Bought it one year old with 11k miles on E-bay to save $16k off sticker. Couldn't have spent 48k on better car. Highly recommend if you want ultra-reliable luxury convertible for reasonable price.

Constant compliments from onlookers, snazzy comfort, super audio. Driven daily but usually for short hops-1-10 miles per day...best, most satisfying car I've ever owned...david

In reading the reviews this car had not been crash tested. Unfortunately I was in a 4 car accident on a major 4 lane highway and walked away with only bruises. This car is very well build, all air bags deployed and body structure was able to stand up to t- boning another car, the cement median wall, and then a Rodeo and 4-Runner impact. Car was totaled but I believe I got my money worth in safety features. I will be purcahsing this vechile again ASAP. Loved it!!!!

This car has been my one splurge, and it has been worth it. I love this car, and I love seeing more women driving it. This back seat area is small, but I've gotten my grandchildren back there easily, and my shopping bags. I love the 8 cylinder because it gives it so much pick up. I love the hardtop because I feel safer than I would with a cloth top. There is no better exterior design; the interior design is luxurious; I've had another Lexus, and I love their reliability. It's a man magnet! I never get tired of watching the hardtop going into the trunk with a push of a button. It's a love fest!

I have had just about every car in my 40 odd years of driving here and abroad. This car is easily one of the best, if not the best I have owned (That includes 4 MBZs, 3 Porsches, 2 BMW and a host of others) A car that does it all with comfort and a ride like "rolling on ball-bearings". It is quick, fun to drive and all that stuff.....but in the end......it is a convertable. No longer do I drive my weekly 300 mile trip to LA with wind noise of my previous rag top at the same decibal level as a landing small jet. This car is a treat!

I've had this car for about 2.5 years now, and I still love it. The car has an UNBELIEVABLE interior and is soooo comftorable (unless ur sitting in the "back seats"). This car drives very well, but you can feel the bumps and potholes. Very fast car and extremely fun to drive. "Back seats" are only useful to put your bags or umbrellas. The convertible hardtop aspect is great, especially for me living in New York weather. Once I had a flat tire, and went to the gas station to get it changed, and they couldnt find the spare tire, so we went home and we realized that the tires were RUN FLAT- it was amazing; you could go up to 65 mph with a flat tire.

I love driving my SC 430. I also love the attention I get when I'm driving, anywhere. I also own a Dodge Durango, but when I'm driving it, I don't get nearly the respect from other drivers that I do when I'm driving my SC. It is really a glamourous vehicle that is apparently deceiving. Other drivers will pull next to me, idle at the stop light, and think they'll be able to take off and get in front of me. Ha!! My baby has GET UP!!! Every now and then I get to just blow her out, with the top down; the ride is incredibly smooth and intoxicating.

It was love at first sight when I saw my Egyptian Sand Pearl Lexus. The interior is a rich saddle that looks perfect with the exterior color. I researched this car for a year before I decided to make such a major purchase. When I saw it, the money almost seemed insignificant. The ride is fabulous, the power is great, and luxury abounds. It's my retirement car. 2006, here I come!

My 2004 Absolutely Red SC-430 is a dream to drive. It performs with outstanding agility and finese. As a coupe it is a typical Lexus, quiet, refined and quality build. As a convertible it is an eye-catching drive to drive. Some of the best hours f my day are spent in the driver's seat of this suberb vehicle. With a red exterior and a saddle interior ot a day goes by without several people commenting on it's beauty. The "envy" factor has many eying the machine from near and afar. Its quick and agile off the line and eats the vast majority of vehicles alive with it's outstanding engine and drive train combination.

CAR RIDES VERY ROUGH IN AS LITTLE AS 12000 MILES WITH THE RUN FLAT TIRES. ALSO PRODUCES A DARTING AND JOLTING FELLING FROM VERY SMALL ROAD BUMPS. BEST TO DRIVE A USED ONE WITH ABOUT 10000 MILES ON THE TIRES BEFOR YOU PURCHASE, YOU MAY DECIDE AGINST IT. ALSO THE RUN FLATS ARE ABOUT $500 EACH AND NEED TO BE RELACED AT ABOUT EVERY 20000 MILES IF YOU CAN TAKE THE RIDE THAT LONG.

After owning 3 Mercedes, including a convertible, this car is by far the best car I have had. Performance and handling are superior. Service intake people are poorly trained. They blamed us for not contacting the sale person before we came in to have the snow tires installed. We made the appointment 2 weeks before, dropped- offed the car for 3 hours, then finally got a phone call to be told that the dealership didn't have the tires. The car also has a few loose pieces of plastics, one of them found under the seat. This reflects poor dealer preparation of the car before delivery. The dealership, just as like any others, pushed hard to sell add- ons. Paint already show minor chips on rear bumper.

No other convertibles in the U.S. car market today can rival the quietness (top up or down)& interior quality of this Lexus SC430. And the rumble sound from the exhaust with top down will remind you this is a sports car. By the way, I also own MBZ 500SL with less quality, more noise & higher price. It's my last MBZ.

The car is the ultimate if you want a convertable. I didn't look for a car with big back seats and a huge trunk. It fits me perfectly, as all the instruments are within reach. Wow. What a ride! I LOVE the look of this car. I have gotten so many compliments on it. I've always had BMWs and find this ride to be worse than the BMW. It has more horsepower than my BMWs, but it doesn't drive like a fast car. The interior is luxurious but a little tight. Stereo system rocks! Now the negatives, the seatbelts flap in the back when the top is down. The trunk never opens easily... you have to keep pushing the buttons and then you have to push the trunk down and finally it will click open. You can't put ANYTHING in it when the top is down. On the good side, there is nothing like cruising in the sunshine with the top down and tunes blaring.

I bought my dream car in 2003,a brand new 2004 SC430. Among other disappointments, I have rust problem. The alloy wheel is rusting out. The body also have many bubbles, under is rust. It is so disappointing. I did not expect it from a Lexus.

Fun to Drive. Get all kinds of good looks in this car. The problem is the car has so many little problem that it gets frustrating. 1. The Window does not meet the roof correctly. Should do an MB does and close the window after the door is closed. 2. The run flat tires SUCK. 3. The space between the tire and the rime is bad, My wife has bent the rim runnnig over simple pot holes. 4. The Tan interior does not clean very well. 5. The preformace off the line is not very good. It has to think for a few seconds before it goes. Do get me wrong I like this car alot, but for the price....

Unlike many drivers, I am a 23-year-old single male, but like everyone else I love it! The thing is like a portable amusement park. Also, I live in Georgetown and love getting eyed by all the hot girls-- their eyes light up. Though it's not as good as my baby bulldog, the attention is incredible. But the best moments are when you are all alone, driving fast on the highway.

My wife and just bought the Lexus SC 430. We bit the bullet. Boy are we glad. It is everything we exected. The performance is fantastic. The looks you get every day is incredible. People just stop & look & kids scream "love you car". It is so quiet with the top down. The speaker system is better than my Bose at home. The scary thing is that it is not satisfied at going 70 or 80 miles and hour. We love it!
