2018 FIAT 124 Spider
The car needs to be judged in the context of what it is. It’s supposed to be a light sports car. If you want a truck or a limo, it isn’t going to work for you. I have the no-option, manual transmission, basic Classica. As a sports car, it works. Headlights, wipers, shifting, HVAC, all good. The convertible top is stellar. The Fiat turbo engine is surprisingly likable. It has great torque … at low RPMs and tops out at around 6500 and so it runs like a classic engine instead of a stressed-out peaky hi-rev motor. Much more relaxed and drivable in real world conditions but still more than quick. Utterly stable and changes direction without feeling twitchy. It didn’t cost much, Mazda reliability, and 30 mpg. Elegant on winding roads when Camaros and Mustangs feel bulky. Wouldn’t trade it for a Boxster.
