2025 Ram 3500 Mega Cab Trims Comparison

Trim level differences

The 2025 Ram 3500 is a heavy-duty pickup available in three body styles: regular cab, crew cab and Mega Cab (a unique larger crew cab with reclining rear seats). An 8-foot bed is standard with the regular cab and available with the crew cab. A 6-foot-4-inch bed is standard on the crew cab and mandatory with the Mega Cab. Note that two of the 3500's main differences are its extra-robust leaf-spring rear suspension — the 1500 and 2500 have coil springs at the rear, which yield better ride comfort and handling at the expense of capability — and the availability of a double-wheel rear axle that must be selected to achieve the most extreme towing and payload capabilities.

The crew cab can be had in every trim level: Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited Longhorn and Limited. The regular cab is Tradesman and Big Horn only, while the Mega Cab is Laramie, Limited Longhorn and Limited only.

All come standard with a gasoline 6.4-liter V8 good for 405 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard. The only diesel engine choice is a 6.7-liter turbodiesel inline-six producing 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. It has a different eight-speed automatic.

Tradesman
This is what you buy for a business with extreme capability needs. There are few frills, but standard equipment does include:

  • 17-inch steel wheels
  • Manual mirrors
  • Manual (regular cab) and power windows (crew cab)
  • Integrated trailer brake controller
  • 40/20/40-split front bench seat (no height adjustment)
  • Vinyl upholstery
  • Tilt-only steering wheel
  • 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration

A pair of driver assistance systems are also included:

  • Forward collision warning with automatic braking (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Adaptive cruise control (adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the vehicle and the car in front)

Big Horn
The Big Horn has chrome trim and other material/style upgrades that make it look less like a no-frills work truck for business use. It also gets key equipment upgrades:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Power mirrors and windows (regular cab)
  • Heated, power-folding and power-adjustable mirrors
  • Rear window defroster
  • Cloth upholstery
  • Interior carpet
  • Parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)

Laramie
The Laramie gets some welcome feature upgrades that include:

  • Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)
  • Keyless entry
  • Dampened tailgate
  • Power-telescoping mirrors
  • Power-sliding rear window
  • 115-volt electrical outlet in the bed
  • Digital instrument panel
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Heated, power-adjustable front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Leather upholstery
  • Folding rear seat
  • Two in-cabin 115-volt electrical outlets
  • 12-inch touchscreen
  • Navigation system
  • Nine-speaker Alpine sound system

Limited and Limited Longhorn
The two Limited trims are priced and equipped equally, but they differ in terms of styling. Basically, the Longhorn has Western-inspired interior details, including badging, wood trim and special Filigree leather. They're both only available with front bucket seats, a full center console and therefore five-passenger seating. They also add:

  • 20-inch wheels
  • Auto-dimming exterior mirrors
  • Side steps
  • Drop-down bed step
  • RamBox cargo management (not available with 8-foot bed or fifth-wheel towing)
  • Automatic wipers
  • Power-adjustable pedals
  • Ventilated front bucket seats
  • Heated second-row seats
  • Upgraded interior materials
  • 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • 17-speaker Harman Kardon sound system
  • Front passenger display
  • Two wireless charging pads

Available on all but the Tradesman are a number of driver assist features bundled into packages. (Package names and other included content depend on the trim.) These include:

  • Blind-spot intervention (automatically steers the car back into its lane if you try to change lanes while a car is in the vehicle's blind spot)
  • Driver attention warning (issues an alert if sensors determine you are becoming fatigued)
  • Adaptive steering system (increases assistance at low speeds, decreases assistance to improve precision at higher speeds)
  • 360-degree camera system (gives you a top-down view of the Ram 3500 and its surroundings in tight parking situations)

Some of the features found on the more expensive trim levels can be added as optional equipment on the less expensive ones. A variety of trailering aids are also available, most notably the Trailer Reverse Guidance system that lets you steer the truck and trailer using a knob when reversing. It takes the mental gymnastics out of reversing with a trailer. If you're getting a 3500 for towing purposes (which almost seems like a given), we'd highly recommend it even if you're a towing vet.

Which 3500 trim does Edmunds recommend?

Picking the best Ram 3500 depends a lot on what you're going to use it for. Setting aside commercial use, we think most buyers will be quite happy with the Laramie trim. It's not the fanciest, but you can outfit it with most of the Limited's extras and can avoid its ride-worsening 20-inch wheels and gimmicky front passenger display. Getting the optional diesel engine is also a smart move if you're going to be towing heavy trailers.
