Chirp goes the third gen
When you buy a 2016/2017 tacoma you have about a 50/50 shot that your high pressure fuel pump will start making a loud chirping sound when ever your at idle. GOOD luck trying to get this fixed after many calls to the dealer and toyota they have now classified it as a "characteristic" of the Tacoma so that they will not have to repair this issue. I would strongly urge anyone looking at these trucks to look else where for a mid size or if you love toyota and need a truck look into a Tundra instead. I am very disappointed in toyota I have been a fan for many years most of family drives Toyotas but this will no longer be the case since they are not even willing to try to fix a problem like this.

2016 Tacoma SR5 4 Cylinder ROCKS!
I bought my 2016 Tacoma in 2019 with 79500 miles on it. In my first 3 weeks I have driven 3000 miles and it has been amazing! Sure the engine is noisy due to the loud direct injection system but the truck is a powerhouse. She holds steady at 85 mph on the highway and long trips are a breeze. I have even slept in the truck and it is quite comfy reclined in the passengers seat listening to tunes while I snooze. I use my truck for work 9 hours a day as an automotive specialist where she fights Miami traffic and idles incessantly. Thus far I have logged 200 plus hours of work in my truck who is named Black Beauty 2 and she is rock solid! I am writing this review after a 650 mile road trip and I feel great. The truck is comfortable and efficient with an average of 21mpg. The 4 cylinder with automatic transmission is just right for my needs. Strong enough yet conservative on gas. The seats are accommodating. The sound system is excellent with SiriusXM. The truck feels like a military vehicle handling bumps, storms and evasive maneuvers with ease. Forget the whiners the 2016 Tacoma is in a class by itself. These trucks will last for over 200,000 miles with basic maintenance. Do yourself a favor and get one. The body design is excellent with beautiful lines, the interior is very roomy, and the controls are intuitive. Overall I rate my 2026 Tacoma with 5/5 stars!! I am an experienced automotive tech trained by Ford/ Shelby, Toyota and Subaru so I know a quality vehicle when I drive one. The 2016 Tacoma is fantastic. I noticed an increase in performance by using 93 octane gas and Lucas fuel treatment. The engine seems to like this combo. Forget the complainers. The 2016 Tacomas kick ass! Oh and use the transmission to increase power by selecting lower gears as needed, The ECT button is awesome! The 2016 Tacoma is a gem!

Nice truck, but some standard equipment is missing
Just purchased my 2016 Tacoma SR. Overall, I like the truck, but Toyota's SR is lacking some standard accessories that virtually every other car comes with. The most important is keyless entry. Yes, thats right, no key fob you need to manually unlock the door. This is absolutely crazy, the dealership even told me it's not an option yet for the 2016 Tacoma SR's. They hinted keyless should be available for it in a few months for an extra $400. Also there is no homelink, so be prepared to find your garage door opener that you haven't needed since the 90's. Also, there are no automatic head lights, must turn them on/off. Overall, I do like the truck, I am just still floored about the lack of keyless entry.

Last Toyota I will ever buy
I have been a lifelong Toyota customer until now. This is the 6th Toyota I have owned or leased and it's the worst experience I have had with one. Engine sounds like it's 20 years old. Shifts hard and lurches at lower speeds mostly during acceleration. I have had it at the dealer no less than 6 times. Rode with a tech that agreed it's not right. All the did was reflash the ECU. There have been 2 TSBs they performed and problem persists. I called Toyota customer care and all they did was send me back to the dealer. I should probably go lemon law route but who has the time to deal with it. Really pisses me off every time I get in it.
