What is the Frontier?
A few years ago, the Nissan Frontier was a truck caught in a time warp. It was by far the most affordable midsize truck in the game, but toward the end of the 2005-2021 Frontier's life, it was also the least desirable. With almost comically cheap interior materials, a cramped cabin and lethargic performance, the only reason to buy a Frontier over one of its many impressive rivals was if your local Nissan dealer was willing to give you a smoking deal.
All of that changed in 2022 when the long-awaited third-generation Frontier debuted with rugged new styling, modern tech features and upgraded … everything. The cost of improvement is hard to swallow, as the Frontier is now one of the most expensive midsize pickups (an unfortunate side effect of not offering a wallet-friendly four-cylinder engine), and it's still not best in class. However, the gap between the Frontier and rivals is significantly narrower now, to the point that we wouldn't actively dissuade you from considering one.
