I had been passively looking for a vehicle as my existing 2009 vehicle was having some issues , but not really wanting to get into a car payment or the current vehicle costs - new or used. I happened to go into my local Chevy dealer with a neighbor, and she pointed out the new Trax. I thought maybe I would go back later in the day and test drive one, but didn’t. The next day the dealer … reached out - he had just received 2 Activ Trax. I test drove an LT as the Activ had barely been offloaded. I’m not a car guru, not a mechanic, but I loved the styling, the interior, the features, the way it drove. I especially liked the size - lots of legroom in the back, higher than a sedan, nice size trunk and the 11” panel. (Not to mention the cool yellow accents - the interior accent depends on the trim (LS 1RS LT 2RS or Activ).
It is really quiet, the backup camera has really clear picture and the sound when using the phone or other audio is good. It has a cool grill, and leather-like seats (I think only the 2RS and Activ have this). Also on these 2 trims you have the digital gauges.
This model also has the power driver seat and keyless entry.
But the best thing was the price. Part of my job last year was helping new employees in the company I was working for buy a car. It was tough to find anything post Covid, choices were limited and dealers were getting $$$ over MSRP/ NADA. And even the compact, base model SUV’s (which were tiny and had few features), had an out the door price (incl. Tax, tag and title) of over $30k. This was just over $25k out the door.. and the Activ and 2RS are about same price and similar extras.
I wish it had an automatic lift gate on the trunk (and it doesn’t have one on the key fob … and I haven’t seen one in the vehicle) so it’s pretty manual. I also wish it came with wireless charging, but it does have a USB and USB C port, and of course Apple Play / Android Auto (with the Activ and 2 RS having a more updated interface). The safety ratings and Consumer reports ratings don’t seem to have come out yet. And oh !! It’s a 2024 model.. just launched in May 2023. There never was a 2023 model, and I never would have bought the previous Trax models.
While you have remote (phone app) access for 3 years included (start, stop, locate, mileage, gas level etc) for 3 years, it only comes with 1 month of wifi and 1 month of Sirius and 1 month of ONSTAR … be sure to ask whomever you speak to when connecting all those for any special offers, or you are looking at about $50/month for services.
The Chevy app is basic but ok. Weirdly it shows all my tires at 46, but it shows recommended PSI to be 34 Front / 34 rear.
I wasn’t nickled and dimed by the dealer, I had done a lot of research on the price, he managed to get me some financing with both GM and Ally (we went with Ally who beat the rate by 1%), and he is a local dealer that has a great service dept. It is shows that the first service is due at 7500 (I currently have all of 157 miles on the car!)
The base LS starts around $21500 … so if you don’t need all the fancy extras … it’s still a great car.
I got the jet black, there are some funky and cool other exterior colors including Cayenne and a weird metallic yellow which actually grows on you if you look at it enough.
MPG so far is 31.3 MPG and my insurance (on a 2 car policy with mediocre credit) is $125 for the Trax.
The only negative I have seen on most of the test drives and major reviews is that there is no AWD. I don’t need it or miss it and so far, so good. Love my new (yet to be named) Trax Activ
