2002 Acura RSX
It's now nearly 2.5 years of owning this car, a car I intended to drive for maybe a year or so then move on to the next but I still thoroughly enjoy zipping around in it, reliability still right on. Fantastic car. Also I live downtown in a big city, I don't want a large car, in North America it's a challenge to find fun + small, wish Acura had not morphed big as most car companies do … (yes there are small German autos but having had one disastrous and too many friends experiencing same I'm not going there). My original review follows.
A year ago I sold my Subaru, rather than buying another (I do like them) I decided the next several cars would be those I've always admired, wish I'd driven, even if it's just for a year or two til the next—the RSX is one of those.
Started my search for a relatively low mileage, no mods (challenge), rust-free (challenge) car and eventually found just that. An '02 Premium (in Canada we had three models), not S unfortunately, leather, auto, fairly low mileage, zero mods, no rust.
I love this car. Super comfortable, good lateral bolstering, love the cockpit style dash both look and functionality, I'm really impressed with the interior fit and finish, this '02 actually tighter and feels a little more quality than my last Subaru 8yrs newer.
Excellent, crisp handling, ride is quite firm but I like that, tight/no rattling, and it's fast (fast enough, I live in a big city with horrible traffic, speed most often doesn't come into play but it is zippy). And! good on gas, much better, of course, than a bigger, heavier Subaru. I love a hatchback, seats down and this delivers a great amount of storage; if you're sitting in the back seat that's a whole different story, awfully tight back there and no leg room, like nearly none, but I usually drive alone.
In terms of options the car is rather vintage now so no bluetooth, no touch screen, no outside temp etc but I like a car to be just that—I LOVE to drive, I live on a screen all day every day, don't want to be overly connected in my car. Heated leather, heated mirrors, leather wrapped wheel, sunroof are my only interior must haves (power windows/locks/remote of course). I will add the HVAC is strong, again, Canada, good heat is appreciated. 4 disc/anti-lock, front/side airbags and good crash ratings are all the safeties I need.
It's great fun to drive, well made, I'm constantly amazed that this 18 yr old car is so solid, 1+years of ownership and not a problem, everything works, keeping for another year then...
