Why did the Chevy Bolt EV win?

For the money, the Bolt EV can't be beat. It has possibly the best pricing proposition on the market, EV or not. The Bolt EV also is fun to drive thanks to tight handling and zippy acceleration. Its small footprint is convenient and maneuverable, yet it's roomier inside than it looks. Plus, the Bolt EV offers a solid amount of range on a full charge — 278 miles in the Edmunds EV Range Test.

The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is a visual stunner. Porsche nailed the styling and made a droolworthy EV that captures the carmaker's design language but also looks futuristic. It offers a harmonious combination of EV traits — zero tailpipe emissions, instant propulsion, quiet — to go along with the performance, refinement and style expected from the Porsche brand. Plus, the Cross Turismo is just as exciting and fun to drive as the regular Taycan sedan but is more practical thanks to its wagon-like body style.

What stood out?

The Taycan's cabin feels equal parts sporty and $100K luxury. Yet it is also decently practical because of the rear cargo hatch.

An influx of new electric vehicles have hit the market, but Tesla’s entry-level Model 3 is still a benchmark. This is an impressively easy and comfortable sedan to drive every day. Its tech-focused design and pleasing acceleration and handling also remain core to this sedan's appeal. The Model 3 also provides excellent range, especially with the Long Range trim.

What stood out?

Tesla's public Supercharger network is a major convenience and is miles ahead of the competition in terms of ease of usability and consistency.
