Good little machine
I traded in my VW Jetta sedan a month ago for the Impreza hatchback. As the salesperson informed me during the "I'm still looking" phase, people buy Subarus for the "waist down" performance, as they lack many of the luxuries that other car makers add as perks. Having said that, the leather is good quality, the car handles very well (can't wait to get it in the snow!), and it's got a decent backseat and storage for the daily haul. Bluetooth and USB are decent, but stereo very generic. Controls are simple. Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is interesting...takes some getting used to. One month in, and I'm a happy customer!
You get what you pay for.
Needs more horsepower to drag the AWD system around. Stereo system was so bad I pulled it out after 2 weeks of ownership. Design and quality of the car is above and beyond what I expected in this price range. I have had ZERO problems with my Impreza, the last 4 Toyotas I bought new all had to go back to the dealer for minor problems or recalls, not the little Subaru. Comfortable for long drives and fun on short ones.

157000 miles and drove like new until crash
I bought 2013 Impreza hatchback limited in December 2012. Spending the extra money for the hatch and the limited was well worth it. Issues were Tranny fix at 130000 for $1500, recall for valve spring they did for free eventhough over 100000 miles, replaced front struts, replace rear ball joints, then proactive at 150000 replaced serpentine belt. I think by waiting till the end of selling season most issues were taken care of. Heard horror stories of Subys before 2013 regarding overhead cam and oil issues. If your check engine light goes on with multiple warning lights it is an easy fix-brake switch replacement. If trouble starting after a few seconds, stop and do it again. Something about the computer. Otherwise, as I said, drives like day one. Only complaint is a little noisy which the newer models are suppose to be better then again it isn't my wife's Benz. Change oil and have a good mechanic perform services and save 100-200 a month for issues. I laugh at my excise tax and insurance cost with no car payments. After I wrote this I was broadsided at 41 mph while I was at 5 mph. Car side airbags deployed. I was fine and if I had a passenger-he would be fine. Immediately bought a 2022 new Impreza Limited. What improvements:quieter, eyesight, heat seat controls better location and on and on- UPDATE It has been 1 and 1/2 years later and really impress with the new Sub updates. Not noisy, better handling, more comfortable seats, better electronics and placements still great.
