This is my first new car in ten years and compared to what was available in it's class back then this car represents an outstanding value for under $20k. All of my Toyotas outlast any other make of car I've had, which has brought me back to Toyota for the Corolla. My preference leans toward great mileage and a taught suspension and the Corolla Eco does not disappoint. I don't need power since most folks just mosey along in heavy traffic here. What I'm particularly impressed with is the tight and predictable handling of this little car. I've driven a lot of recent model cars, such as the Mazda 3 and 5, Honda Accord, etc and I think the Corolla Eco is the best deal out there. My one complaint is I'm a tall guy and the seat travel isn't quite enough for me. Just 1 inch more would be a huge plus for me. But for short trips I'm not fussing. This car is a pleasure to own and drive. I keep my cars for 10-15 yrs so I'm a very picky buyer. 1yr update: Still very impressed. Good car.

New to the Corolla Line

For my age, in the lower 60s, this is a nice conservative looking car. I'm new to the Corolla line and for years I've admired the new look. I bought one. I like everything about this car except for the stock tires. TireRack rated these low rolling resistance stock tires as one of the lowest in ride quality and it feels like it, i.e. some road noise. However when these tires wear out, I'm looking to buy some premium low rolling resistance tires that will make everything about this car top notch. As a scientist, I'm just looking to go from point A to point B with affordability, reliability and best fuel economy in mind.

We purchased this car for our daughter who is a senior in high school and getting ready to go to college in the fall of 2016. She hasn't had it very long but so far so good except it's so quiet and smooth that she doesn't realize she's speeding sometimes!! Other than that we'll definitely know after she runs up and down the highway a few times.

Reading lots of reviews on this model, the main 2 disappointments have been acceleration and fuel economy (not matching stats). This car is not designed to accelerate quickly! In fact, it has specific tech, distinct from all other Corolla models, for higher fuel economy *at a 'cost' to acceleration*. Thus, if you try to compensate for its lack of power, you will be punished with lower fuel economy that advertised. Since advertised fuel economy testing is standardized, there is no cheating! However, Corolla, like other CVT fuel efficient cars, can actually outperform the published numbers (driving with a 'light' foot) or under-perform when driving with a heavy foot. Sorry speedy... Having said that, it is not a slow car! 0-60 data varies from 8.9 to 9.5, outperforming many cars in this price range (and higher) with lower fuel economy. Other measures are surprisingly positive as well, including handling (though the steering is not awesome like a Honda) and the ride quality. However, the road nice picked up by tires (not wind) makes the nice ride a bit less appreciable. Therefore, when getting tires I highly recommend tires rated for quiet, as well as to avoid over-inflating, maybe best to slightly under-inflate. OK, this may cost you a touch on MPG... I sold the stock tires (one year old) to a private party and bought a 'compromise tire': a Yokohama Avid Ascent (big step up from stock tires) rated highly for low rolling resistance, quiet ride and longevity. I gave up excellent handling (still "very good") as well as snow performance (unnecessary for me). They perform great in rain for me, even though some ratings were only "good". Since I got this car 1 year old, I essentially replaced the tires immediately after experiencing the dismal performance of the originals. Thus the price for the car represents a 1 year old Certified Pre-owned from Toyota, with all those benefits! ADDED 2 YEARS LATER: I never stopped loved this car, up until I traded it in for a 2020 Kia Soul! I got tired of the low seating position, the marginally comfy front seat, and the ducking when getting in and out of the car. However I loved the various road trips I took (despite the seat, it is such an easy and comfy car to drive!) and the amazing gas mileage when not exceeding 65 mph. Driving country roads 55-65 mph yields crazy high fuel economy, on one trip 46mpg. ADDITION 3 YEARS LATER: A year ago I got fed up trying adapt my seat for comfort. The Corolla has a long history of a marginally confortable seat (depends upon body type) and my efforts were too much work. And, as I like my seat raised high, I was often hitting my head when getting out. So I went to a "box" that, after a year, is my favorite car ever, the 2020 Kia Soul.
