Edmunds Top Rated SUV 2024

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid

A well-earned repeat win for the Sportage Hybrid
January 24th, 2024

Why did the Kia Sportage Hybrid win?

The Kia Sportage Hybrid offers a stellar blend of utility, efficiency and comfort, and it's just as roomy and functional as the gas-only model. It doesn't ask you to change the way you live, and honestly, most of the time you'd never know it was a hybrid — until it's time to fill up at the gas pump, of course. Plus, there's a long list of driver assistance features, making the Sportage Hybrid an excellent value.

The Kia Sportage Hybrid is our Edmunds Top Rated SUV for the second year in a row. Nothing in the past year has stepped forward to challenge the Kia's combination of space, comfort, quality and exceptional value. It remains an excellent choice for families.

"With excellent utility, technology and efficiency, the Sportage Hybrid is a leap ahead of its gas counterpart and the rest of the competitive SUV field as well. It also offers something that's becoming rarer in today's automotive landscape: exceptional value." — Brian Wong, senior editor

What stood out?

There are no special tricks needed to eke out great fuel economy; the Sportage makes the most of hybrid technology to combine strong acceleration with impressive fuel economy, while the abundance of tech contributes to the premium vibe. The Sportage Hybrid also delivers a comfortable ride and offers plenty of space for people and cargo. Added bonus: The Hybrid is actually quicker and more fun to drive than the standard Sportage. It looks absolutely killer, too.

FINALIST

2024 Kia Telluride

Why is the Kia Telluride a finalist?

The Telluride is a superlative SUV; it gets just about everything right. The Telluride is super spacious, and even adults will find the third row usable. When you aren't hauling passengers, the Telluride makes it easy to turn the seating area into a cavernous cargo hold. The Telluride is also jam-packed with driver assistance features that make longer trips a breeze. Wrap it all in an attractive package and price it competitively, and it's no wonder the Telluride remains a hit.

What stood out?

The things we like most about the Telluride are its feature-rich interior and excellent bang for the buck. No matter which Telluride trim level you pick, you're getting a solid value — and that's before you consider Kia's industry-leading 10-year/100,000-mile warranty.

FINALIST

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS

Why is the GLS a finalist?

In terms of luxury SUVs, it's hard to beat the Mercedes-Benz GLS. It's like riding on a cloud, thanks to its smooth dynamics, serene interior, and abundance of creature comforts and helpful driving aids. Throw a handful of powerful engines into the mix — including a 603-horsepower V8 — and the GLS really hustles. But it never loses that luxury edge. Premium SUVs don't get much better than this.

What stood out?

The GLS stands out with its bank-vault-like build quality, wide array of powerful engine choices, and class-leading levels of fancy amenities.
