2018 Audi S7
I've only had this C7.5 PRM+ S7 for few months... but I can say whole-heartedly: I love this vehicle! That said, she isn't for everyone.
PRO's:
- adjustable air suspension
- V8T is a mean engine, even at the base 450HP (no tuning, not RS7)
- despite her hefty weight (which I like), she stops impressively
- hwy gas mileage tops at around 24-25 mpg. But that's better than I was … expecting
- the sound system - even in the premium trim - is "concert level entertainment"
- the MMI can be updated for maps that look modern, and Apple CarPlay (plugin + bluetooth) for a modern UI on the display (thank you! because the factory original issue in 2018 was extremely sad/basic and looks very dated)
- that trunk storage space is amazing!
- get the front and rear dash cam (no, not the parking assist cam)
CONS
- Gas Consumption: driving around town (start/stop) or in traffic... borders on negligent (lol). 10-15mpg? the auto-shutoff helps conserve, but the hesitation to restart is annoying and many may not be comfortable with it (safety?)
- Getting In & Out: I'm 6'2", and getting in requires me to tuck my head in... otherwise hit my head everytime
- The Backseat: is for groceries, or children. not adults - I can't even get in it. A small adult - maybe? the 2019+ design adjusts for both hitting your head getting in, and hitting your head on the ceiling in the backseat. But I also don't think the C8 is as sexy.
- Dated Infotainment: the infotainment and dial design is rather stupid/lacks the real luxe polish that 2019+ has. cheesy/dated appearance for a lack of a better description, especially if you check out 2019-2023 A7/S7's. too many buttons, and too many ways to interact with the display. The design isn't intuitive, and navigating the many settings is cumbersome. If I could yank out the dash and swap in a 2019+, I would.
- T Issues: the turbochargers should get replaced every 75K miles. don't risk them being starved out with the oil clog issue
- Service Costs Are Not For the Faint of Heart: pre-buy your service package (reduced from the $1600 every 10K miles). I bought the only 18' S7 CPO in the country at the time, and picked up an extended 7-yr bumper-to-bumper... which still doesn't cover parts that are expected to wear (engine/trans mounts, brake systems, etc). Unless you have an affordable non-Audi shop, or you're under a service warranty, the expenses will pile. Even in normal care. Be ready. I had a BMW 330CI with staggered tires before this vehicle... so I was used to buying pricy tire sets. If you're not, adjust. And don't buy cheap tires for these even if the car is 5 yrs old. Nope. If you can afford summer/winter sets... and live in an area where that's relevant, go for it!
- Trans Shifting - if you drive aggressive, the shifting is going to annoy you. So unless you're under a CPO warranty, pursue the most reliable software tuning for the trans shifting (nevermind the HP boosts). Smoothes out the less than perfect shifting (not persistent - more stop/start felt).
So... with all that said, I've never loved a vehicle more. I own a Daytona Gray. Wish I could've found a CPO low miles Sepang Blue. No such luck. And now... CPO won't be an option (aging out). Go drive a number of these vehicles if you're considering... and then go drive the new (2022/23) modern sibling. I still love this 18'.
