The 2026 Porsche Macan is the German sports car maker's small luxury SUV. It seats five and is available in both gas-powered and all-electric forms. That changes next year, however, as Porsche's current plans are to discontinue the Macan gas models after 2026. But for now, premium compact SUV shoppers can enjoy the Macan's three available gas engines, which include a base turbocharged four-cylinder good for 261 horsepower and a 434-hp twin-turbocharged V6 in the gas-range-topping GTS trim. Just as the Porsche crest on the hood promises, the Macan is quick and nimble for an SUV. But if your top priorities are comfort and utility, you might want to look elsewhere.
Edmunds spotlight: Soon to be electric-only
Porsche says that the Macan line will go all-electric after 2026. The brand introduced the Macan Electric in 2024, which shares a name with its gas counterpart but little else. The Macan Electric is built on a dedicated EV platform and will essentially serve as the second-generation Macan once the gas version takes a bow. Currently, the Macan Electric is available in four trim levels and offers up to 308 miles of driving range and as much as 576 horsepower, depending on configuration.
Competitors to consider
Frequent updates over its long life span have kept the gas-powered Macan competitive, but it is still an 11-year-old design. Rivals such as the Audi SQ5 Sportback and Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe will feel newer and nearly as sporty. The Macan Electric has its own set of competitors in the premium electric SUV category, including the Audi Q6 E-tron, the higher specifications of the Tesla Model Y, and the upcoming Polestar 4 and BMW iX3.
